I read your journal thread too - way to go getting into your goal sized jeans!! I’m so happy for you!! But don’t slow down now. You are doing awesome! You are an inspiration to me to know it is possible to get to the goal. You should post in the success stories thread!
I guess I sort of consider getting to my weight goal, about 9 pounds away, as the success story. That could take months. My arms and legs are pretty lean and muscular now—I’m just working on belly fat, thighs, tightening and toning. Unfortunately my face and finally my breasts are giving up the fat I’d rather first lose from my tummy.
I am not slowing down though… well, I did take yesterday off from the gym. It raised a red flag for me… was I that tired or getting lazy and complacent? I figure as long as the red flag went up I’m okay. I considered going tonight after Jazzercise, but realized, tomorrow I can go great guns at the gym, and I still have two classes to get through Saturday morning.
I’m glad I’m telling myself that my goal is to be in the best shape of my life by the time I’m fifty. That’s nearly five years away. That means I have time to lose and tone and tweak and maintain. From there, new goal needed.
Congrats on the goal jeans! I think I need to try Jazzersize too! Take care of that blister. I swear by a warm epsom salt soak for about 30 min. They dry right up for me!

The plus sides of Jazzercise for me, Candace, are: it’s fun (I like the dance and music aspects, the camaraderie, and the social part), and it’s not too pricy. Thus, I go instead of thinking about going.
And the blister… unfortunately it’s of the completely open variety, but it’s healing. I’ll try the epsom salts, though.
Trying to psych up for the gym tonight… I want to get my time’s worth out of it and not be too beat to do my double class tomorrow morning.
Wow, I’ve been inconsistent lately as I got busy. Inconsistent in my workouts and in writing about it.
Overslept for Jazzercise on Saturday. I think the local NPR station was off the air or something, as my clock goes off at 10 to seven every single day, yet I heard nothing. And it was fine the next day. I woke up close to 8 and made the 9:15am class only.
Yesterday was overloaded with errands and came into the office till 9:30pm to get some work out of the way before my short week before my trip. I didn’t make it to the gym.
Candace, thanks. The blister part is healing nicely, but there’s part of it where it’s cut or split and that’s not, it’s still painful and sometimes bleeds. I put a bandaid on it today but have been letting it air as much as possible.
Jazzercse at 7pm Monday (Aug 18). I was there in time to do about 15 minutes of the 5:30pm class, including the dreaded new glute routine to Donna Summer’s “Stamp Your Feet.” The floor version. The standing version is not so hard, but holding your cheeks off the floor while balancing on shoulders and marching… that’s a tough one. We did the standing version in the later class.
In the afternoon I had a bit tension muscle knot in my left shoulder blade area. I tried stretching at work, then before class, and nothing helped. About halfway through class it eased up, and a resistance routine or two with arms and shoulders really helped, when I had feared it would hurt. I think it just needed to work its way out. I’ve been stressed at work getting ready to be out. Amazing what I go through for not even three days off.
Good class-and-a-half tonight. I walked in and they were on a top-of-the-curve number, and I jumped right in. Forgot a ponytail holder, so I got good and sweaty.
After work went sweaty into Staples to buy a new keyboard. Funny thing, my computer was on but in sleep mode all night. At 4am I was awakened by a steady beeping. About ten programs and windows were open, none of which I’d done. I have no pets. I had no idea. Keyboard wouldn’t respond. I did a complete shutdown and cold reboot, thinking, oh no, virus. It would get to Windows login and keep beeping and I couldn’t type in my password.
On impulse I thought, sounds like a stuck key and unplugged the keyboard. The beeping stopped. I couldn’t find a stuck key, so I replaced the keyboard and all is well for $14.99. Whew. In case this happens to anyone else. And no, I didn’t spill anything on the keyboard.
Yeah for getting into the jeans! And isn’t it funny that sometimes the smallest of problems (like a blister) cause the most headaches? I swear a blister or a papercut are more annoying than something much larger. go figure.
Monday, August 25: 7pm Jazzercise class. Hadn’t exercised since last Tuesday though did do a ton of walking in Manhattan on both Thursday and Saturday. (Sprang for a foot massage in Chinatown. Bliss.) Feel pretty good, exhausted from getting in late last night. Fay didn’t ground me indeed, though things are still pretty wet here and it stormed heavily today again. Had lots of fun. My friends all mentioned I looked great. Ate some ‘bad’ foods but in moderation and weighed in a pound down this morning. May bounce around a bit over the next few days though. I’ll have to work to get back into the routine.
You sound like you’re doing great! I hope you enjoyed your time in Manhattan. Did you do anything special??
Nothing touristy, really, been there enough times. I looked at age-inappropriate clothing on the first day, tried on a belt at Macy’s and discovered I needed the smaller size they were out of, and visited a colleague at her office.
On Saturday we ate at Max Brenner’s Chocolate by the Bald Man, but we had tomato-feta salads first, then split a chocolate fondue thingy, and I didn’t overdo. Then walked to Chinatown and Little Italy, took the subway back up to Times Square, browsed, chatted. We were going to go to Brooklyn to the Superhero Supply Store, but didn’t have time.
Tuesday, August 26: 7p Jazzercise class, plus the strength training portion of the 5:30p class. Good stuff. Been a while since I did a full weight regimen at the gym. Tomorrow night’s the plan. I may completely tucker out by then, but so far been doing okay.
Well, I hope you made it, Catherine. Fatigue set in in the midafternoon yesterday, and I even went home early to rest. I skipped the gym, but I did need some rest after not correcting my sleep cycle after the trip.
Thursday, August 28: 7p Jazzercise class. Good one, pretty whipped in the aerobic portion. The secret: putting my behind up front. I always work harder, and it was open up there.
