I have exciting news. I measured my omentum today and it is 34.25 inches down from 42 inches over the past 4 months.  This measurement means the most to me since it is indicative of the fat that is between my organs and effects my health the most.

Measure your waist at the level of your belly button and pull in your mid section as much as possible...yes suck it in tight because you are not measuring the subcutaneous fat directly under your skin. You are taking a measure of that fat that lays deep inside. It should be half of your height in inches.

Today was a good day. I got my 10,000 steps in and a little bit extra, did my TM and worked an 8 hour shift on the floor. Work has been a happy place to be lately. I’m staying on track and feeling stronger by the day. I’m excited by the future.

Thanks for the support Tom and Roder.....always appreciated.

That’s great news Denise!!  I read about the omentum in You! On a Diet.  I’m going to measure mine as soon as I can find my tape measure.

You are doing so great.  You are inspiring me.

Today I got up and jumped on the scale. OK picture this. Arms raised above my head doing the Rocky Dance.  Can you hear the music?  Yeahhhh. I’m down another 2.5 pounds.

That’s a total of 18 pounds down since starting the MASTERMIND on July 1. It has helped me to focus, and things just started clicking. It seems the more excited I get about it the more I put into it and Bingo...the more I’m getting out of it. The Law of Attraction is a beautiful thing.

I know all simple concepts. Why is it sometimes it’s the most simple things that take us the longest to tune into. I’ve got my pedometer on and I’m off to climb the mountain road I live on before going to work so I will get my 10,000 steps in.

I just wanted to mention a great book I’m reading right now about the Law of Attraction. It is number one on the NY Times bestsellers list, by Esther and Jerry Hicks titled MONEY AND THE LAW OF ATTRACTION. Though it is so much more than just being about money. It’s just I’ve read all of the rest of their books and this is the newest one. All of their books are really helpful and make so much sense to me. The light bulb has gone on in the closet sort of moment if you know what I mean.

Thanks Eileen, that mountain peak is getting closer everyday. Let’s do this!

Just for fun… http://piurl.com/Q4t

Have a great day.....Denise smile

Friday...I did my LSB for 60 minutes climbed the mountain road outside and finished up on the treadmill. I did a total of just about 15,000 steps today. Work was so busy. In an 8 hour shift I never sat down once except to start an IV or call report but that is hardly a rest, it only takes minutes. Even on my break I had to climb to the fourth floor of the parking structure to move my car closer since parking was a nightmare when I got there.

I saw my doctor yesterday and she was very happy with my progress.

Thanks Jeff...I’m always afraid to get on the scale but I could feel the weight loss, so I dared to check it out. My feet and back don’t hurt anymore. It’s amazing how 18 pounds can make such a difference. I knew once I stopped overeating at night it would come right off.

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

I set my iPod alarm to go off to the Rocky theme! Nothing will get you out of bed like that will.

I’m getting a big kick out of the video links. You always find ways to keep us entertained and smiling!

Bree mentioned housework and got me to thinking.  I’m not a particularly anal person but until Scott made us look at our values in the teleseminar and actually list them I hadn’t realized how much I prize organization and balance. You do walk taller and stand straighter because you shed a weight that hangs there and revisits you each time you walk into another room in disarray.

You’ve got me motivated Bree. I’ve been saying I’m going to go through my closets and organize...just another word for send to the Goodwill the things that have been lurking in there since the ohhh.... I’d say the 80’s and maybe even one or two that go back to the 70’s. Yikes! I cringe every time I go in there, I might even have more clothes that fit me if I only take stock.

So that will be my task for this week, that and changing the light bulb on the hall ceiling. I’ve had the ladder there ready to do it for over 2 weeks now, so what is the hold up, ugh? What does this say about my ability to get the job done? Perhaps when I trip and do a face plant at the bottom of the stairs, or stub my toes grrr  on the ladder laying there in wait, I will see the value in taking action in a good amount of time.

Hey Bree in response to your comment above....It’s how I’m keeping myself motivated, and it’s working for me. I’m glad to hear it’s helpful for someone else too. This MASTERMIND program has really put things in perspective and it’s really moving me towards my goal. I know it’s because I’m working it to the best of my ability, and staying focused. When I think I almost didn’t do it. I picked up some extra shifts at the hospital to pay for it. Where there is a will there is a way.

