Hi everyone,

I’ve listened to the iTunes podcasts for a while now and have just recently come back to exercise.  This past week I listened to several old episodes of the podcasts and kept hearing about the 100 days.

I’m not sure I’ll fit the rules completely - there may be weeks where I don’t get in 4 days or do 15 minutes instead of 20, but after thinking about this for the past few days I decided I had a much better chance of being in a better position in 3 months if I joined the 100 day challenge and did it imperfectly instead of saying that since I’m not sure I can commit to following the rules I just won’t try.

So since something is better than nothing, here goes…

I actually started working out on Friday, June 27th, so I’m counting that as Day One

Day 1 (27 June) : Swimming 40 min
Day 2 (28 June) : Walking 60 min
Day 3 (29 June) : Swimming 40 min
Day 4 (30 June) : rest
Day 5 (1 July) : rest / Walking 15 min
Day 6 (2 July) : rest / Walking 15 min
Day 7 (3 July) : Walking 30 min
Day 8 (4 July) : rest / Walking 15 min
Day 9 (5 July) : Walking 75 min
Day 10 (6 July) : Elliptical 40 min
Day 11 (7 July) : Swimming 45 min

I guess one advantage of starting from here is that I already have 11 days of momentum behind me!

Excellent Start!!  Let the momentum carry you forward!

I like your attitude - some moving is always better than none.  We all need days off every now and then so I’m impressed by your first 11 days - you moved for 10 out of 11.  That is great.  You’ll find as you get fitter you’ll be able to do more, not just in your exercise sessions, but also in other daily activities.

Do you have any goals you want to reach in your first 100 Days?

I started moving in January and I know I have come a long way.  Of course I still have a long way to go, but if I hadn’t started then I would be stuck back where I was.

Wow Sarah, way to get momentum going!  That’s an excellent 11 days, and you’re absolutely right about perfection.  No one has it!  But keep something in mind as you go through these 100 days - you’ve made a commitment to *yourself*.  Don’t worry about the days ahead when you might not keep that commitment, just plan on keeping it.  Three days a week, 20 minutes a day is a great way to start, you’d be surprised how fast it turns into more.  The important thing is to build a habit of health - and you, my friend, are off to a wonderful start!

Welcome to the community!

Yeah Sarah.... another swimmer in the 100 days!

I resently started swimming (training for a triathlon), and just LOVE it!

Great start...good to see you on board!

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

To tri is to risk failure, not to tri is to guarantee it!

Hi Sarah.  What rules?!?!?  tongue wink

The only ones I know of are moving everyday, well, except for rest days.  You do what you can on your schedule.  The only person you have to beat is the person you were and don’t want to be.

Good job on your start.  Nicely done.  Have a great time on you 100 days!

Cheers!

Thanks for the welcomes everyone.

I’d seen the “rules” on the into page on the website and again on the starter thread in the 100 days section.  I didn’t know how rigid you were about them—I’m not a fan of rigid…

Well, yesterday was Day 12 and it became a rest day.  I hadn’t planned it to be - I’d planned to go for a long walk or to get on the elliptical, but my husband came home sick and wanted to be babied, and since I hadn’t gotten the exercise done in the morning (lesson here!) in order to be the kind and gentle wife I put his needs ahead of mine and skipped the gym and instead took care of him.  Since it’s a mighty rare event to be called upon like that I have no regrets - it just means I’ll need to be a bit more creative during the rest of the week to get in some exercise…

Hey Sarah, welcome to the 100 days, the rules are very simple-you have to be consistently active for 100 days, that can be anywhere from 1 to 7 days(3 is a good number for beginners), rest days are taken when needed and when life gets in the the way (I have made my my Scott quote for the day!). The most important part is remaining consistent! For more info read this thread- http://www.motivationtomove.com/forums/viewthread/679/ hope this helped! I’ll watch this thread, if you have any questions please post them.

I was just poking around the forum and I’m glad I didn’t do that before I started my thread - it’s very intimidating seeing all these people with 10, 20, 30 pages of 100 days of exercise, several who are on their second or third set of 100 days, and if I saw correctly a few over 365.

I guess you all started somewhere though, and all I can do is move from where I am.  I’ve spent the past few months bemoaning my current situation but that didn’t get me very far…

I was able to do some real exercise today, quite unexpectedly in fact.  I was supposed to have a work dinner tonight but was really going to see the company president (who was hosting the dinner) and I ended up chatting with him in the hallway in the afternoon, so was able to get out of the dinner.  All I was thinking about was how good I’d feel after going to the pool, so as soon as I got home I grabbed my bag and headed out - and not a minute to spare, I swam 40 minutes and was considering another few laps when they blew the whistle - closing time.

Day 13 (9 July) : Walking 15 min; Swimming 40 min

Absolutely.  I could barely do 10 minutes of walking when I started and every single one of us started with only one entry in our threads.  It doesn’t matter one lick when you start - what does mater is that you start, and my dear, you most certainly have started.

Good catch on the morning exercising.  There’s nothing like starting the day with a victory and the knowledge that you don’t have to work in a workout.

You’re doing great!!

Thanks, Jill

Well, I head into Friday in much better standing vs the exercise than I expected, largely because I was able to find ways to get some done during the week - which is reassuring for the 100 days, because often that’s been the biggest issue for me.  (Granted, work-wise things are already slowing down for summer here).

Yesterday’s exercise was walking to several appointments during the day, instead of taking the metro or other transportation.  In all, I walked for 90 minutes, so even though it wasn’t a sweat-inducing pace it counts as something real.

Day 14 (10 July) : Walking 90 min

Yesterday I’d planned to get to the pool, but ended up running errands and so changed that into walking (and freed up some time for other fun things this weekend).  I will hit the pool this weekend - among my errands was a trip to the sporting-goods store where I picked up new goggles, new ear plugs and a new kickboard.

It’s been a nice weekend here (not over, as today is the French national holiday).  Mainly sunny and not too warm, I took advantage of that by walking like a madwoman all over town on Saturday (and the first 60 min were at a very brisk pace).

Yesterday I hit the pool, but was sad to see that they are closed today for the holiday (all the public pools are, not just mine).  So I guess today will probably be walking.

Day 16 (12 July) : Walking 185 min

You’re doing a great job, Sarah. It would have been easy to skip your workout when the thing you had plan fell through, but instead you were flexible and altered your plan.  That’s a huge skill to have as you walk in this journey - girl, you are amazing!

Welcome, Sarah! Sorry I’m late, but I’ve been on vacation.

Looks like you are sticking to the rules very well. It’s sort of addicting, knowing that when you accomplish it, you can write it down here.

What are your goals?

Thanks for all the comments & encouragements.

Well, this is the week that almost had me not sign up for the 100 days - this week will be VERY difficult, for a number of reasons, including a minor medical procedure that had me sidelined yesterday and some scheduling nightmares.  I’m going to do my best this week but even if the week is bad I’m better off having started than having used this week as an excuse not to start at all.  And next week I should be a-ok & totally back on track.

Day 18 (14 July) : scheduled rest day
Day 19 (15 July) : rest day (medical)

Hi Sarah!  Just popped in on your thread.  I have to say you are living my dream of living in Paris!  I absolutely love it there.  It’s funny, last night me and mom agreed if we both lost 40 lbs this year we will go back to Paris!  You are doing great!  Now all you have to do is keep it up!

Do what you can, try your best, and if you fall short, forgive yourself. This is called a challenge for a reason.

Do you like yoga? It’s great for stress relief, and perfect just before bed.
