Hey, Lynn!  I lived in Scottsdale for a few years.  During the summer, the gym was the place to be, or a very early or late jog outside.  When it starts getting cooler, I LOVED the hiking in the Phoenix area.  I’m starting to get a little hazy on the park names, but there was never a shortage of beautiful desert park areas to hike and jog.  I live in the Bay Area now, which I love, but I do miss the wonderful hikes that I used to take in AZ.  I have fond memories of hikes as the sun began to set, even during the hot months.  The warmth was nice.  My buddy Mike Cavaroc still lives in Scottsdale and keeps in shape by regular desert hikes, and he also takes some beautiful photography of the scenery when he’s out.  You can check out his photos at http://cavaroc.com/.

Best of luck movin the body in Phoenix.  The heat can be difficult at times, yet AZ can also be a beautiful place to get out and get in shape. smile

Oh yes, the Rock n Roll marathon is a blast, too!

Hi Eric

I have been listening for about 2 months. I became a premium member about 1.5 months ago. I’ not a huge message board person, I prefer reading them more than posting. Anyway, I’m planning to start the 100 day challenge, tomorrow will be day 1. I think going on and posting about my day will keep me accountable.

About me: My name is Toni, I’m 41 years old. I am a naturopathic doctor, I have a practice in central Phoenix. I counsel my patients daily on weight loss and lifestyle changes. I know what to do, my problem is motivation. I really love listening to Scott- he is very motivating, but I still have not been consistent on getting moving.
however, I am changing this.

I read your 100 days posts. It sounds like you are doing well. I was wondering how your diabetes is doing? And I also wondered why you let your children eat fast food? Since you are diabetic they are at risk too, it’s much easier to prevent it. Also, teaching them healthy eating habits now will help them avoid going through what you are when they get older. That’s my 2 cents worth.

Keep up the good work!!

Well, fast food isn’t a huge part of our diet plan anymore.  But good point on the diabetes and how they are at risk as well.  I forget that often.

My diabetes is very maintained.  To tell you the truth, if I cheat, my blood sugar rarely goes above 150.  The exercise has helped tremendously.  Plus, my diet is a lot better, and I’m on good meds finally.  This is a good year for my health.  It’s all good stuff.

I listened to the podcasts for over a year before I did anything.  But I enjoyed listening, and I think I made small changes along the way.  At least, I want to believe so.  In any case, the click happened around February.  I started working out and eating better.  That was when I started the 100 day challenge.  I stumbled a lot, and wasn’t very serious.  But the changes began, and I think my log on this forum reflects all of that.  Progress is being made.  My lifestyle is different.  It’s a very good feeling.  The SMSM program really helped me kick it up a notch.

I’m turning 29 very soon.  I’m married, 3 kids.  They’re all having a birthday soon, and they’ll be 6, 4, 2 years old.  All girls.  My wife just turned 28.  We’re both eating right, now.  We’ve both lost a bunch of weight.  She’s working on getting exercise now.  It’s been difficult to balance who goes when.  But since I can go at lunch, she has the right to veto me at any time.  That works rather well, actually.

I’m a computer programmer.  I’ve been in the IT field for 7 years now.  She’s a medical biller, and has been for a few years now.  She works for one, and also has some contract work on the side.  So, if you need billing done, let us know!  smile

Keep up the good work!!  Glad to see you are making changes!

Eric

Hi Again

Thanks for the reply. I hope my last post wasn’t too intrusive. I see lots of parents who begin to eat right and change their lifestyle but they often get tempted to eat poor by what their children are eating. I think people are more successful when the whole family gets involved.

I have struggled with my weight the last 15 years or so- it really got out of control during med school- lots of late night studying and coffee, along with eating out a lot and sitting in class all day.

I have about 65 pounds to lose, I do well when I get active- I just have little time (having my own business is time consuming) but, as Scott would say- there is always time, what is the real reason you are not doing it? hmmmmm....

My plan is to get to the gym this afternoon, but I just have so much on my plate today- I will have to put it on my schedule so I know it will get done.

I’ve been reading a book Scott recommends- The Success Principles by Jack Canfield- this is a great book! It’s all about thinking positive, goal setting, etc. It is definitely helping me get my priorities in order.

Keep up the good work!

Look for my 100 days of exercise posts soon.

Peace,
Toni

North Phoenix!  Awesome!  I work at I-17 and Greenway, so probably up in your neck of the woods, eh?

I hope all is well with you.  Don’t give up!  If you look at my journey (Eric’s 12 week crash course), it’s littered with problems and failure on the 12 week crash course.  I’m only a couple of pounds down, and I’m supposedly halfway through it!!!  But I’m still pushing through, knowing I will be that much better off in the end!

Keep going!