That last video reminded me of our nursing team. I can picture us doing something like that if it would only slow down long enough to do it. You have to have a sense of humor in the ER. It’s the best way to relieve the tension. You just have to be discrete about it because patients and families don’t always understand what is so funny in a crisis situation.

It’s sort of like wanting to laugh out loud when you are in church. Can you just imagine all of the faces turning around and looking at you with piercing eyes of disgust when you let a good roar rip during the sermon.....oh my.  Maybe they would send more prayers your way and that can’t be bad.....hmmmm.

Ohhhh I did it...over 10,000 steps, it’s hot as Hades and they haven’t called me for work. It’s all about the pedometer Nancy. I can’t say no to it, like Joi and Adam to their pushups. It is working for me like no tool yet.

Ahhh so now I have earned myself a glass of wine and I’ve lit all the candles on the deck. I just set up a playlist of my favorite songs and I’m going to partake in a bit of the nectar of the Grapes. It was so hot today I took the day off but that part of me that needs to compete with myself took over, and the pedometer brought me home....LOL.

Denise smile

Now I’ll do a little dancing as I play my music. Feel the future and the wine wink , imagine it, know it is there for the taking. I’m excited about a new wardrobe too. I’ve started a direct deposit account named “New Wardrobe” so when the time comes I can go wild. I’m already looking through catalogs.  Keep on moving.

Good Morning.....Well it’s another day in Hades hitting the 90’s already. Now you have to understand that when you live along the coast it is a good 15 to 20 degrees cooler than living in the valley. I’m spoiled and used to the 70’s. On Friday it was 97 in the valley all day and when I got home to the mountains it was 58 degrees. That’s a 40 degree difference. Even as I type it strikes me as unbelievable but there you have it. The hospital is only 35 miles away from my home.

I was so proud of myself last night getting on that treadmill and doing 60 minutes of a LSB...and it was the longest, slowest burn I’ve ever done. I feel better for it this morning too. I’m on call again but so far all is quiet on the western front.

Tom...I like sweet wine and if you are any kind of a connoisseur you will probably laugh at my choice. I actually liked the taste of Strawberry Hill when I was younger. They tease me about that one all of the time. I recently found out it is not even a wine at all. It’s in the malt liquor category.

For many years I didn’t drink at all then a friend had me try a glass of wine, a Petite Shirah. I drank it but it tasted like paint to me. Enough of that. Then I picked up a Gewürztraminer and I really enjoyed the sweetness of it. So if I’m going to have a glass of white wine, that is the one. I wish it could be sweet and red since red wine has those beneficial health properties, so if you can name a sweet wine that is red I would really appreciate it.

I’m going to put that out to the group. Any ideas on a sweet red wine or does it not exist?

E & J Gallo’s White Zinfandel is a classic ... really a rose...but a good blend, sweet, but not too sweet

I like the sweet stuff too. Try Lambrusco, it’s super yummy! I also like the White Zinfandel.

Well it was one of those crazy craving days yesterday and though I put a curb on it like ordering the broccoli beef instead of the mayo and fat laden walnuts and prawns when I called for Chinese food (who was that person that chimed in with the healthier choice at the last second, certainly not the person who called the restaurant).

What followed was not OK though and I won’t go into it but I had to look at what was going on. I was hot and tired. I had been missing my yoga stretches and core work for the past 2 days and doing mostly cardio. My back was in pain and that gnaws away at my reserve. I hadn’t done my morning homework and meditation.....jeez I was falling off the plan big time.

It will be OK I just have to tighten things up. I’m back to my written plan because I know it’s what works. I did want to write down my trials and tribulations as well as my highs since it’s all part of the journey. In the past ....once I fell off of the wagon like this I would keep on going for days or even a week before I looked at what I was doing to myself. There has been progress in that dept.

I suppose success can be different to all of us....it’s all in the perspective.

Well I took myself to a beautiful place today, and drove down to Big Sur to ponder the universe and get back on track. I listened to all my MTM shows for this week and absorbed the magic that is the coastline of Big Sur. I brought my lunch and water so I wouldn’t end up eating at a restaurant where I would end up chowing down on the forsaken bits I’ve chosen to steer clear of.

