Thought I’d better introduce myself before I charge around the forum offering ‘sage advice’ to anyone who’s prepared to listen.  grin

My name is James, I’m 40 and living in the wild east of England.  I’m currently getting back into shape after a motorcyle accident.  It’s kind of a two steps forward, one step back process at the moment, so I’m using MtM to keep me going.

I am a YMCA qualified gym instructor, so sometimes I know what I’m talking about.  Sometimes.  Feel free to ignore anything I say or tell me to shut up/go away/mind my own business etc.

Cheers,

Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,

Welcome to the forum! So, do you normally apologize for thinking and having opinions. Geesh man. rasberry I’m listening to a great book you might like called, “I need your love, is that true?” by Bryon Katie. It’s going over all the things we do to impress people and the ways we apologize (nudge nudge, jab jab) to people in hope that they will like us.

So far I think you are pretty darned cool just for coming to the forum and looking to connect with us. I applaud that you are getting back in shape after your motorcycle accident. I do admire that you poke fun at yourself and that you probably don’t take yourself all that seriously all the time.

It almost sounds like you want to apologize for being really passionate about fitness. You awful man you.

Well, I look forward to your progress as you take your two steps forward and one step back. I think they call that the cha-cha, but I could be wrong.
Have a marvelous day!

Welcome!

Are you following a specific plan for your rehab?  If so, is it something you can track on the 100 day challenge?  That way we can all help you in your effort!  LOL

Welcome to the forum Jimmy!

Everyone is welcome here.  I think all advise is welcome, only the person receiving it will know if it right for them.  Even then they may need to use bits and pieces of different people’s advice.

Hope you let us know what your rehab plan is so we can cheer you on.

Once again welcome to the forum!

Hi Jimmy,

I’m kind of slow getting here (been out of town), but I wanted to say welcome!  grin

You’re absolutely right that listening to Scott’s podcasts and perhaps setting up a 100 Days of Exercise challenge for yourself will be a great way to help you get back in shape after your accident.  There’s nothing like that daily encouragement to get you moving and keep you moving.

I look forward to seeing your progress!

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

Welcome, Jimmy! It’s good to “meet” you.  Would you be willing to let us in on more of the details of what you’re working through to get back into shape?  There are others here on the forum who are looking to start working out with pain (in order to get rid of it), so your insight would be welcome.

I try not to “know” too much about fitness myself :D but am a pain in the butt because I’m a solutionist (and a perfectionist).  So you and I should compare and contrast views sometime- I love to see other fitness enthusiasts’ and professionals’ views.  I am also one to give a kick in the butt when needed, as long as others are willing to kick my butt when I need it.

Hello Jimmy. What would keep you from being motivated to get in shape right now? What makes you stray from that path?

Thanks everyone for your warm welcome and offers of support.  I’m currently at the start of week 3 of the SMSM programme and *touch wood* it’s all going very well so far and I’m having a lot of fun.  It’s like having someone to encourage me to keep going on the days I don’t want to.  My aim is just to build up my strength and stamina and then move on to the 100 days.

Cheers,

Jimmy

I wish you luck with staying on track, I know how hard it can be at times since I let emotional eating get me off of my own path before. But you’ve picked some great motivational tools and people to have in your life, so I’m sure you’ll do fine.

Hi and a rather late welcome.

Congratulations on making it through two weeks of the SMSM program and starting the 3rd week.  That’s a great accomplishment.

I’m looking forward to hearing your perspectives on health and fitness.
