… well I didn’t make it either… went swimming instead… but sitll haven’t got a WT session in.  I am not impressed with myself.

Funny how it’s harder to impress ourselves than each other.

I’m going to Orlando to spend time with Cyndi. Bringing my hand weights with me, and planning to do Jazzercise down there while she gets her hair cut Sat am. Hope we can also go for some walks if it’s not too sweltering. I long for cooler weather after my days in New York.

Got the one Jazzercise session in (Sat). Nothing Monday. I really want to get back into the routine and then step it back up.

Monday, Sept 2: the strength training part of the 5:30 class plus the 7p class. A bit gingerly towards the sore shoulder. Felt like bursitis but I think it was just a “slept-wrong” situation. About 50% better today. Weights were fine with proper form, but raising my arm over my head wasn’t going to happen.

Feeling more back in the flow. The PLAN (putting it in writing) is to get up at 5a tomorrow and start going to the 5:30am classes, as they’re brand new and I want to support them, I think I will benefit from early morning exercise, and I want to step it up. I will still have to do the 7p class the same night, due to my ‘work’ there. We’ll see how that works long-term. Tonight, I return to the gym. I have a loose plan, have to ease back into the heavier resistance stuff a little as it’s been a few weeks.

Wow Ann - 5 am and 7 pm?  You are certainly dedicated.  Just be sure to get the recovery you will need.  I’m glad to see your still working hard even after you made your major goal.  Now it is tweeking the plan.  Good job!!

Thanks, Catherine!  I still consider the ‘major’ goal to be the weight mark, and I’m still not there, though the single-digit size has really been messing with me. Mind you, bought more clothes over the weekend (resale and thrift) and they’re mostly 10P.

Tonight, Wednesday, made it to the smaller gym. I got the last treadmill, though one woman was just standing on hers. I hadn’t seen that behavior before at my gym, so I was tempted to glower at her but didn’t. Did a brisk 15 minute warmup, a mile. Then lower back extension, rowing machine, then all free weights. I didn’t feel ready to work the legs, and I thought I’d get as good a workout with weights as the chest machines.

Worked shoulders, delts, lots of triceps, biceps, chest (pec flies, etc), upper back. I wanted to switch to the 10# weights from the 9 but they weren’t on the shelf, so I just did more reps. Then 30# elliptical and some stretching.

My weight’s inching back down from the overeating I did this past weekend. I knew it would. Wow, that really messed up my system to be so over-full though.

I still plan on going at 5:30 tomorrow morning. I’m setting my alarm on my phone so I don’t have to mess with my regular clock. I can be home before the time I normally get up, jump in the shower, be at work early. Hopefully I won’t run out of steam in the middle of the day. It may also help me with the work tension I’ve got going on… lots of projects, and I seem to be having more trouble multitasking lately… distracted I guess. Exercise sure does help with the stress.

My shoulder’s almost all better. I figured it would be.

Thursday, September 5: Hey, I did it! Despite a terrible night’s sleep, I might add, I forced myself up when the alarm went off and did the 5:30am class. It was fun. There were eight of us, including some women I haven’t seen recently, and the instructor was the franchise owner, whom I don’t actually get in my rotation that much, so her set was new and different.

The rough part was afterwards. I went home and showered, then lay down for a while till my regular alarm went off, then lay there listening to the news on NPR. I made it to work early but I do feel groggy for that little catnap. Tonight, I must must MUST get a solid night’s sleep. I have good luck with melatonin usually, so I’ll take one as soon as I get home tonight and work on setting the conditions for a good night’s rest.

Between last night’s gym and this morning’s class, my body feels quite well-used, but not sore. Just getting back into the swing. We did some planks this morning (sideways) and I’ve got to incorporate them into my routine more.

Okay, maybe I overdid it. By the 7pm class Thursday I was feeling it… the pecs from the gym the night before, the legs and glutes from a combo of Tuesday’s and Thursday am classes. Wasn’t too fatigued though to get through it. I just skipped the pec work with the resistance band in one of the numbers.  Truly, not feeling bad today, but I am not planning on going to the gym tonight. Instead will rest up and plan on doing the two Jz classes tomorrow morning. Looks like we’re in for a gloomy rainy weekend, though not a hurricane hit, so I guess I’ll plan indoor activities.

Friday, September 5: rest day. Had a few glasses of white wine in a desperate attempt to get a sound night’s sleep (I almost never drink wine.) I went to bed early but still had that wide-awake-at 2am syndrome and couldn’t get back to sleep till almost 4. Something must be bothering me and I’m not quite sure how to deal with it other than try to trick myself to sleep.

Saturday, September 6: got up and did the two Jazzercise classes back to back. Saw a lot of women I hadn’t seen over the past two weeks, having been out of town. Good stuff.

Have you been having sleeping problems long?

You are kicking butt on your classes! Wow. Which do you prefer, the am or the pm class?

Have you been having sleeping problems long?

Well, off and on, starting with the time period where I was so surprisingly upset that my friend had made a love connection that wasn’t me. I’m pretty much over that. Still kinda shocked at how badly I took that. I realized I’d sort of framed it so that I would feel validated if, when he saw me again, he was attracted to the new, slimmer me, and I wouldn’t be so aloof that time around. I guess he had no idea I was that interested despite our long correspondence. And then my trip got delayed and he met her first. It seems they’re happy, and he’s not the guy for me. But I was just way too vulnerable where I was in my journey anyway. Going through that embarrassment has helped me re-evaluate who I am and what I want, which has been helpful.

