ok - where’d my energy go???

Feeling very tired today - not sure why. I hope I’m not coming down with anything. Other than headaches (which I am attributing to the rain and thunder) I feel ok.

Was very tempted to just skip a workout and count today as a rest day - but I had to go to the gym to return a movie (they rent for free!!). Since I was there I hopped on a bike but just didn’t have it in me. I peddled for 45 min, but I kept the resistance and RPM low. My HR barely broke 115. At least the stretching after felt good.

ohh… I could sooo use one.  Thanks Candy!!  My chiro focused more on my neck and shoulders today and so far I feel good despite a stormy afternoon.  I’m taking today off from the gym.  I’ll do some abs and stretching tonight and hit the gym tomorrow morning for a good workout.
I spent the afternoon shopping.  I had almost no pants that fit anymore and I am going to need some that look decent for interviews.  I got 2 pair and a blouse.  4 sizes smaller than where I started smile

Got to the gym today for a good Chest, Hams and Arms workout. Upped some of the weights. Now that I am back in a Hypertrophy phase I am enjoying lifting heavier again. But I may have to move out into the co-ed area of the gym because today I used the heaviest weights available in the women’s area for DB bench press. 30 lbs x2. But that was a challenge to get started on my own… I don’t have a spotter at the gym. I really had to pay attention to control the weights so I didn’t drop them on myself.

Another note - my low back is not happy today… very sore. Dr. A focused on my neck and shoulders yesterday because of headaches and not so much my low back - which is really why I see him. I may have to go early next week if it doesn’t settle down. Did extra stretching at the gym, but it is still quite aggravated. May have to take some robax to help it relax tonight.

Session with my trainer today - somehow I don’t find his workouts as tough as when I go it alone.  I tend to stick with my max weights on my own (a few lbs lighter on the first set only), where he works me up through the sets.  Anyway it was a good workout.  Back, Legs and Shoulders.  I followed it up with a session on the crossramp at the gym (1hr).  Home, showered, fed.  Now I’m good and tired and ready for a nap.

You’re doing great, Catherine!

It’s great that you have a chiropractor to help out. I should actually go back to mine, since he helped me a lot in the past.

And congratulations on being 4 sizes down!

Thanks Brandon. I know the chiro still helps because when I try to skip a week I get really tight in my low back despite stretching. I can get certain joints to adjust (aka crack my spine) just not the ones that really need it. I have to have him do that for me.

I just got back from a swim. I didn’t go to my actual swim practice because they were calling for thunder storms and it would have been cancelled since it is at an outdoor pool. I opted instead to go to the high school where I taught during the Parks and Rec. Lane Swim. It is such a different crowd of people. At practice I am relegated to the slow lane and usually I am really the slowest person there (there have only been 1 or 2 people that are slower than me), but tonight I was easily the fastest person in the pool.
It was a good change because I’ve been wanting to time myself doing 1 km. Tonight it took me 20:49, last time I did it it took me over 23 minutes so I’ve shaved over 2 minutes off!! I used to be able to do it under 20 minutes when I was a student, so I have a bit of work still to do.
One of the lifeguards was a past student I taught who just completed her first year of university. She commented that I looked great. (And I was just in my swim suit!) It was nice to hear again because I haven’t been hanging around with people who really know what I am doing. She was really interested in what I am doing and wanted to know the best way to lose fat. I told her weight training was a must and cardio, especially interval training, was important too, but be sure to work up to that.

Congrats on your PR Catherine!! Way COOL!

I always seem to be competetive in the pool when I swim with other people… when I was taking a masters class, there was this one gal, about my age, much smaller, that could swim MUCH faster....but mostly she just kept a good pace...it only showed when our coach asked us to do some races against the other swimmers, then she poured it on, and I had NO chance!

Good advice… cardio and intervals (so important!) and weight training to keep in shape.... yoga, or palates for flexibility too!

Thanks for keeping tabs of my swimming.  I appreciate your experience you’ve had, and the tips!

Now, lets go for under 20:00!

Well the birthday has come and I didn’t quite make my goal of getting below 200 but I am almost 40 lbs lighter than when I started so I am happy about that!! I still hope to see the 100’s soon, but it may take another month.

Thanks Tom - I was thinking that getting below 20 min may not be too hard. I did have to swim around several people (who though the fast lane was for doing breaststroke - a personal pet peve) and I did stop once briefly to un-fog my goggles. If I trim 1 sec per length then getting below 20 should be attainable.

Tuesday - Chest, Hams, and Arms day - had to skip the last set (abs) to get out of there on time for a “date” . But I did 10 min of intense stationary bike before I left the gym - promised myself I would do some ab exercises after my “date” but got poking around on some other fitness web sites and never got to it. downer

Wednesday - MID = rest day - should have done something - but it turned into a very lazy day.

Thurday - No Birthday party for me tonight .... so I went to the gym this evening and kicked my own butt (Back, Quads, and Shoulders) ... just not a good plan after a manicure and pedicure - it didn’t survive intact. I AM going to do some extra abs and some stretching before I go to sleep tonight. tongue laugh

Thanks you two! There will be a party tomorrow.. a few days late, but there will be cake and I plan to enjoy it (after a killer workout in the afternoon of course!)

Today’s workout - Warm-up (10 min ellipt) and abs then intervals on the bike - 45 sec sprint (level 12-14-13) : 1:15 recovery (level 5) times 10. I was planning on attempting 45:45 but on the second one I missed the start because I wasn’t ready so it became 1:15 recovery - it was a great workout. I was sweating buckets. Continued for another 15 minutes of LSB and was suprised that I could still peddle at level 10 keeping the RPMs and my HR up. Total cardio time 50 min (including warm ups and cool down).

Happy belated birthday! How was the party?

How are you planning to celebrate when you see 100 something on that scale?

Thanks everyone!!

Saturday - got the the gym in the afternoon and did my workout - but ran out of time for cardio - I like when my workout is at the end of my day so I don’t have to get out of there to make my next appointment

Sunday - MID = rest day - unscheduled

Today - I have to get some work done.  I have been spinning my wheels and I can’t afford to any longer.  So I am taking today off from the gym and focusing on what I need to do.

Bree - Shopping for clothes!!!

Don’t buy too many clothes since you’re going to downsize some more! But enjoy whatever you do get. There’s nothing like being able to buy more fashionable clothes that fit to lift one’s spirits; at least that’s what happened to me!
