Thought that would get people’s attention. Anyway, whenever I go to weight crashers on Mondays and Wednesdays, by half way through I’m all brokeout and itchy with a heat rash. I haven’t notcied this with any of my other workouts. It goes away later in the evening, but it makes the second half of the workout just icky. Any ideas on what causes this??? Could it be the aerobcis room or just something wrong with me? I get a heat rash whenever I’m outside in the sun and heat during the spring/summer/fall but I’m working out inside. (I don’t do well in the heat and sun). Any ideas at preventing this????

If it never happens any where else, its the room.  It could be mold, chemical fumes or anything that is in the room.  Tell whoever is in charge and see if anyone else has the problem.

I got hives in junior high in an art class.  It only happened in that room and when away during the next class somewhere else.

Take care.

Boy, I’d try a different room and see if it still happens.  If not, you found your answer, something in the room is making your allergies go off....other than that, I have no idea!

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

Thanks. I haven’t really noticed the same reaction when I go to yoga on Fridays. I’ll have to make sure I notice next week.

I found it! So I’m still “breaking out” in a rash when I work out, if I work out hard. I was goofing around on a dermatologist site looking for other things and came across a name for my “work out allergy,” Cholinergic urticaria.

Cholinergic urticaria is often thought of as a young person’s hiving and tends to affect those in their early teens through mid 30’s and is seen more commonly in males. This physical urticaria is due to the presence of adrenaline that causes the mast cells to degranulate. Cholinergic urticaria has a very specific appearance, forming multiple tiny pink or red bumps, often only in certain areas of higher blood flow/sweat formation to the skin. Cholinergic urticaria tends to have an abrupt onset and lasts for only between 30-60 minutes. Anything that causes an increase in adrenaline (exercise, stress, heat exposure) can trigger this condition.

Jenni,
It may be that you’re perspiring more when you do the weight crashers vs yoga and it may be a reaction to a number of factors:  detergent that you use in your laundry. I’ve seen some people wrking up a frothy, bubbly mix when their sweat mixes with residual laundry detergent. Or maybe a reaction to the workout clothes that you are wearing, (my daughter is mildly alergic to spandex) and when she works out she’ll breakout.
