My name is Cathey and I’ve been listening to Scott on and off since January 2007, watching the forums and have finally gotten the nerve to stick my toe in the water. For the last year my work out pattern is to get moving at 5:30am...seems to work well once I get the cobwebs out. I also have somewhat of a high stress job so sometimes I find myself bypassing my workout and spending the morning hours dealing with issues, I know that I feel better when I work out...but, sometimes it just happens. Then a week will go by...I’m sure you get the drift. smile Need some help!

Hi Chaigh,

Welcome to MTM-land!  Congrats on finally taking the “plunge” into the forums!

Sometimes the hardest part is the starting.  Can you find just 5 or 10 minutes a day to work out?  If you can, ink them (not just pencil) into your schedule, and start with that.  If you commit to just a little at a time, I bet you’ll find that it grows really fast!

Please poke around the forums.  You’ll find some of the nicest people here that you’ll ever meet.

Once again, welcome!
Julie

Welcome, Cathey! What kind of incentive could you give yourself to do the workout instead of work?

And what are your goals?

Hi Cathey, welcome to the forum.

I have a question, the “issues” you deal with in the morning for work, is it time you are “giving” to your job?

Is it hard for you to give time to yourself?  Remember, you are an important too.

Once again, welcome to the forum.

Wow...thanks to all for such a warm welcome. You all are making great points. My ultimate goal is to find balance. Balance between home life, work and MYSELF. Typically its me that takes a back seat to what are seen as more important needs...from my job to my family. I believe that if I find the balance, all will be the better for it. I’ve made a commitment to myself to stop working from home and once I leave the office I’ve truely LEFT the office. Often when I work at night, after the kids go to bed...my brain is full of work related activities, then when I wake in the morning....work is still on my mind. So..my plan of attack is no more working at night, and give more time to myself, including the mornings for working out. In the long run, I believe this will help me to be a better person in all areas. Now....to stick with it.!

I know you can do it, and you know you can, too. Have you done the “downloading your brain” trick Scott’s talked about? My job is easy to leave at work (preschool aid, I take home lots of love and hugs, and viruses, but I digress). Sometimes a solutions seems to present itself to me while I’m working out. I don’t know if any of this helps, but you you could use workout time as brainstorming time if you feel the need for the extra work time. Just have a recorder handy for all the brilliance that will pour out of you along with the sweat!
