Hey guys!

I’m sitting at my kitchen table and Joi and I are wrapping up our holiday weekend with a little healthy cooking.

I treated Carlyn and Joel to lunch today and they said, “so… what did you guys do this weekend?”

HAD A BLAST!  And still ate right and worked out too!  I know… sickening.

Thought I would share a couple of pictures of our day on the boat with friends.

That’s Disappearing Island in Daytona Beach just off the Ponce Inlet.

Joi and her friend Ranada…

Me and my longtime friend Curt.

So… what did you do this weekend?

Amazing.  Looks like you had a blast!  Scott and Joi, you seriously look like you’re 30somethings.

We had a couple BBQ cookouts, managed to get in some exercise too.  I ate a little more than I wanted to.  Considering that I hosted 2 huge feasts last week, I only gained a couple pounds.

Cheers!

Awesome pictures. Gotta love the ocean and the Florida beaches. One month to go for our family trip to New Syrmna Beach.

4th of July was a blast. Saw some incredible fireworks that my town puts on each year at the park and took the family to the beach (Lake Ontario) to check out the jet ski races.  Rubbing the aloe in tonight to soothe the burn.
The weekend was a blast. Was able to get cardio in each day and didn’t eat all that bad. The scale will be the judge and jury!

Great Pictures Scott (& Joi!)

My brother is here visiting.  We had a late dinner downtown and walked the new river walk and stayed and watched the fireworks over the river,

My house looks over the harbor here in Juneau, so I invited some friends over Thursday night to watch the fireworks.  We have to do them at midnight so it is dark enough (land of the midnight sun!) which is why we do them on the 3rd, since most folks are off on the 4th and can sleep in a little.

We have two parades, one for down town Juneau and one on Douglas Island, so I watched part of the Juneau parade from my house and then headed over to Douglas for their festivities - including the soap box derby.  Congratulations to my co-worker’s son, who took first place in the 7 - 8 year old category.  It is great living in a small town, because everywhere you go you see people to catch up with.  And yeah, I ate WAY too much at the vendor booths on Douglas.  Fry bread, kettle corn, home made Oreo - that rocked.

But I did work out Friday and Saturday, an hour each day. smile

Sounds like everyone else had some nice sun.  We had mid-fifties and drizzly, but magically the rain stopped for the fireworks and held off most (not all but most) of the 4th.

Sounds like fun, everyone!  Even though I’m Canadian, I went down to the States for the weekend to dress up in medieval clothes, watch an equestrian competition, and do lots of singing and storytelling.  In other words, I went to a medieval camping event.  Wow, was it fun!

Cheers,
Julie

July 4th.... early morning golf with some GREAT players.... awesome to watch, humbling, and a little bit humilulating too!

Home to clean house, some yardwork, and a beautiful BBQ at some friends close by… watched fireworks from ‘Legoland’, Carlsbad (you can see them from out back patio, if you stand in a certain spot between the trees...)
Great relaxing day!

Saturday (part of the July 4th weekend)… morning bike ride to Torry Pines and back.... later that afternoon, we left for friends house (their folks, actually) who live in La Jolla, beautiufl ocean view home!..... They have a pool, so I spent some time getting a workout in....BBQ Salmon for dinner… and another nice evening ...ended spending the night...woke to a lazy morning, another swim (it would be so cool to have on in my backyard....as long as i did not have to maintain it!)

Home Sunday, about midday, it was my wife’s B-day, so treated her to a massage, then back home....and a few odds and ends in the yard, transplanting Plumerias (blooming now!) and just relaxed on the patio....

All in all a very lazy weekend! but got some good workouts in, and my yearly golf game too!

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

It was just another weekend for me.  The special part was 3 days at home.  On Friday My BF and I went kayaking (what else) with friends in the Carquinez Straits.  We paddled against the wind and waves for about an hour, then meandered up a side slough to watch the birds and look for wildlife.  There were several Snowy Egrets and a Great Blue Heron.  Then we continued across the straights and over to the south side.  At this point the wind and waves were behind us and we caught a few nice surf rides.  We stopped at a small beach near Port Costa and walked up to the Warehouse (local watering hole) and then took a short walk around town.  Then back for our lunch on the beach.

Back in the kayaks after some wine, and some snacks.  I kept it light, I don’t like paddling after a big meal.  We rode the waves back over to Benecia and took a side trip into the Marina to check out the sailboats.  Many were decorated for the holiday and there were several parties going on.  We were teasing Bill - he needed to get a sign, “Will Roll for Beer!”.  After a quick rest stop at the marina, we went back around the point to find a place to hang out, watch the sun set and wait for the fireworks to start.  We met a few more paddlers and located a place behind a barge, close to where the fireworks would be shown that was protected from the wind.  We passed around some cookies and chocolate (kayaker’s tradition - share chocolate) and watched the display.

After the fireworks, we still had to paddle back to the launch.  It was interesting paddling in the waves in the dark.  We had lights on the boats, but mostly to be seen, they didn’t help us see very much.  Visibility wasn’t all that bad though - there is a lot of ambient light in this part of the bay, so we could make out the shoreline easily, and found our way back to the launch.

A great way to spend the holiday - exercise, good friends, and a very enjoyable evening.

wow Paula...sounds like a great weekend…

Any chance we could get a video of your rolls?

It’s warm enough now, and we all would like to see!
