Today, at work, we got to dress casually if we donated a pair of jeans to the homeless. PERFECT… because I got the blue jeans with the 42” waist that I no longer need.

As part of this activity, pizza was bought for everyone in the company… BOOOOOO!!! Nothing like the smell of pizza wafting through the building! I know that I can have the occassional pizza, but not in the middle of the week. I’d rather not indulge on Wednesday afternoon… I would rather wait for the weekend. But DAAAAANG!!! I needed to take my lunch and leave the building until the smell subsided!

I wouldn’t want to work in a restaurant! cheese

Great job avoiding the temptation and donating to charity.  You rewarded yourself by leaving the pizza smell filled building.  You won’t be carrying around that pizza and wishing for those bigger pants in the future.

Hi Clay/Henry,

Congrats on your ability to listen to the little voice in your head that knows what’s good for you.  Aren’t you proud of yourself?  We’re certainly proud of you!

Out of curiosity, what size jeans are you wearing now?

Cheers,
Julie

C/H I know how you feel. I go home for lunch everyday because it’s so close but there is always things to avoid in the breakroom here at work. Today one of the women brought her leftover Easter Candy to the office. The other brought a box of candy to sell for her grandson’s baseball team. Everyday I have to walk by these temptations. Thankfully I’ve held strong. It would be even harder if chocolate smells were wafting through the office.

Thanks so much for the kind words, Julie!! Right now, I have a pair of 38” jeans that are falling off of me. I will be buying a couple of pairs of 36” jeans tomorrow to tide me over. I will probably be wearing 34” waist jeans when I finally get below 200 lbs.

Thankfully, resisting the pizza (and the other food that infiltrates my building at work such as junk from clients and mothers/fathers selling stuff for their kids) has become more second nature to me. However, I must admit that the smell was very inviting.... mmmmmmmmmmm!!

Unfortunately, this thread is just another illustration that many workplaces don’t cater to healthy eating. (Vending machines are another example… BOOOOOOO!!)

We get pizza for the entire company on two days a year on the same days as the all staff meeting.  I’m not sure how many pizzas they have to bring in to feed 1800 people ... it would be interesting to ask.

One of the days is whatever business day Halloween is on ... so not only do you have Halloween treats all over, you have pizza and sodas.

At least a person can plan and have good snacks ..LOL ... and some times I even eat them.

Oh goodness, do I have dozens of pounds of stories about this subject.... I’ll spare you the details and just say that working in restaurants for the past 6 years has certainly thrown a kink - or an entire stop sign - into my diet plan at times!

So for your diet’s sake, it’s a VERY good thing you’re not faced with all sorts of restaurant goodies all day long. I suppose that mid-week office pizza isn’t as horrifying when you consider the alternatives smile

Hi Carlyn!

I can definitely relate to the challenges you faced while working in a restaurant. When I was in college, I did work for a pizza place… and got to eat the left over pre-prepared pizza when the restaurant closed at midnight.  confused

Pizza + Midnight = Disaster!  cheese

In high school I worked at subway and found out that eating subway does not make you skinny. There’s cookies, smoothies, salad dressing. Lots and lots of place to go wrong all while telling yourself ‘its subway, its healthy.’ By working there we got free food while we worked so I ate lots of subway. Not good. I can no longer eat subway.

It’s all about choices no matter where you work.  There will be temptation coming at you from all sides.  At some point you just have to learn to choose wisely, and move on, or choose to choose not so wisely and do some exercise or mini dieting to compensate.

Tim - I congratulate you on your wise choice.  Pizza wasn’t forbidden, it was something you preferred to save for another time.  You decided to step away from the temptation (very smart) and not fight it.  You may not realize how powerful those choices are, but in this moment you took control of your life and decided what was right for you.  This is an example of Scott’s Free Will principle at work.  What an empowering example you are for all of us.
