Deb,

I’m so impressed with your kettle bell success. I’m doing them now and they are kickin’ my butt! Keep this up and you’ll be known around town as “Buff-Granny”!

Aren’t they just the greatest!?!?! They are so much fun. I told my husband last night I didn’t even care about the blisters and calluses because it’s so much fun!  LOL

Month 6 Day 27

46 minutes Kettlebells

I don’t know if it was the heat and humidity or three days in a row, but I just didn’t have any oomph yesterday. I’m going to try to workout tomorrow to make up for it, but who knows if “something” (Randy’s spur of the moment plans) will come up. We’ll see.

Month 7 Day 2

10 minutes kettlebells

Oh, what a weekend...we went out for Chinese food, the next morning I was 8 pounds heavier with a very sick headache...it took 3 days to get rid of the water weight and the headache (which was related I’m sure). Today I thought I felt Ok, but the headache was lurking, just waiting for an excuse to resurface. After my first set of swinging, the headache was much more threatening, so I thought I’d better stop for today. I WILL feel better tomorrow…

Maybe a light workout like some easy walking will help you out.  Don’t get the HR too high, just get the blood flowing and some oxygen circulating.

I know headaches that hang around for a long time are bothersome.  Get some good nutrition, drink water and get some good sleep.

Oh...has it been a week already...wow...time certainly can slip away when you’re not paying attention… I admit the heat got the better of me this week, I’ve sat in front of a fan and done nothing...it just drains me. It was a bit cooler today and I feel a bit better...perhaps tomorrow I can do Something… sick

I can understand about the heat, especially for us northerners who don’t have air conditioning and are not used to the heat.  I tossed and turned a lot last night because of the heat.  Hopefully, the cooler weather you got today will reach us tomorrow.

Hi Deb - the heat is miserable here in California too.  The only time I can even think of exercising is early morning.  Drink plenty of fluids and take care.  cool smile

Month 7 Day 9

46 minutes of kettlebells

I woke early and got my workout done in the cool of the morning; looks like we had the same idea Priscilla! I’ll try to remember to do that. It’s funny, I always walked before breakfast, but for some reason I started in with the kettlebells after breakfast; I probably figured it’s a lot harder so I needed some energy first.

Hi Deb - I’ve noticed that you’ve been doing kettlebell workouts for quite awhile now and see that you built up from 10 minutes to 40+.  Can you give me more details?  Do you have a video or how did you learn what to do?  How many # did you start with, how many pounds are you on now?  Where did you get it? Anything else that you’d tell someone else who’s curious.

Well, Priscilla, where to begin!  LOL

I bought it at Sports Authority - http://www.sportsauthority.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2115777 It’s a nice 12 K bell. I started with 12 K and I am still working with 12K. I don’t have any videos; I learned from reading all I could find online (I currently keep up with a couple dozen kettlebell blogs.) I watched all the videos YouTube has to offer. My main inspiration has been Tracy Reifkind - http://tracyrif.blogspot.com/ I resonated with her story; her blog documented not only her workouts, but also her struggles with food and bingeing. She also happened to loose over 100 pounds with the kettlebell (her story is on a link on the top right of this page - http://giryastrength.com/)

So after I studied all I could find; I started out slow, to make sure I didn’t hurt myself (12 K feels pretty substantial!). I modified Tracy’s beginning routine - I haven’t gotten to snatches yet.

I am doing one minute work then one minute rest. I do 5 work cycles (which I arbitrarily call a set - 9 minutes), then rest for 3 minutes. I started with 1 set of 2-handed swings; I’ve been adding additional sets as I’ve been able. I’m up to 4 sets at this point.

Set 1: 2-handed swings
Set 2: 1 swing, 1 clean and press; 5 on each side
Set 3: 1-handed swings; about 18 on each side
Set 4: 1-handed swings; alternating 1 left-1 right; last minute is 2-handed swings.

When I’m ready for snatches, I’ll add a 5th set. Or maybe I’ll add a 5th set before then, depending on how long it takes to be brave enough to try a snatch!  ohh

How’s that? Anything I didn’t answer for you?  cheese

Good job with the kettlebell workouts, Deb.  I know they can be a real challenge to get into, but very good cardio workouts.

Bree… the humidity’s getting to me, my hard drive/Windows crashed so have been rebuilding my system, and I’m nursing a sore elbow… So, all in all, having a bad week, and feeling sorry for myself… hmmm
