Can what you wear change what you eat?

The other day I was wearing a ribbed mock turtleneck, long denim skirt and had my hair pulled up. I looked very strict school teacher, and it had some really odd affects. I stood straighter, and when it came time to eat, I chose better, ate slower and more deliberately, and ate less.

Has anyone else noticed a change in what or how you eat based on what you wear?

Hi Bree,

I’m not sure that clothing, per se, affects what I eat (unless it’s really tight clothing across my stomach!  *grin*), but I think the attitude I have in my clothes does.  In other words, if I’m dressed like a slob, I may eat like one also.  If I’m dressed really fancy, I may be a bit more aware about what’s going into my body.  I’m already aware of my body (since I don’t wear fancy clothes that much), so the awareness just stretches a bit further.

On the other hand, what I’m wearing *definitely* affects the type of movement I do!  (Would you take long walks in heels?  I don’t think so!)

Cheers,
Julie

Yes, I have noticed it and it makes a big difference for me. I am a stay-at-home mom and I have fallen into the very bad habit of no makeup and sweats until the kids take their afternoon nap. I found myself having a much better day when I put on my jeans and makeup. I feel more pulled together and motivated. If I feel like I look pretty good in what I am wearing I like that feeling and I eat better to keep it that way.—Sara

Maybe we should try to keep ourselves dressed nicely and find out how much weight we can lose. When I wear my really comfy clothes, I know I lounge around, eat whatever, and don’t want to workout. Last year for Lent I gave up being frumpy, it was an amazing difference. Maybe I should add that element to my next 100 days challenge. Hmmm…
