Paula, I have thought of other cardio machines, but I’d have to sell my treadmill first, as I don’t have the room or money for another machine. And opinions are mixed at best as to what is good for delicate knees. I’m hoping I know better than to buy anything before I’ve had a chance to test it on my body for an extended period of time, which could only mean a gym membership, and that isn’t likely. So, I’m “stuck” with the treadmill for the foreseeable future anyway.
Joan, interesting weekend. The tall sailing ships were in Duluth this weekend, so we went - too many people for either of us, but the ships were cool. I missed my afternoon snack, and then supper was getting very late - I was hot, tired, and ready to pass out… Randy made an interesting observation. He asked what good is fat, from an evolutionary standpoint, if it won’t help you out in a situation like this? I mean, I needed energy, and I needed it now! It seems like my body could have said, “Situation critical, release fat cells 100-150 for immediate consumption, STAT!” I mean, really, what good is it carrying around extra calories, if I don’t have access to them when I need them?
So, bottom line is, I rested yesterday as I was beat, and today I woke up with a killer headache, so no movement at all today either, or my head might well have exploded!
Deb, I can’t help with the exercise equipment issues but have you tried Kashi granola bars? I try to carry one in my purse so that if I really get hungry I have something healthy to eat. If you read the labels, you’ll find that some are higher in protein than others and that they’re relatively low in sugar.
You are so completely fabulous! I was reading your journey and way to go! You’re doing great. Keep up the good work! And I am experiencing a little bit of envy. Tall ships in Duluth? Does that mean you are in the fabulous midwest? I grew up in WI and miss it sooo much during the summer, the spring, the fall and yep, even the winters. Enjoy the green for me.
Yes, Shawna, I live in Superior, Wisconsin, so a trip to Duluth is just across the bridge. I agree with you about the seasons, except for winter that is. I’d just as soon never see snow again, but both my husband and son talk about moving further north every time we have to turn on the fan in the summer! My daughter-in-law and I are on the anti-winter front, so here we stay.
Hey, Deb! I was reading back and noticed you’ve been having pain. I’m sorry to hear that, but I’m happy to hear that you’re putting you’re all into this, despite calamity.
I get these killer headaches Joan; I’ve never had them diagnosed, but I think they’re probably migraines. I got one of those on Sunday. Yesterday I just sat it out. Today I’m feeling a bit better, but drained. No moving today, the headache is lurking, ready to pounce at the first chance. Hopefully I’ll be back moving tomorrow.
I understand hurting and still moving. Major kudos to you. Have you noticed if moving helps with the aches and pains? Makes them feel better or agravates them, I mean. I have had my health issues lately and am striving for some balance. Hope your head feels better and congratulations on walking and yoga. I am impressed.
Right you are Joan, I’ve been hiding more and more lately. It’s no secret that I’m struggling. Struggling not only physically, with my aches and pains; but more emotionally, with everything else. But I keep coming back - I can’t give up...the only choice is to continue...some days I just don’t continue very good…
oh, I forgot, I get “corn” headaches, and “salt” headaches, and “I don’t know” headaches - this was one of the latter. I’m still working on it.
Sorry to hear about the headache, and especially sorry to hear about the struggles. We’ve all gone through them, and we know they’re temporary, but it doesn’t make them any more bearable. Keep moving, reading, dreaming, and posting. You’ll find your way through.
I assume you’ve googled “migraine headache triggers”? There are a number of websites . . . and quite a few common triggers. The one site I looked at didn’t mention corn or salt. Corn is in almost anything so it’s hard to avoid.
Is there anything we can do to help with the emotional struggles? I’m sending a hug your way.
One step forward is still one step forward, Deb. I can sympathize with your situation, and I think that the very fact that you’re going forward, even though it’s ( hypothetically speaking ) less today than maybe it was yesterday or tomorrow, shows that you’re still moving up; not in neutral, and definitely not in reverse, but forward moving. You’ve got this thing, and we’ve got your back!
You’re doing great, Deb. You’re keeping your goals in mind and you know that the only way you’re going is up!
Thanks for all the encouragement guys, and the hug Joan!
I’m planning on taking the third time through SMSM starting Monday, and hopefully getting a good start. Fall is in the air, and I’m getting more energy (it’s my favorite time of the year). So using as many of these cues as I can think of, I’m going to try to revive my efforts. Wish me luck - although I know you’re all behind me all the time! Thank you all for that!