When I got home I had not done my 10K steps so I jumped on the treadmill for 35 minutes....mmmm feeling hungry, and just don’t want to do it anymore, have you ever just not wanted to take even one more step? I mean really...I couldn’t even force myself to do it. So I stopped it, parked it, but left the numbers on, no I didn’t leave the belt going to rack up the minutes, miles and calories though it did cross my mind. I stopped and ate, partook (is that even a word) in some water and a beverage of my favorite Diet A&W;Root Beer. I try not to drink more than one a day. I sat down and watched about 30 minutes of TV and felt totally revived.

OK back to the treadmill, because there is no way I’m not going to get my 10K steps in. I have been cursed with pedometer madness. I finished the night with a total of 85 minutes done between the two sessions, and I did 12077 steps today. How do I feel.... well I feel like I’m sure glad I got back on that treadmill and finished ahead of the game. So be kind to yourself and tweak your plan. You just might be tired and need some water or a bit of glucose for the brain and muscles.

Have a great day....Denise wink

Another day, and I’m faced with another mountain of 10K steps on my pedometer to accomplish. It zeros out at midnight. It’s so sad to see those little numbers on the LED screen disappear and go back to zero. There is just something soooo wrong about it. At least there is that mode that I can flip back and see the numbers for the past 7 days. Ahhh sweet justice.

I have to tell you about Oatmeal, the long cooking kind. I know you have all read the studies about cholesterol and how it helps well if you are like me seeing is believing. My 83 year old mom is one of those people the doctors love, totally compliant of meds, and writes everything down to watch the trends of her care. She always wanted to be a nurse, but back in those days the kids turned 16 and went to work to help get the family through the depression. I’m rambling.

Well mom eats all the right foods and is very careful of her weight yet her cholesterol continues to be a problem unless she takes meds for it. She loathes taking any kind of meds if she doesn’t have to. Well she jumped on the band-wagon and started eating oatmeal every day for breakfast. The doctor had tested her blood before she started, and again 30 days after. Her cholesterol was down a whopping 49 points. Since it’s my mom and therefore in my eyes a somewhat controlled study because she told me what she did and I believe her; I figure I’ll eat my oatmeal everyday or at least every other day to keep my pipes as clean as a whistle. So far cholesterol hasn’t been a problem for me yet I know it is an inherited trait. Better to be safe than sorry.

I’ll never forget the day I was starting an IV and drawing blood on a person with hyperlipidemia (high cholesterol) that was having active chest pain. There were actual chunks of lipids floating on the top of the specimen in the tube hmmm . The patient asked the cardiologist if that was caused by the donut they had for breakfast and he very kindly answered no sir it’s from the many donuts you have been eating throughout your lifetime. Not a pretty site. I’m going to get a bowl of my oatmeal right now and off for a walk up the mountain.

We had rain last night for the first time since May....Exciting in drought conditions.

Denise

Wow Denise! I just caught up on your thread. It is very profound (SP?). You are doing amazing things. It sounds like the mastermind program has been very beneficial.

That last story about the visible fat in the blood sample is a real eye opener!! It was good that the doc was honest - hopefully the patient “heard” what the doc was saying.

My trainer “prescribed” my breakfast every day of oatmeal, egg white omelet and 1/2 grapefruit. I’ve been doing that for sevral months now .... and I miss it if I don’t have it. Though occasionally I stray if I am in a real hurry or I just crave some toast and jam. I’ve done some research over the summer and came across an article of instant oats vs. steel cut (slow cook) oats. It basically said the quick oats were just as good as far as health benefits go, but the steel cut had better flavour. I stick with the quick oats for ease of morning prep, with a bit of honey and cinnamon. mmmm.

Denise, I just enjoyed reading your posts. I definitely enjoyed the links and attachments. I know what you mean about doing this for the 4th time around. I decided quite some time ago just to post as often as possible and stop counting days.

Your goal of the mountain climb sounds like fun.

Thanks girls...It’s how I’m keeping myself motivated and on track.

Bree...My goal for this week from the list. I finally got that light bulb changed, and I hung a Tapestry that arrived from eBay about a month ago. Those little projects that keep annoying me because I choose to put them off. Now I’m getting ready to tackle the biggest one of all. My clothes closet. I’ve got to make room for my future.
