LOL! Alberta beef is awesome! (but always in moderation). Okay… so now a lot of you have made yourselves known (new premium members?!?!), how ‘bout a topic.
Since this is a fitness website… if you had to travel, where in Canada would you love to go to have a “Healthy” vacation?
My sister turned me onto the idea of hiking through Newfoundland, since there are beautiful trails from all corners of the island…
I’m enjoying the thread and the different ideas that are being shared. Thanks for initiating this, Dave.
A healthy vacation or a vacation that stretches any of us (and our PTU’s) further in healthy ways, an opportunity to go beyond, to try something new, to find fulfillment. There’s motivation enough right there. But, then, add each region’s unique blend of foods and beverages into the mix and our motivation to move through Canada begins multiplying exponentially … it becomes a moveable feast.
I’m partial to Alberta beef grilled on the BBQ. The Okanogan is the place for fruit. Sleeman’s and Molson Canadian beer are to be sought out. Sausage and perogies are a treat as are our Canadian wines. Maple butter and candy from the Ganong Chocolate factory in New Brunswick are not to be lived without. Victoria has its Murchies Coffee house right next door to Alice Munro’s bookstore, Munro’s Books.
Clothing sounds like it could be fun too … how about a Canadian, Motivation to Move touque or cycling jersey.
Across Canada – which way …? West to East, East to West … North to South. Back when Peter Gzowski brought us Morningside on CBC Radio, he interviewed a woman who’d biked from Inuvik to California and beyond, reaching the southern-most point of South America. For me, I’ve always wanted to cycle across Canada. At 100-150kms/day it takes about 5 weeks to cycle from Vancouver to St. John’s, Newfoundland and there are Canadian cycling groups that we can add ourselves to.
With hiking, there’s the Bruce Trail, the West Coast Trail and the Trans-Canada trail. A more sizeable challenge that pays significant dividends is the fat burning and beautiful panoramas that hiking through the Rockies can bring – Canmore, Banff and the Crowsnest areas. And, then, there are some ‘wicked’ five-day adventure-endurance runs back on Canada’s eastern-most shores … Newfoundland and Labrador.
So, there are options and possibilities for getting together and being active together. Whatever we might attempt … it will be a first, a never-done by any of us before … hmmh?
For those of us in Alberta ... maybe a meet in Edmonton or Calgary will be in the cards ... let’s see.
Ross, don’t forget the maple syrup from Quebec and the shrimp and lobster from the Gaspe coast!
Shawn – it’s been forty years since I’ve lived outside Montreal in Roxboro and my last visit was to Quebec City back in 1988. But, Maple syrup, Maple sugar and Maple butter are all sure to be found in Quebec. What else might we find? Along with all we might get up to, this definitely has the potential to be a sumptuous, moveable feast.
Hey ... Quebec city is celebrating 400 years since its establishment next year, 2008.
And, there are a couple of cycling tours through Quebec and the maritime provinces … hmmh?
I miss Alberta!, I miss Saskatchewan!! (formly from Lloydminster) and I miss Tim’s!!!!! Alaska is beautiful, but they don’t have Tim’s Horton, I swear they put something in the coffee!!
Ross I grew up not to far from Roxboro, I lived in Dollard Des Ormeaux for most of my childhood and a part of my adult life. I had to mention Gaspe, because my girlfriend is from there and the seafood is wicked!
