Hope the kiities are better!  How do you hook your Ipod up to the TV?

Hey - sorry I missed this one earlier - you snuck in your post while I was writting about my day.

I got a cable from the Apple store that plugs into the docking port on your iPod and has the 3 jacks (video and 2 audio) plus a USB jack and a plug adaptor to keep it charged.  It was a bit $$ but now I have more options for watchng video podcasts.  I did get a cheap cord from a flea market a few months ago and they claimed it worked for video, but it only pluged into the earjack outlet on the iPod and ended up only working for sound.  I now take it to my trainers and plug it into his stereo and put one of my workout playlists on.

Up date on little ones:  They are all fine.  Misha and Nika are currently getting a good workout trying to catch a house fly.  The collars do not seem to be slowing them down.  Misha has gotten in trouble a few times for junping up where she shouldn’t!

Catherine,

Good news to hear your kittens are doing better. Ouch on the vet bills and the hassle you and they are going thru.

I didn’t realize that you are hooking your ipod up to the TV. Now that sounds interesting.  Did you get this all at the apple store. We have one here and I just may need to take a trip there. Anything special I should ask?

Yeah on losing your weight. You are doing super with your workouts too!

You are doing great Catherine!!! Congratulations on the 35# gone so far, that is wonderful!!!

Sorry to hear about the cats, “she” is lucky it wasn’t me, there would’ve had to be a hospital bill involved too. (Well, maybe not, but it would have been tempting.)

Thanks everyone!! I am happy with the movement on the scale this week. It has come almost all at once! Maybe that interval session last week did have a serious EPOC effect!!

Confession - I did not go out for that walk that I promised I would yesterday. I started to get another headache so I went to bed early in the evening for a nap, but that didn’t seem to work and it was worse after so I opted to try my migraine med for the second time. It did it’s job and cleared my head, but I was up most of the night because of the nap. Today I feel great.

Bree - Ya, I was pretty upset with “her” but she admitted her mistake and was pretty apologetic. And she has covered the vet bill. It will be a bit more $$ to get the stitch removed, but the worst of it is over. I will take both of my little girls in on Friday - they are close to needing their shots for the year anyway.
I am thinking Misha is still not getting enough food. She is getting gaunt in the hind quarters so I am now giving her a separate bowl and making sure the other cats don’t infringe on her food.

Today’s workout - I just completed another good interval training session at the gym. Warmed up on the bike for 10 minutes and was surprised at how much energy I had to get my heart rate up - I had the resistance set a bit higher than normal and I was still keeping the RPM’s up. Stretched a bit then moved out to the co-ed area to use a crossramp (the music was too loud and rather annoying in the women’s area even with my earphones in!) I did 12 intervals total. First 5 were 40 seconds as fast as I could go, followed by 50 seconds of recovery, the last 7 were 30 fast, 60 seconds recovery. Today I didn’t play with the ramp level as much. I started off at level 10 went up to 14 for a few intervals, then back down to 12 and stayed there. Interval training time : 18 minutes. Again that was enough. I had no time constrictions today so I stayed on and completed another 32 minutes of LSB for a total time of 1 hr. Then went into the studio and had another really good lower body stretch. Overall I feel pretty good!!

One advantage of getting behind on someone’s thread is reading about a difficulty and finding out immediately that it’s resolved.

I’m sorry about the cats and glad to read they’re ok.

Your 35# weight loss is fantastic. And so is leg pressing 190# even if it is 10# down from what you did before. I haven’t tried to push for those kinds of numbers because I’ve always been worried about my knee but after doing much deeper squats today, maybe I’ll try higher weights on the leg press. You’re inspiring me to push harder.

Thanks everyone. I am really happy with my progress this week. I got on the scale this morning and was shocked. I was down another 2 lbs. I confirmed it by using the fancy scale at the gym later today. That makes 4 lbs gone in 5 days!! Now lets just see if it says gone.

On the downside I keep getting headachs this week. Tonight makes 3 nights in a row. I had been doing really well in the last few months and not had that many. I guess it is just catching up. I’ve been eating and sleeping well and it is not due to hormones right now - the only thing left is the weather. I think it is related to all the rain/thunderstorms we’ve been having.

