I have continued with my 100 days but what I realize is that I’ve done it so many times it is part of my life now. So as I continue I want to consolidate the threads that I add to.  I’ve decided to add in my personal growth from my Mastermind journal as I continue to move. My goal as you will read is to climb Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire next year in the fall.

This is my plan for success as I grow in the Mastermind and here with all of you and continue to move everyday.

8/16/08 from my MASTERMIND JOURNAL

When Scott went Premium in 2006 I was so excited to join I remember the first time it didn’t go through on the computer and I was worried that I wasn’t accepted for some reason. How silly when I think of it. Of course it was also when Sheryl received her diagnosis and the family was quite busy. I held on and listened through all of it. Scott sold his home and took her to the Amazon rain forest for treatment, and for her birthday in October. She was able to take a trip out into the forest because she was feeling a bit stronger on her birthday. I can only imagine how important this was for someone who was a Reiki healer.

The podcasts were filled with raw emotion and he never stopped trying to make it happen for all of us and most of all for Sheryl and his family.  I knew I had met an extraordinary human being in Scott, and I was living through an incredibly personal time in his life. I wasn’t going to let go of him or MTM for anything, though I had moments of self doubt that made me want to run from what the truth of his message is but I worked through it and stuck around. I still have my ups and downs and life does get in the way but I never stop trying. I always get up and do my homework and though I may falter I never ever get up and say chuck it for today.

There is a very definite plan I review everyday. These are the things that make it work. I realize balance is one of my primary values and this list speaks to that part of me:

1. Meditation

2. Yoga stretches keep my back stable

3. Sit ups or core work

4. 45 to 60 minutes of LSB or some form of sustained exercise and/or weights

5. Food Journal

6. Water

7. Vitamins

This is my recipe for success.

I just had a 10 day vacation with a good friend. Of course I was worried I would lose momentum and eat all wrong but with lots of tips from everyone on the chats I was able to hold it together and come out feeling great and stronger than ever as I move forward towards my goal. Not only that, I also found a friend who would like to climb Mount Monadnock with me. So the training begins.

8/29/08
I brought Debby to the airport today and so my official vacation is over. The first thing I did is sit down and take a serious account of my homework. After clearing out the extra room for Debby I realize it is the perfect room for a home gym. I have one wall that is mirrored by sliding glass doors to check form and watch the magical mirror melt.  I have gathered all my equipment from the many corners of my house tucked here and there and made it easily accessible so I can put a working plan together. I will set my alarm for 9am (very early for me on my schedule). I will go to bed by 1:30 to 2am instead of 3 to 3:30am so this part of the plan will work. It’s like you all getting up at 6am. I started taking inventory of what I have and I’m amazed at the stuff I’ve bought and stuck in closets and corners. I’ve kept the weight loss industry alive.

I feel on track and good about my choices and I’m excited to kick things into full gear.

How it all came together, also from 8/29/08

When I started with the Mastermind I told myself I would let thinks happen in their own time. I was sure about my goal to lose weight but the other aspects of my life I needed to work on were not as clear.

I was reading my copy of the recent Yankee Magazine today when I read an article about Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire. It is just a little over 3100 feet high but it is the second most climbed mountain in the world. Second only to Mt Fuji. Go figure and it’s not far from my hometown and family back east. I was checking out the trails and possibilities and I think with some training and the weight loss I plan I have something fun I can do, something I want to do. I’m not one to run, and I’ve been thinking of a suitable choice to push myself towards, but hiking in the mountains is right up my ally.

I would plan it for a year from this October, and I’m going to talk to Debby about doing it with me. She mentioned how she has never seen New England but would like to next fall, and this would be the best time for the fall colors. Truly a sight to behold. After spending 10 days with her I can attest to the fact that she is quite the hiker. I can see a plan formulating here. I’m beginning to see the possibilities and it’s exciting. I’m really going to lose this weight and change my life.

After a 10 day vacation I am usually beating myself up for all of the wrong choices, and instead I’m filled with ideas and rejuvenated.

Beautiful picture of Mt Monadnock.  It will be looking like that very soon.  I was surprised to hear that is so populer for climbing.  I will have to check it out.  I am next door in Vermont.  But I will definitely have to train a bit before climbing a mountain again.  I hiked Mt Mansfield(4400 ft) in the past when I was in better shape.  Now I still have problems with the hill by my house.

Sounds like Mastermind is doing good things for you.  Thank you for sharing.

Eileen....we are very close in wt and a year is a long time to get ready. You are more than welcome to join us if you decide it would fit into your future goals. Debby has been a blessing. She came to visit from Arkansas and had me laughing from start to finish. She has stirred up my world in a good way.  How exciting it would be to do it as a group.

Denise,
That would be great!  It gives me a goal to strive for and I’m sure it will be a great time.

Let me know your plans once it gets closer and meantime I will start with the hill by my house.

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

Great goal Denise! You’ve inspired me to look for a mountain closer to home to hike. I did Harney Peak in South Dakota this past summer, but that’s a heck of a drive!

Yeah Bree ...sounds like fun doesn’t it. I love getting my exercise and being happy to do it, is that possible? I’m thinking yes!

Heh there Tom. I realized I was missing the gang here at the original forum so I found a way to liven my posts up and stay in touch with my roots. My posts here were getting a bit mundane.

Here is some fun....kitties enjoy a good treadmill work out once in awhile...simply amazing! Take a look.