Since then it’s mainly been work that’s been stressing me out, but also I had some anxiety about the tropical storm canceling my trip. I think I’m just off kilter. Different hours, eating somewhat badly. Even though I’ve been more on track this week my body hasn’t recovered, I guess.

You are kicking butt on your classes! Wow. Which do you prefer, the am or the pm class?

I think I like having the early morning option. However, it’s offered Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, and since I’m the cust service rep for the 7pm classes those days, it means I’ll be doing two on the same day if I continue to do morning workouts.  I would also have to adapt to getting up that much earlier on certain days, rather than getting up at the same time nearly every morning as I do now.

Yes, I am two classes away from being the first person at my center to bag 150 classes so far this year… and that will make me the recipient of a bronze handbag with “Jazzercise” on it. It’s cute, but I really am more into being first (and healthy) rather than the giftie.

Monday, September 8: 7pm Jazzercise, plus the resistance portion of the 5:30 class. Leetle bonus there. I intend to go tomorrow morning to the 5:30am class if I can get my butt up and out on time, as tomorrow night I might go to play trivia with one of the other Jazzercise csr’s, skipping my usual class.

I’m up, I’m up! Made it to the 5:30 am class, one of six in attendance. I’m glad Cherie hasn’t added any new numbers, as I can do her set on autopilot I think. smile

I washed my yoga mat yesterday, after I’d used it underneath the towel at the beach and couldn’t get the sand off without a strong spray of water. I forgot it this morning, as it was draped over a spring rod in the shower. Exercised on the hard floor. Not too bad, though I do tend to slip when I do the plank and the glute exercise routine. I have a spare mat at the office but didn’t think to take it with me.

Congrats on the Jazzercise class award.

Hope you’re sleeping better. I have issues with that some times too. It’s crummy.

Thanks, Joan. It’s really interesting to think how many different things can affect one’s sleep, isn’t it? I’m doing better in that department currently, thanks. Last night I played trivia, skipping the 7p class and eating (too much) barbecue. I slept pretty solidly considering I went to bed pretty early and slept in a little. Up at midnight for a bit. I think the caffeine taper-off has helped, and so has getting my head a bit more clear regarding both work and personal issues.

Funny, no one noticed it was my 150th class. smile

Yah Ann!!  The important thing is that you know what you’ve accomplished.  Your new body is the best sign you carry with you everywhere you go!!

Thanks, Catherine!

It’s funny how much I’ve been feeling all week like I’m off track. I’ve still worked out the same amount of Jz classes, just skipped the gym last night to do something else. I didn’t have time to weigh myself this morning but tonight I got on the scale and I’m still up the three pounds, but might have been back down in the morning, not sure. In any case, I’m not up ten or wherever my imagination was running to, though I do worry about being hungry all the time and craving snacks more than I used to. Over Labor Day, I turned another milestone of sorts, as I know I started dieting before then but probably wasn’t very consistent or serious about it till about then in 2006, so it’s kind of the ‘start’ point for me unofficially.

Did the 7pm class tonight (Thursday) plus the strength portion of the 5:30pm class. Not terribly energized but felt strong. Hopefully I’ll be fresh for my double load on Saturday morning. And I might head somewhere on Saturday afternoon where I’ll do lots of walking, either the beach or St. Augustine or someplace. It’s still awfully hot here, but more bearable.

Saturday, September 13: pretty active day. Double Jazzercise class in the morning, and I didn’t hold back at all in either, used 8lb weights too. Then in the afternoon I drove up to Fernandina Beach and walked around. It’s smaller than St. Augustine and a bit less interesting, plus I somehow forgot my iPod, but I got some footwork in. Walked a bit later also. Eating definitely more under control too. My weight is inching back down but I think it’ll be a while till I get to a new “low”—I have three more to get to the old “low.”

You’ll get back there, Ann. You know little trips up the scale aren’t permanent, that knowledge is very powerful.

You’re still doing great! Heat and all! (It was 94 here today, blech.)

Thanks, Bree! Yeah, I know it’ll take time.

Today, walked on the beach for a while before lying down to sun myself, with occasional dips in the water to cool off. Ate an early dinner, then hit the gym. The usual, treadmill warm-up for 1 mile, then back extension, rowing, then work with hand weights involving shoulders, chest, biceps, triceps, delts. Then 30 min elliptical.  Seemed like forever with the toe cramps and all, but made it through.

Monday, Sept 15: showed up in time for most of the 5:30 Jazzercise class, but it was hard to jump in on a number that I hadn’t done very often and was at the top of the curve, so I did only a few items. Plus, it was HOT in there. Man alive it’s still hot for mid-September! Then there was only one person for Personal Touch, the small-group personal training that focuses on building lean muscle, so I was asked to join. Bad timing, as I’m still really sore from my upper body workout from last night. I did a little, with mild groaning and what I hoped were witty and not pitiful excuses ("Hey, is that DUST on the floor? I really should be sweeping instead") then did the full 7pm class. I always tend to overdo the chest exercises and then my entire upper body is sore. Still not sure about 5:30 am tomorrow. Part of me wants to do it and part of me will want to sleep in, and not have to rebuild energy for the 7p class tomorrow too. Hmm.
