120 Day Fitness Challenge- Finishing 2008 with a bang!
Well- its been a rough road since I completed my last challenge. I went on a wonderful relaxing vacation with family and friends and when I came back I had a very difficult time re-discovering “the click”. Then I strained muscles in my back moving the furiniture in my classroom. Honestly I lost the motivation to exercise. I kind of kept to decent diet so I only gained 4 lbs from vacation and the weeks after.
Today was the first day of school in a new grade and new classroom, so what a better time to “rediscover the click” with all these changes.
There are 120 days left in 2008, so I want to finish the year being in the best shape I have been a long time.
I rowed for the first time since I injured my tailbone ice skating with my son in July and injuring my back. WOW!!!! My time was soooo slow and my heartrate was pumping, which made me slow down even more, but I got it done.
Anyhow I sit here typing this hoping to convince myself that I can get this done. I am the kind of person who needs to schedule in my workout time or it is not going to get done. It is going to be challenge with the first few weeks of the school year being so busy.
Wow life got in the way today.. Late day at work putting out with meeting and putting out fires all day, then off to the 2nd job which ran later than usual, then put the kids to bed while the wife is off taking care of the grandmother.
I am embarrassed to say that I did not exercise today. I am not happy about that. The good thing about it is, tommorrow is a new day!
Well—NFL started their season today. I have season tickets for the Buffalo Bills. Today was the home opener. I did a pretty decent job at the tailgate party with my snacking. The game was great. The Bills won.
So- No exercise today and probably not any Sunday the Bills playing home.
Well since you asked Bree- I checked my exercise log and today was my first day of resistance since end of July. Injuries and vacation have slowed me down.
Chest/Back:
incline press 3x12, 1x10
bench 3x12
flies 2x10 these were tough
single arm row 3x12
lying row 3x12
Cardio: 45 minutes of rowing.
I’ll have the Advil ready for tomorrow. I am going to feel it
Day 7: Extra long day at work and a curriculum night assembly for the parents derailed any opportunity for exercise. A lot of work for nothing as 3 families out 17 attended.
This challenge is definitely not going as well as the first one. It has been difficult to remain consistant. The “click” is not 100% there and work and family obligations are getting me down. anyhow.
The weekend was filled with plenty of activity, but did not get on the rower.
Day 11 & 12 weekend activities- on a positive note I ate well and have not gained any weight.
Day 13 ( Monday) Another fresh start?
Resistance: Back/Chest 3 sets of each exercise of my usual workout- It felt good. I helped that my Ipod was cranking up with the new Metallica album. Yeah I still live in the “80s at times.
Cardio- 45 minutes on the rower. It is amazing how much my fitness level has dropped without the consistency of using the rower.
Thanks for asking, Joan. I think that there are 2 factors affecting my 2nd challenge. The first one is I have a new position at work. September/October are very busy times. Getting familiar with new curriculums, students and all the meetings that go with that have extended my work day to include having to work at home well into the evening. When I do get a few minutes it seems like there are other life chores. The 2nd factor is that during my first challenge I highly motivated. Mother had just her battle with cancer and exercising helped me deal with the grieving process. I also had gotten really over weight. Both these factors kept me going strong.
During my first challenge I posted everyday and pretty much went 100 consectitive days of exercise. It is frustrating to me that this time around is not as successful. I tend to be an all or nothing person. I try to plan my exercise in advance and already wondering how I am going to get Wednesday and Thursday in do to work and family committments.
Time to stop rambling- the kids are breathing down my neck to get going.
Wow! I have been so busy. I have a few “quiet” minutes to catch up.
Day 15: 45 minutes on the rower. My abs were feeling the effects a workout that was long time in coming
Day 16: Thursdays are a rough day. I think two weeks to go with the volunteer committment.
Day 17: Got home late from work and decided to sit down and play in a quick poker tournament. Well come to find out that tournament lasted 5 hours. At least I won some $.
Day 18: 60 minutes on the rower.
I already know Sunday will be difficult. I need to take my son to hockey practice at 7:30 and then I am heading to Buffalo to watch the Bills play the Raiders.. Go Bills!! I’ll have to take it easy at the tailgate party.
Day 19: Went to the Bills game. What a great game as the Bills won on a last second kick. On the way home I did something that I have not done in a very, very long time- went to Mcdonalds and had a quarter pounder with cheese and french fries. Of course they tasted awesome, but boy did I feel like crap a few hours later and the stomach carried through the next day. The golden arches got me good.
Day 20: Monday- 45 minutes on the rower. It was an awful long slow burn. I was feeling the effects of a restless night sleep, bad fod, and a few too many drinks at the tailgate party. As Scott would say I didn’t do my homework and planned poorly. Got it in though.. No resistance training.
Day 21: Tuesday- 45 minutes on the rower- much more of a normal row
Day 22: Wednesday- A very long day. Didn’t start my workout until I finished a nice 12 hour work day around 8:00. I listened to The Motivation To Move show from earlier in the month. It got me through until the final ten minutes or so then I cranked up the Ipod with some of the new songs I downloaded. After a quick shower, its back to work and need to prepare a NY state history lesson and correct a bit.
I feel like I am not giving my 2nd challenge 100%. I haven’t been consistent recording my food journal on thedailyplate.com. i have been maintaining my weight, so I guess that is a good thing.
I am already stressing because I don’t know where I am going to fit in the time to get in the cardio on Thursday. I am one of those kind of people that needs to map out the whole week ir things aren’t going to get done. If I do get it in it is going to be later than I would prefer to exercise.
Wow- All the way on page 2… Guess that means I need to get back into the habit of reporting my workouts.
Day 23: Thursday- 45 minutes on the rower
Day 24,25,26- The “lost weekend” Early hockey practices and soccer games and tryouts wipe the life out of me. I spent Saturday and Sunday ( before the Bills game) at work trying to get my act together.
Day 27: Monday and another fresh start- UGG My workout was awful. I feel my fitness level slipping as my workouts have not been consistent. 45 minutes on the rower. It was like rowing in quicksand.
Day 28: Tuesday- Well its 7:00 and I am just getting back from work and running errands. At this point I need to decide on rowing or eating dinner. The click is missing at this point and I am probably going to choose dinner as I am very hungry and then relax for a few.