I had another good session at the gym again today. Warmed up with 10 minutes on the bike. I started Program 5 - Strength & Hypertrophy Phase #1. and completed a Day 1 - Chest, Hams, and Arms workout. Followed by another 30 minutes on the bike.

Here’s the outline of my new Program.

Yeah on your weightloss Catherine.
OMG, sounds like a tough workout schedule. Doing good.

Did download the yoga journal podcasts last night. Did the abs. Jason is good, a nice even flow class. Liked it.
Thanks for the info.

Thanks Shawn - I really appreciate your constant encouragement. smile

No problem Josie - I thought you would like them. I haven’t tried the Abs one yet, but I’ve done Chaz’s Ab routine a few times - it is tough.
The one other video podcast that I like is for pilates. Pilates on Fifth. They mostly release short podcasts demonstrating a specific exercise. I view those then delete them, but they do have half a dozen longer ones (about 10 min with one 30 min routine) giving a short workout. They actually released a new one today, “Core Challenge in Ten”. I tried the one titled ‘Ab Attack’ a while ago when I was starting this exercise journey and it was tough then - I should repeat it and see if I can do it better now!!

Got a good amount of activity in today. Went for a long walk on the board walk with a new friend (aka Blind Date...will remain just friends ) - estimated the distance using Google Earth again. Total distance walked 7.5 km or 4.6 miles. This was before tonight’s Swim Practice. I made my distance goal tonight for the first time - completed 3 km - Yah!! Actually the final total was 3150 metres!! My arms feel like they are ready to fall off. smirk I had the slow lane all to myself so it was a good opportunity to practice my flip turns. Before, when I swam lengths I always wanted that extra breath at the turn so I preferred touch turns, but I guess I’m getting better because I was consistently able attempt the flip at the far end of the pool. I am still working out timing a bit, and it was hard to judge the distance when it started to get dark before they turned on the lights, but by the end of practice I was flipping pretty well. LOL tongue laugh
I’m going to do the shoulder opener yoga podcast after I post this. Maybe I’ll be able to get the water out of my left ear while hanging out in down dog for a while. I’ll update what I do!

Update: Completed the Shoulder Opener and the Strengthen the Core video podcasts from yogajournal.com.  The stretching is doing such good things for my body.  I am almosted tempted to skip the visit to my chiropractor this week.
Water is still in my ear. I’ll be dreaming of fish all night with it sloshing around in there… or I’ll wake up in a small puddle.

Some days you have it ... some days you don’t .. today was a don’t.

I think overdid it yesterday and the late night yoga sessions was maybe going a bit to far. The shoulder opener was needed but I should have quite there and not done the core challenge podcast too.

I am still battling headaches this week. My chiro could tell as soon as he started working on my neck. What he did certainly relieved it a bit, but he can’t control the weather so I’ll be glad when all this rain in the forecast passes. And even despite all my stretching this week there was still joint restriction that needed adjustment in my low back.

Got to the gym and didn’t feel it today. If this had been last year I know I totally would have skipped it, but not now. However I did edit my workout. Today was Back, Quads and Shoulders. Did all the weights, but omitted all the cardio sprint intervals. This was the first time doing this plan on my own so I am still working out a few things, but the reps are lower so I did increase the weight on some items that were in my last program.

Opted to not do any extra cardio today. Planning on Interval Training for cardio tomorrow, but it may just be an easy swim in a lake somewhere on my way up to North Bay. (4 hr drive) Then an evening out dancing at a club to celebrate my cousin’s birthday (not sure if I’m looking forward to that or not - not my usual cup of tea)
There is a Goodlife Gym in Huntsville about half way up and two in North Bay so I won’t be without a gym this weekend. Saturday there is a BBQ for my Aunt and Uncle’s 40th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday I will be taking two of my cousins on a short canoe/kayak trip.

Quick Post

Yesterday - no formal workout. Early Morning - Cat wrestling at the vet - follow up from last week, and yearly shots.

Long Drive to North Bay - with a few shopping stops on the way.

