I’m Back.

Things have gotten a little crazy at work and things at home haven’t been much saner in getting everything our lives rearranged for the baby.  I haven’t been horrible when I was “away” but I haven’t been too good either.  But this weekend I realized that I’ve been spinning my wheels going no where by staying up late to try to get stuff done, etc.  After listening to Scott talk about the “Success Principles” book - I downloaded it from iTunes and using it as the shot in the arm I needed.

I guess I should start a journal thread but figured I would explain my absence smile

Anyway - this morning to get back on track I did 40 minutes on the elliptical and had the ol’ standby breakfast of 2 egg whites on a whole wheat english muffin.  Snacks today are an orange and FF yogurt.

Good to be back…

Ooh!  Thanks for mentioning that, Chris!  I hadn’t even considered that it might be an audio book!  And it’s 6 and a half hours long—imagine how many walks to campus that’ll get me though! (about 10 round trips, actually) Hm… now I just have to manage to scrounge up some money to buy it…

Audio books are great for those walks.  Audiobooks are recorded painfully slow so I always use the fastplay feature in my iPOD to listen in half the time.  They sound pretty good at that speed.  Then again, if you are used to listening to ME at 300 to 500 words per minute - you won’t have a problem with a speeded up audio book.

Hi Scott,

I tend to listen to podcasts, myself, but I might be able to put those aside for a week or two to listen to the Success Principle.  By the way, where is teh “fastplay” feature on the ipod?!?  I’ve got an ipod (got it last July), but I never saw that feature.  How can I access it?

Thanks,
Julie

Did you say “put aside” those podcasts for a week or so?  I didn’t here that did I? smile

Now about that fastplay.  On the iPOD main menu go to settings>audiobook and choose your speed.  Simple… and I like simple.

Thanks for the info.  And, yes, I did say “put aside.” Obviously I’m not talking about MTM!  (You don’t think you’re the only podcast I listen to, do you?) If I don’t set aside the podcasts, I won’t have time to listen to the book!  It’s all about choices, Scott.  You know that!

I have to say that I am selective about what I listen to when I walk, too!  Some of the audiobooks are just not as motivating; although I’ve always been a “fast walker”, anyway.

I’m doing pretty well on my diet (hate that word); my new style of eating, I mean.  I’m not addicted to meat; cut out added salt many years ago, but now I find that middle-age means more fine-tuning.  I just got back from a cruise, and I did okay, by which I mean I didn’t eat as much as I wanted to, but did eat more than I should have.  Had a big salad for lunch every day, and usually another at dinner.  And I’m trying to continue this habit now that I’m back.  Also analyzing for hidden sodium, and found that I was probably eating too much cottage cheese in the past 6 mo or so, so I basically cut it out last week, and lost over 5 pounds, just with those changes and eating more fresh fuit and vegetables, instead of processed foods.

I injured my already arthritic knee in a fall 2 weeks ago, and have stitches in it, so I find that I am having to modify my walking a bit.  Kneeling is also out of the question for a couple more weeks. I’m doing stretching exercises to decrease stiffness in the joints.

I write down everything I eat and so far doing okay.  And seeing myself in those cruise photos is enough to keep me going.

I want to get off of blood pressure meds and be able to tie my shoelaces without getting out of breath.
