Hi Guys,
I have been lurking for almost a year now (which seems fairly common for those of us that keep persisting) and enjoying the support from Scott’s optimistic personality.
I am 6 foot and 167 pounds. I am 42 (almost 43) years old. I need to build some muscle tone and fitness.
I have always tried to maintain a good diet of low fat (almost no sugar), lots of vegetables and grains - but my diet has always been a BIG one. Over the years everyone I know has been amazed at how much I can eat and not put on lots of weight.
However - I have still managed to put on 26 Lbs over the last ten years which I am not happy about.
The biggest issue to me is that I used to be fit and healthy with a good muscle tone and now I am no longer really fit and have just about lost all of my muscle tone.
Over the last year after - hitting the point that Scott describes (accurately) as the “click” I personally hit a mental point (of 42 years old) where I had a set point in my mind that I would get fit…
Over the last year I have increased my activity level by primarily walking (after buying a pedometer) 12000 -14000 steps a day on average. As a result I have lost 15 Lbs.
I still have not built back my lean muscle mass that I used to have, but I am currently bordering on diving back in to hit this.
I have over the last 6 months added in 1 - 2 cycling trips to work of approximately 45 minutes each way over the last 6 months (ie 2 x 45 mins of cycling a trip).
One thing that I have noticed is that I have hit a plateau - primarily I have been doing cardio but have not hit weights yet. AND I do know from experience how much this will change things.
Due to life struggles with a wife and two children - I have been working on fitness, but really need to find the next “click” to get motivated again to get back into doing weight training again.
I am now struggling at reducing my current weight and need to really inspire myself to get back into weight training to get what I really want to achieve.
My Goal is:
“by the 13th October 2008 - to weigh the same as/ and be as fit as, when I got married to my wonderful wife !!!”
This is a big ask for me to lose 11 lbs in 5 weeks - but it was my starting/driving goal and I am pretty close .....
Anyway, at the end of the day - I am enjoying life like I used to, so this is always a good thing - even if I don’t hit my goal.
BUT - I am going to give it a big shot !!!.
Cheers
Mark
