Bree, my “quack” opinion of chiropractors goes back to before I ever went to one. Now I would never give up my chiropractor. It sounds like Catherine had ridiculous experiences, but it doesn’t have to be like that. I’ve been to ridiculous MDs too but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t go to the doctor’s. You would need to ask around in your area and get a recommendation for a good one.

You do need to be your own advocate. With my “recent” shoulder injury once I remembered slipping on the floor, I went to the chiropractor and he put two ribs and my shoulder back in place. They were all dislocated. I immediately had some relief. Then my personal trainer is a physical therapist. He had me avoiding stressing it. It didn’t heal enough to suit me so I went to my MD who gave me a shot of cortisone and that definitely helped the residual inflamation in my rotator cuff. Eventually the physical therapist (as my trainer not as PT) added range of motion exercises that moved but didn’t stress the shoulder. And two weeks ago he added back “baby” weights and other exercises that put controlled and limited stress on the shoulder. Since that didn’t hurt afterwards, he’ll up it all next week.

The chiro deals with the bones and muscles; the pt deals with the muscles; and the MD has the drugs. Sometimes you need all of them. The problem with current medicine is that the different specialists don’t talk to one another. . . . Oh and I’ve added massage to the mix at times.

I do know that an orthopedic surgeon told me in 1974 that I would eventually need a knee replacement. In 1988 I had surgery on that knee for a torn miniscus and wear and tear. In the late 1990s I went to the chiropractor for other issues but he put my hip where it belonged and relieved most of the pressure on my knee. If that had been done in 1974, I probably would never have needed knee surgery and no one is expecting at this time that I will ever need a knee replacement!

So don’t give up and do keep trying to find out what is wrong with your knee.

Thanks y’all! I do believe in chiropractors, though I’ve never been to one. My mom had been having trouble and I talked her into going, now its a monthly thing and she gets the massage too. She loves it. I really don’t know why I’ve never been to one, I have chronic neck pain from a nursing home injury (I was a certified nurse aid for years and was hit hard in the back of the neck and head by an upset and confused resident), and know that a chiro would help immensely with that. Though I don’t get headaches from it, it gets tense easily.

When I go back to the doc in 2 weeks, if he can’t give me an answer, I’ll head to the chiro. I’ll have to find out if I need a referral, or if my insurance will cover it. There’s a sports therapy place that just opened up in town too, I’ll have this healed or at least figured out in time for the WWH. Not giving up on that dream. Even if I can only do the 5k, I’m not going down without a fight.

Bree, I used to get tension headaches all the time (I know you said you don’t get them) and now they are extremely rare for me. In fact, if I feel like one is coming, I head to the chiropractor. I could be several years since I’ve really had one.

Oops, guess I’ve been forgetting to post my workouts. I’ve been reading what everyone else is doing and have to go do something before I hit my own thread!

Lets see, Thursday was YBB Latin Flavor, Friday was the beginning of a 12 week course on Kundalini yoga. Saturday was a rest day.

Mouse is sick, Hubby’s in Memphis, Skeeter’s at a friends, and we have no food in the house. OK, there’s fresh veg, but nothing to go with it. So later I’ll be shopping with a sick one, and one who’s tired from a sleepover. Oh, and she forgot her ADHD meds.

But Jenn will come over, we’ll lock the fussy twins in their rooms and get some power yoga done.

Mouse is crying for me, I’ll post more later.

Yep, I thought it was way cute and just couldn’t resist. Here’s a bigger view.

And today was made a rest day. Aunt Flo came a sucker punched me right in the gut.

But, I ordered the Power 90 set from beachbody.com today! I really can’t wait to start it, should get here by the end of the week.

Thanks, Joan. I like it, there are more to come. Why just delete such a good e-mail?

Yesterday Jenn and I did Inhale yoga. Felt really good!

Hubby bought the new Mario Cart for the Wii, way addictive. I recommend to anyone, it is so fun!!!

What is a Mario Cart?

How’s the knees today?

http://www.mariokart.com/wii/launch/ Only the most fun game in the planet. If you follow the link, don’t click “skip” there’s a cool video preview.

Knees are feeling much better. I can sit cross legged again. Not sure what set them off so bad last time, but I won’t be doing anything to upset them again until the doc clears it.

So far today no intentional exercise, but I did watch DB for 3 hours after school today. We went to the park, played outside, and he kept me on my toes. I feel exhausted. Hoping to get a bit of yoga in, but that’s yet to be determined.

Here’s a bigger pic of the new avatar.

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

To tri is to risk failure, not to tri is to guarantee it!