Evening out with my cousin and a few of her girl friends drinking and dancing. Very deferent lifestyle and outlook on life from me. I rarely drink so I stopped after 2 in the first club, then drank water for the rest of the evening. I had two reasons for not overdoing it - 1) I didn’t want to make my recurring headaches worse 2) I didn’t want all the extra calories to ruin my recent weight loss success.
It was interesting evening and though I don’t frequent these types of estiblishments, it was fun, but not something I would want to do on a regular basis. The first club was more up scale and apparently had better drinks so that is why we started there. The second club was much more a mix of different people so I felt less inhibited about dancing (and no it wasn’t because of the alcohol). Unfortunately one of my cousin’s friends didn’t stop drinking and was totally wasted by the end of the evening. We pretty much had to carry her home. Needless to say she doesn’t remember much of the evening.

Today - made it to the gym in North Bay for an Interval training session. Older machines - different crosstrainer that felt weird so I just did my warm-up then switched to a bike for intervals. 40 sec sprints (level 11), 50 seconds recovery (level 5) - repeated 12 times. After I caught my breath I moved back to the crosstrainer for another 15 min of LSB. Total Cardio time 50 min.

Thanks again!!

Time to get back to posting

Sunday:
An easy day. Went for a paddle down a river in the afternoon for a few hours. I appreciate my new strength as I am not tiring while paddling and can keep going comfortably. My partner was my cousin’s boyfriend. I made a comment that it was nice to paddle with someone stronger (than my girlfriend who I went camping with a few weeks ago). He said he was probably stronger than me, but I told him I might just surprise him and I did. He had to keep switching sides as he got tired - not me!!
Late in the evening I pulled out my cousin’s yoga mat with the intention of doing a podcast. But I was watching swimming at the Olympics and ended up just doing some stuff on my own. Various stretching poses, and some abs.

Monday.
I turned a 4 hr drive from NB to TO into a 13 hr trip. I didn’t come straight home!. I decided to putt around Algonquin Park, Dwight and Huntsville. I went for a short hike, and did a bit of shopping. It was my mom’s birthday and I got her a unique glass vase and got myself a few nic nacks and another pair of workout pants. I got a really great reaction from the store clerk when I made a offhand comment that it was nice to be able to shop in regular size stores again. She picked up on that and asked if I had lost weight recently. When I told her I was down almost 40 lbs she was very congratulatory and asked what I had been doing. I told her about my trainer which made her excited because she had just got her Personal Trainer certificate.
After some dinner I found the Goodlife gym in Huntsville and completed my workout - Chest, Hams and Arms. Then hit the road and got home at midnight.

Tuesday.
I had a lot of things to put away. Had to find someone to help me take the canoe off my car. My mom did it. Then I did a bunch laundry and other not so exciting things. I put off my workout till the evening so I could devote a few hours to process of looking for a new job. I can’t avoid it any longer. I will have to send in my resignation to the school soon, and it is scary, but I can’t go back there as support staff for another year.
Headed to the gym after dinner. Warmed up on the treadmill which I usually avoid because of my knees, but I was feeling a bit tired and thought walking would be more my speed. Once I got moving I was able to increase the speed. Then did Back Quads and Shoulders routine. Ended up changing up some of the leg exercises for harder versions because the ball was in use so I did bodyweight squats instead of ball squats. It felt good to do them again, but they are harder on my knees. Felt tired when I was done, but still followed up with 25 min on the bike. Started slow with low resistance, but found I could keep upping the resistance as time went on. Iced my knees as soon as I got home.

Wednesday
Today was not such a good day. The headache came back with a vengeance. I am getting annoyed that I am having so many recently, but with all the rain and thunderstorms we’ve been having it is not so surprising. I was doing so well for the last few months, but now I just want the sun to come out. I couldn’t focus on anything so I took some advil and went back to bed this afternoon with an ice pack on my head (and knees since I was getting them out anyway) and slept for 3 hours. It was still there a bit when I woke up. After some dinner I took another advil and headed out to swim practice. No records broken tonight. Feeling tired and a bit sore from my last two workouts. But that is a good thing.