More from My MASTERMIND JOURNAL on 9/1/2008

Third day in a row of getting up at 9:15am and getting my program done, 55 minutes today. I’m drinking my water and taking my multiple vitamins. I have to tighten up the food journal. I vow to write it down before I eat it and when I don’t it gnaws away at me like a term paper that has to be turned in by tomorrow. Enough so that I have to get up and go write it down. I do my meditation pretty regularly, and assess my goals everyday. I’d say, I’m on track, and my value of Balance is being met. Hence my life is flowing, always a good thing to have momentum.

The ideas that I got from all of you that worked while Debby was here and we were vacationing, are eating lighter throughout the day so I could have a larger dinner when we went out. Thank you Joi.

Finding more places to hike and do things that kept us active. Thank you Julie.

We planned hikes and rest days in advance to get the most out of our time, thanks Scott.

Most exciting of all, we decided to have a joint goal of climbing Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire next year. A vacation couldn’t have turned out better. I actually feel invigorated instead of tired.

Back to today:
I’m thankful for all that I have. Life is good and I’m feeling stronger, so I know that when I am faced with the hard things in life, and we all know that they are out there, I will have more of the tools necessary to get through them with grace and ease.

9/2/08 .....Day 4 of getting up early to do my LSB. I finally got on the scale to see if I did any damage with my 10 day vacation. Good news I stayed the same by half of a pound and with the work-out I’ve started I’ll be dropping more pounds. I feel on track.

My friend who visited lost 2 pounds so you can see that all of your ideas when implemented helped to create a successful and fun vacation. Again I thank you all.  I feel on track and stronger for having faced the challenge. I learned something about myself. I have started to create some new neuro pathways (may they become super-highways in my brain) for a positive behavior, when in the past I gave myself free license to eat everything in sight leaving me with no energy, and wasted days of what could have been an otherwise fantastic time.

I’m revisiting my SMSM program, enjoying daily hikes up the mountain, and my treadmill with a new vigor. I’m excited because now that I have my head together I can put my energy into losing the weight. I know what I want and where I’m going and that is very exciting.

just got caught up on your thread and WOW!! You are doing great.  I love the idea of hiking the mountain.

It got me thinking that maybe I should start planning now for next summer for some sort of sight seeing trip with some good hiking trails along the way… I should talk with my girlfriends now and start saving.

Catherine...sounds like a good idea. It’s always fun to have something to get excited about. I climbed Mt Lafayette in NH on the Appalachian Mountain Trail when I was younger, and it was a chore but so gratifying that I still remember every bit of it today.

I did start an account that I have a bit of money direct deposited from every paycheck so I will have the money I need to enjoy it in style, and make it a memorable time of my life. I really am excited about it.

Several people had a clear idea of their goals when they started the Mastermind. I knew I wanted to lose the weight but I wasn’t sure which goals to commit to. I didn’t want to drown in goals of every sort and spread myself too thin. This is a problem I have had in the past, and nothing gets accomplished.  Then this idea hit me like a ton of bricks. It was so right. So I’m focused on losing the weight, climbing a mountain and gathering as many people who want to meet up and do it as I can find, and if it’s only me and my best friend Debby, I’ll still be smiling and laughing all the way to the top. What a great triumph it will be to get our photo on the summit and have it as a memory forever.

Yesterday I did 81 minutes (61 minutes LSB and again in the evening for 20 minutes) of cardio, and over 12000 steps on my pedometer, worked out my upper body and core with weights. I had no back pain for the first time in forever. I know it’s because my core is tighter and stronger. I feel myself getting stronger and it’s a beautiful thing. I’m being consistent and that is the ticket.

I have to say this Omron pedometer that keeps track of 7 days of data is so helpful, and telling myself that I will do at least 10,000 steps a day, then following through on that has given me a major boost. I’m a simple gal and I like simple things and this fits that bill. I have been known to get up and jog while watching TV at 11:30pm to get the rest of my steps in on a slow day.

Thanks to Bree for setting me up with the best pedometer of the four I’ve tried, and Nancy for inspiring me to keep it up. I know Scott says it all of the time, but may I reiterate because sometimes I forget....Keep it SIMPLE and make it FUN. That is the ticket to success.

I’m off to go body boarding today and spend a few hours in the surf. I am blessed and thankful.

I will have to check out the Omron pedometer.  The one I have is not reliable.  I tried it the other day and it only showed 6 steps at 10 AM.  Now, I know I have a desk job and don’t get a lot of walking during the day but I know I did a lot more than 6!!  tongue rolleye

Did you see my earlier post saying that I think it would be great to join you on your hike?

Today....I did my walking in the surf today. It’s harder walking in the soft sand with the waves crashing and pulling against my legs. I did an hour. Unfortunately there were no waves except the ones crashing on the shores edge, and I knew this would be the best way to salvage a work-out. I keep my suit, towel and boogie board in the trunk at the ready.

I don’t know about anyone else but when I’m on track with my aforementioned plan my world just flows or clicks. I feel a great joy in everything I do. I see beauty in things I might usually miss, like the liquid silver of the blue ocean as it dazzles me. The pelicans were close to shore diving for fish and gobbling them down. They are such large birds and have to work hard for their food. The more they eat the heavier they get (hmmmm reminds me of life) and the harder it seemed for them to fly up, only to dive once again. One was sitting on the sand with a damaged wing and a woman walking her two golden retrievers had them sit quietly while she made phone calls to the animal shelter for help.  So willing to help an animal in need, if only the human race as a whole could see how beneficial a world full of concerned people willing to help could change the outcome of all that is cruel and warlike. Such a simple concept yet so difficult.

Eileen...I think it would be so much fun to meet up with you and get a group of people to train and do it together. Just imagine us at the summit where we can take a photo for Scott, Joi, Carlyn and all the gang. Maybe even an MTM banner to wave.
