Hopelessly addicted to Zumba!

Hi all,

I’ve been off the forum for a while.  I’m in Grad school so classwork sucks away my computer time.  I wanted to send an email just to say hello and to own up to something:

“My name is Sandi and I’m addicted to Zumba!” (It’s the first step to getting help, right?) wink

Seriously, have any of you tried it?  It’s a mix of different Latin dances and music. It kicks my butt every time I do it.  I literally have sweat dripping off of me, something I’ve never experienced before.  And I LOVE it!  I find myself smiling through the hour and looking forward to more.  I do it only twice a week because the classes at my gym conflict with my schedule.  I’d do more if I could.  LSB workouts fill in for the rest of the week.

I am not very coordinated so aerobics classes scare me.  I’m self-conscious because I’m always moving in the wrong direction somehow. But I love to dance at clubs and weddings. I think it’s because no one is telling me the way to move.  Just my own internal rhythym.  And I’m told I’m quite good. (For a 48 year old!) Anyway, I love Afro-Latin music so I thought I would try it once.  Now I’m hooked.  The instructor said it burns 500 to 700 calories in an hour and I believe it.

I figure with a crazy schedule like mine I need to have fun when I’m working out.  Where else can I fit it in?  I never thought these words would come out of my mouth- “I love spending time working out!”

Hello from another graduate student!  Glad to see you’re addicted to something that sounds like a lot of fun :D

Hi Sandi,

It’s great to have you on-board!  I bet that Latin dance is amazing!  I love dancing, but I’ve never done any classes, really.  Two left feet and all that.  I do karate now, which actually uses a lot of the same skills.  (Really, you’d be surprised.)

And yup, I know all about the grad school shuffle.  Got my M.A. last year and I’m so glad I’m not working on a PhD right now! smile

Cheers,
Julie

LOL,
You learn something new every day and here I thought Zumba was some sort of a remote control robotic floor sweeper.
