Hi all,

I’ve mentioned a few times on this community that I used to do karate.  For a variety of reasons, I decided to leave my dojo about 3 years ago, about six months before I would have received my black belt.  I haven’t really done much karate since.  (That will change once I return to Montreal in a month, mind you.)

However, in the meantime I was trying to do some of my katas (forms) this morning, and some of the later ones (specifically, the 4th and 5th pinan) just were not happening.  I kept forgetting bits in the middle, and it was very frustrating.  So I went a-hunting on the internet for something to jog my memory and I found this:

http://www.chindadojo.org/videos/videos.htm

If you scroll down about halfway to “VIDEOS BY MASTER WERNER LIND,” there are videos of each of the 5 pinans, and a few black-belt katas as well.  “Preview clip 1” for each video shows someone actually doing the kata, “preview clip 2” shows it in kumite form (ie: against other people).  The style wasn’t exactly what I used to do, but it was close enough that I was able to remember the parts I’d been forgetting.

I offer this as a service to anyone who might be in the same situation I was, but mostly as a way for me to remember the link the next time I need it.  smile

TTFN,
Julie

Julie! No one will appreciate this information more than me!

As you might remember, my daughter is in Kajukenbo. Yesterday I attended one of her 4 hour classes on self defense. I was able to participate with her and it was physically demanding = I loved it! Plus, when we left, I felt so empowered.

I am giving some serious thought of joining the adult classes. This is great stuff! THANK YOU!

OK, kinda off subject here… my brother’s dog is named Kumite.  What exactly does that mean?

Kumite means “sparring,” and is the part of karate where you’re actually fighting against someone, as opposed to doing moves on your own at the air.  More information can be found at wickipedia:
