I was told that gum was a good way to help you with cravings? What do you think?

Stay hungry, stay foolish

Oldschool depends what your craving, gum is good to stop hunger, but if you crave something specific well thats a different story!

Rob,
With cravings, I usually just go for a walk and/or find something to do that takes my mind off of whatever I’m craving.  I find that if I’m not around what I’m craving, I’m usually okay.

Gum works sometimes… but not always satisfying…

Whatever happened to ‘moderation’ - you can have anything so long as the portion size isn’t outrageous… hmmm?  What are your thoughts?

SK and Shawn you both have great points. I guess the problem would be more self control on certain items. That is why it might be better to stay away from. Portion size has always been a problem.

I have a great trick for portion sizes, I prepare all my meals in advance and measure the potions out myself, this way I don’t end up eating to much.

Do you know the way to deal with portions sizes and measuring with your hand? I don’t know about that but I look forward to hearing your answer.

I remeber hearing that a portion of meat should be about the size of your fist, there is also the dinner plate strategy, don’t quote me, but I think it 1/4 meat 1/4 starch and the rest is supposed to be vegetables.

Busyness is my best friend that combats cravings.  I notice the less down time I have, the less I graze and crave.

Isn’t the whole meal supposed to be the size of your fist?

A serving size of protein (meat) is about the size of a deck of cards.

I believe your correct about the meat Muscles but I’m not so shore about the size of the meal.

When I get some cravings I drink a lot of water to fill me up.  I usually notice them more when I haven’t had a lot of water recently.  Or a small handful of Almonds will take care of the cravings when water does not.  Hope that helps.

Well I will try that with those. What do you think about flax seeds?

Your body can’t digest flax seeds that are unground. They will just pass through. You can still eat them, you just won’t get the health benefit you would get from flaxseed oil or ground flax seeds.

When I have a bad food craving I try to make the things I crave as hard to get as possible.  For instance - if I crave potato chips - and they’re not in the house - I will make myself ride my bicycle to the store to buy them - and then - only the small 2 serving bags.  After doing this once or twice - It gets to the point where it is not worth the effort - and I move on.

I also tell myself - is it really worth it?  HOW BAD DO YOU WANT THEM?  Usually - Not Bad Enough!

That is also a great idea. I had being so close to a store to buy those things. It’s like three blocks away.
Thank you for your advice.
