We (brad and I) have been chatting a bit in my 100day challenge topic, about the nike+ addon for the ipod. And figured it might be fun to setup a challenge for MTM members to join.
I’ve gone ahead and setup a distance challenge. Its not competative, that is: all you have to do is complete the target distance, no pressure to come in first or meet a certain deadline.
Should be both fun and inspiring to see the little bargraphs grow as your fellow MTM members collect their kilometers/miles don’t you think ?
The challenge is to log 60km (or roughly 37miles) on the ipod starting monday the 21st of May. I’m guesstimating that 15km (or about 10miles) should be a reasonable target for most people the intention is that this’ll last about 4 weeks. But as stated above (if I understand the nike site correctly ) there should be no timelimit, so anyone can join in and complete it at their own pace !
If you’re interested in joining the challenge just leave a message here with your nike+ ID and I’ll add you to it.
And don’t worry if you spot this after the 21st, if you join later anything you’ve logged from the 21st onwards will still count towards the goal.
Sounds like a great challenge. I’d join if I had the Nike + thing. I have an iPod but it’s the video one. I don’t really want to have to go buy the nano...have you heard anything about making the Nike+ work on all iPods?

I have no clue why it couldn’t simply work on all iPods, but as far as I know it doesn’t.
Perhaps its a marketing scheme the nano seems to be specifically targetted at the “hip, young and active”, dunno,… ?
When i bought mine the whole nike+ things didn’t exist yet, nor did I seriously plan to use it while exercising (exersice ?!, that makes you tired doens’t it ?? ) I simply opted for the smallest ipod (that has a display on it) so it’d fit in my pocket and I could listen to music while on the train.

Brilliant idea, Alex!
I’ll see if I can pick one up tomorrow...I already have a nano.
I don’t have a nike / ipod thing, but this seems to be the sort of thing that could be done with any pedometer, or even an online resource like Map My Run or Google Maps Pedometers.
For anyone doing this challenge, Judy is in the process of doing a virtual “walk across America” on this thread, and I’m sure she’d love any miles you care to donate to the cause. The walking team (which I recently joined) has gone from Maine to North Carolina, and we’re going down to Lake Mary to visit Scott (virtually, alas).

Good luck, everyone!

At the core the gadget is nothing more than a fancy pedometer, so, yes you’re right…
Nevertheless, for a gadget freak like myself the high-tech feeling to it seems to work well in the motivation department
I’ll have a look at Judy’s effort, but first its time to strap on the running shoes
FYI it does require the Nano and does not work with the video - the reason for this is the video one contains a hard drive and probably wouldn’t be best to run with it.
Also there are a variety of shoe pouches available online cheap that attach the sensor to any shoes laces.
I forgot to mention that nikerunning.com has a training log that will sync your workouts from the nike +. They have different graphics from the nike+ site. You can add other forms of exercise to the calendar as well. Now you can also download the calendar to outlook or ical. Click the training log under the train menu.

I didn’t know that site, but it seems it does know me , I could logon with my nike+ id/passwd.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Even though it looks pretty and feature-rich (always a good thing ) the calender seems to be all empty, how do you get it to sync your nike+ data into the calendar ?
Any chance I could get an invite into the MTM Challenge? My Nike+ ID is RafMD.
I’ve had this since early this year, but haven’t really used it. I started my 100 Days challenge the other day and used it. I hope to use it as a motivator and as a log of what I’ve done.
Actually having the nike+ shoes helps in that you don’t need anything extra to place the sensor in. But for those of you who have shoes and/or don’t want to get new shoes, Marware which is an iPod accessories company makes a $10 pocket that straps to your shoeslace that you can fit the sensor in.
I personally used an old Nike shoe wallet. From what I’ve read on various websites, the shoes aren’t really needed. Using the Marware device or taping it with duct tape doesn’t affect accuracy. Just as long as it’s on your foot so that the accelerometer in the sensor can measure your footstrikes you’ll be okay.
