I got inspired to create this new topic by the Wiggles, my daughter loves listening to them. One of their songs goes like this, “ Let us eat fresh fruit and veggies.” So I would like to create a new thread based off this song. Let us see how close we can come to the guideline of eating 5 servings of fruit and veggies every day. I would like to hear how many servings you are having daily and what kind of fruit and veggies. I am always looking for new and different ways to get my servings of fresh fruit and veggies in on a daily basis. So far today I have had one serving of fresh fruit for breakfast, I had a fruit salad which had grapes, strawberrys, kiwi, pineapple, and honey melon. Yum it was really delicous. I will update this later on in the day with more of my fruit and veggie postings. I am going to have serving number two of my fruit right now, which is a serving of some red grapes for my mid morning snack. Let’s see what fun we can have with this topic.
Great idea Scoob! So far today I’ve had a 1/4 cup of fresh blueberries in my strawberry yogurt with real strawberries for breakfast, one bunch of red seedless grapes for my mid-morning snack and a big fresh veggie salad for lunch. I have a banana saved for my pre-workout 4PM snack. Tonight I am having steamed brocolli with my Salmon Florentine pin wheel. You think I’ll get all my servings in? You betcha!
Today I had blueberries with my oatmeal, some red grapes with my soup and sandwich at lunch, and I have a big honkin’ apple to go with some cheese for a snack this afternoon. Tonight I’m going to roast green beans to go along with my salmon, and I’ll probably toss up a quick salad of mixed baby lettuces, sliced cucumber and some grape tomatoes.
Hey gang!
Oatmeal with applesauce for breakfast (yum!)
Apple for snack
Asparagus at lunch
Broccoli with my steak
Fruit smoothie for desert after dinner (fruit and calcium)
Small apple, 3 fruit leather strips, tomatos (with mozarella and oil/vinegar), stir fry which included: cauliflower, onion, green beans, bell peppers, garlic, olives, tofu, parsley, broccoli, carrots, the kitchen sink...; V8.
Interesting thread. We have a campaign going at the moment to encourage the eating of ‘2 and 5’ (2 fruit, 5 veg) every day. The website is here
http://www.gofor2and5.com.au/ and I thought it might give us all more inventive ways of getting all of that good stuff into us!
For the record, today I’ve had 1 apple, 1 pear, carrot, broccoli, mushrooms and tomato (yes, I know tomato is really fruit!) I also worked out I really don’t like to eat the fruit straight out of the refrigerator....so I’m making my selection the night before and leaving it out on the bench. No excuses now!!
Yesterday I had a Mango Smoothie for breakfast, 1 cup cantaloupe for my mid-morning snack, salad with carrots, onion, turkey slice cut up and snap peas for lunch, one medium apple for mid-afternoon pre-workout snack and tomato, zucchini, onion, chicken breast curry mixture with fresh cilantro over brown rice for dinner. yummy!!!
Today I had another Mango Smoothie for breakfast so far. I brought to work a fresh fruit salad with cantaloupe, grapes and blueberries for mid-morning snack and a banana for mid-afternoon. I don’t know what I’m doing for lunch or dinner yet.
I love this thread...it is really making me think more about what I eat.
Today:
pear for breakfast
carrots for morning tea (chopped up and in fridge ready to go)
lunch - lettuce, tomato, capsicum, cucumber, carrot (& tuna)
apple - afternoon tea
dinner - lettuce, tomato, capsicum
Here is what I had yesterday for my servings of fruit and veggies
For breakfast I had a banana.
For a mid morning snack I had some grapes.
For lunch I had some apple sauce.
And for dinner a nice big helping of green beans.
So I got 3 serving of fruit and 1 serving of vegetables for a total of 4. I want to concentrate on getting more vegetables into my diet. Doing great with the fruit. I will post later on with today’s intake of fruit and veggies.
