I know that a big part of losing weight is to drink enough water. Does anyone want to join me for drinking at least 64oz per day!!!

Today will be Day 1

Hi Julie,

I will.  I have gotten better at work, having it sitting on my desk, but am still bad at home.  It is a good time for me to start with the weekend starting.

today, I took a bottle with me everywhere I went in the car. After a while, I added Crystal Light’s packet and it was good. I got the iced tea and it felt good to drink something with flavor.

Today will be my day #2 ...

I drink 16 oz first thing in the morning.....then a 20 oz while exercising, then 20 ounces on the way to work.....and another 20 ounces before lunch....another 20 ounces twice after lunch and on the way home......If I work out after work, I’ll take a 20 ounce bottle with me.....
So thats......let’s see116 ounces a day on average....

this morning, I woke up and drank my 16 ounces....then went on a long bike ride and drank 36 ounces....have been drinking all day (another 80 oucnes....) last one right now 16 ounces.....

the more I exercise, the more I drink (of course), plus ‘starting’ my day with 16 ounces helps!

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

Thanks for sharing your tip!! Perhaps, chunking my water intake or planning it might be the way to go! I will start to drink water in the morning as well, I think that might jump start my day!! Now, do you still drink coffee or tea?

Tom,
Two cups of espresso a day?  Hmmm, doesn’t caffeine dehydrate you… good thing you’re drinking 116 oz/day tongue laugh

I like my water to be cold so I’ve gotten into the habit of freezing half in my freezer, then when I am ready to leave for a walk, I take the half frozen bottle out of the freezer and fill the rest up with water.  Throughout the day, the ice melts leaving me with cold water throughout.  I drink my fair share of water - often more than 64 oz, though not as much as Tom… but close.

Coffee can not dehydrate you as it is not the diuretic that is commonly thought. Besides, two espressos isn’t really that much coffee.

I love the idea of freezing a partial bottle of water, and then topping it off. Great idea!

Please keep in mind that the “8 glasses of water” (approx. 64 oz.) recommendation is just that. It’s like the 2000 calorie/day recommendation.... if I want to lose weight, that is what I aim for. If I’m trying to maintain my current weight, it would be closer to 3000. Water is the same. Since our bodies are largely made up of water, the bigger one is the more water that is required. The rule of thumb that I go by is to take my weight and divide that in two. That is how many ounces of water, minimum, that I drink per day. Some may say, “that seems like a lot of water”, but it really is not that far off of the “recommendation”. Typically for me that’s about 100 (3 x 32 oz bottles = 96… close enough) or so ounces, which is just filling my bottle three times per day. Being summer, and hot (well, it hasn’t been the past week here, but it’s getting warmer again), I tend to drink four or five 32 oz bottles of water per day, especially if I’m being very active.

This is a good thread, I like it alot.  I carry a water bottle with me everywhere I go at work.  I believe the bottle is a 24oz bottle and I typically drink about 2 or 3 bottles full.  Some days more depeding upon what I am doing.  I love having my water as cold as possible and fill my bottle very full with ice cubes.  I will track my intake on this thread to watch my intake more closely.  I also start my day with a cup of coffee too.  On days when I do not drink enough water I get headaches and am very moody.  So, I need to make sure to drink enough water daily.  Will make today my first day on this thread.

I love reading all the tips you fabulous people have!! I will freeze my bottle and add it with water!! What a great idea! I am also a coffee person, so I need that first thing in the morning. Also, I like tea and all of that still uses water right??? I’ve been doing really good with my water intake for the past few days! The hot weather also helps and so does exercsing! Let me ask you is adding those water flavors bad for you? Sometimes, I use crystal light to add some flavor and I wonder if there could be any side effects of that?

Juliee,
I was wondering the same thing.  Sometimes I need that bit of “flavour” to keep the water interesting.  I saw the commercials for it, but haven’t tried it yet - how does it taste?

My only concern with Crystal Light is the artificial sweeteners it contains.  I also like a little flavor in the water so I add a little plain lemon, lime, or cranberry juice.  During my workouts, plain water is my preference.  I have a hydration pack with 3 liters that I take kayaking or hiking and a water bottle that follows me everywhere else.

I like adding lemon to my water it makes it taste really good!!  I would agree with Paula go with something like lemon or lime, I don’t like the artificial sweetners either.  I have heard that it is better to have straight up regular sugar, rather than the artificial sweetners.  So, go with a natural sweetner instead that is made by nature, can’t go wrong with that.  Yesterday I had consumed about 4 of my 24oz water bottle at work.  At home I had about 3 more full glasses full.  So, I definately got all my water consumpation in yesterday.  Will update on today’s progress later on.

Scooby,
Wow, that’s a whole lot of water!  Did you make lots of trips to the “facilities” I drink a lot of water mostly when I know that there are washrooms nearby, but not so much when I’m at work or hiking… sometimes difficult to visit the facilities…

Paula,
That’s a great idea to add some lemons/limes or a bit of cranberry juice.  I’ve seen it done, but again it’s something that I’ve never done yet.  I’ll definitely have to give it a try.
