Right, onto business! It’s Sunday night and I’m evaluating how I’ve done. Let me start by saying we went to London this week because my boyfriend officially became a barrister! It was all very exciting, but obviously caused me to slip a little bit - the food was too good to resist!

I haven’t done any exercise this week, which is a bit disappointing, BUT, I went for a run 3 times like I wanted to, and have done my 60 sit ups 4 times this week - more gooder than badder!

And ok, I ate 2 three course meals, but it was all organic, good food, with lots of fruit and vegetables, which is great. We also had a mini taekwondo practice in the garden smile

But the BEST thing is that I got a car! My own teeny tiny little old car, which doesn’t even have power steering, but now I can go where I want when I want to, which is the best feeling ever! My boyfriend is going to Spain on Tuesday, and normally I’d be too scared to get the bus to streetdance because he couldn’t meet me at the bus stop (bad neighbourhood), but now… I can drive there!

Also, we got a trampoline, yay - 12 foot, so huge! We just have to build it, I can’t wait! And we’ve found a tennis club around the corner where membership is only 35 pound a year (that’s like 50 bucks!), so I’m hunting around for cheap tennis rackets - no idea how to play tennis but it’ll be fun!

So all in all it’s been a great week, although the dissertation is in a bad bad place, but I know it’ll get finished in the end!

Hope you’re all well!

Some goods and some bads today, but the good definitely outweigh the bad.

The good is that I talked to a lady today who organizes dance performances and she’s letting me choreograph my own routine to perform in two weeks! Scary and difficult, but exciting!
I also did my run this morning and my exercise class, which is good.

The bad is that my boyfriend has just left for Valencia. I knew that in advance, and he’s only gone for 3 days, but this is where the dependency kicks in. I’m absolutely terrified, hence why I’m awake and writing this at 3.15am. I have my book to read and my iPod and lots of work to do, but something just tightened in my chest as soon as he left. It’s not nice for him either because he hates to see me upset and he wants to enjoy his trip. I’m really trying, and I want to get over this so I can actually be on my own for once and get some sleep.

But before I do that, I WILL do my sit ups (*little smile)

Hi Nienke,

Great job in keeping those runs going.... and congrats on the new car!

It’s great to hear that you are going to run the World Wide Half

http://www.worldwidehalf.com/cgi-bin/wwhalf/home

To tell you the truth, even though I’ve been doing a few triathlons, I am NOT a runner, but I keep doing it, hoping to get better.  I ran the worldwidehalf last year, and had a BLAST listening to the podcast for it called “cheers from the world!”

Exciting news about the dancing too!  how cool is THAT!

and with the new tennis memembership, i guess we will see you at Wimbelton soon!

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

To tri is to risk failure, not to tri is to guarantee it!

Well, I have to admit I haven’t started the running yet, BUT I went to a taekwondo session on Saturday and it was the best exercise I’ve had in a long time. I really pushed myself and had a lot of fun. This morning - could it be a coincidence? - I went to put on my bra (I only have one that fits) which usually hooks into the loosest little thingies, but today it hooked into the tightest ones! Does that make any sense? I guess it will to all the ladies anyway. I may have allowed myself a little treat after that happy surprise.

Apart from that, not much has happened, as my dissertation has now taken over my life, literally. I can’t sleep because I’m so scared I won’t be able to finish it in time. Last night I went to bed, couldn’t sleep, and got up at 3am to work for another 2 hours, with no real progress to show for it. I know I’ll finish it, but my adrenaline-wired body won’t listen to me, so sleeping isn’t an option just yet. Well, I’d better get back to work!

Keep your fingers crossed for me (though you might need your fingers in the next 2 weeks, maybe cross your toes instead?)

Deep breath, you’ll do fine. You have time to start the running, and it will help you think better (I promise). Have fun with it, you’ll get everything you want.

Deep breaths are being taken smile I will start running tomorrow morning and I will stop staying up until 5am doing work.

I did two streetdance classes today and it made me feel much better.

Thanks Bree!

Well, things have been just a little crazy! As soon as I’d printed off the training sheet, I started moving! Having something to put a tick on every day makes me get out of bed and go for that run - I went out running in the pouring rain TWICE! The only little blip was that I thought I’d done 1.5 miles but it was only 1.3 when I looked it up, but it’s a start!

On the dissertation front, there has been some mild panic, BUT I’m on 11000 words (out of 16000), so now all I need to do is write chapter 2 and write my conclusion. Today I had a little break and wrote my bibliography, my abstract, my acknowlegdements and my ‘about the author’ bit. Tomorrow it’s back to work, because I need to finish it by next Tuesday at the latest! Cue the panic - no, it’s going to be ok! I hope…

Yesterday we went to my boyfriend’s parents’ house for dinner, which was nice, oh, and another big thing I nearly forgot! On Friday we went to see Liverpool versus Lazio football (soccer) as a little celebration because Jamie passed his barrister exams, and his parents surprised us: We were in a box! It was so much fun, and the view was fantastic, it was a real party. And at the end, we stayed for a few drinks after the match and I saw my favourite player walk over the pitch towards the exit, so I ran down the stairs like a crazy woman and got outside just in time and he signed my shirt!!!

Gotta get back to work now, just thought I’d share all that :D

That’s all so exciting, Nienke!

Great job on the running, and the dissertation. You’re progress is wonderful, and you’ll accomplish both goals soon!

And very cool on the football player signing your shirt.

Hope you have another great week!!!

When I see people running past my house (regardless of the time of day, or the size of the person), I always think the same thing—that its wonderful, and I look forward to my next run. We tend to think others focus on our flaws, but they are just hoping we don’t see theirs, and find the best things in us to focus on.

Bree

Hi Bree,

You are so right. I have never looked at someone and thought they look stupid, and yet I have assumed that they would do that to me. Bree, I may take myself on that run yet. In fact, I will.

So, it’s been a LONG time!

I had a really bad week going to see my family, it was nice to see them, but my dad sort of ruined it for me when he told me that what my mom had told me was my birthday present (going to see les Miserables musical) was actually a graduation present for my sister which just happened to be on my birthday. And then I spent another week after that feeling sorry for myself, which is completely stupid.

BUT then I had laser eye surgery! Which was scary, although not painful, and at first I wasn’t too happy, because I’d been wearing day&night;contact lenses for so long that I didn’t see how it had improved my life, until today. Today was my first day without drops, and suddenly my eyes feel like my eyes but without the heaviness of contact lenses! AND I can see better than I could with glasses and lenses! So today I finally appreciate the amazing thing that’s happened to me: I can see!!

Now that this message is positive I’ll just keep going: I’ve handed in my dissertation. I wasn’t completely happy with it, but it’s done! Stress gone!

And there’s more! On Monday I started my teacher training course :D I’m so excited and it’s been really fantastic and the people are so lovely! It’s also the first time I feel like I’ve made friends straight away. AND because of the laser surgery, I’m not allowed to wear make up for now, which is strangely liberating when you get used to it! Only a week and a half until I’m on my first school placement, I can’t wait!

Now I don’t want to end on a bad note, but the laser surgery also means I can’t do exercise, and somehow that has led to my diet suddenly changing to “all-you-can-eat-and-nothing-healthy”! I’m trying to change that around, and started doing my daily sit ups again last night, so I’ll try to keep that up. Also, my boyfriend, Jamie, is taking part in a charity 5K walk in a couple of weeks, so I will be doing that with him. Two weeks now until I can exercise again (because I can’t get sweat or water in my eyes yet), any suggestions? Healthy and quick recipes are very welcome too!

If you’ve read all the way to the end, you’re an amazing person! Thank you!
