It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

Tom -

Don’t let me fool you.  It’s paved.

But I help pay for that paving - Reston, VA Homeowner’s Association fees…

Tom -

I’ll set the treadmill to 5.5 mph (11 minutes per mile, the same as my outdoor pace).

That doesn’t really account for the inclines of running outside, and I don’t use any fancy programming to work in any intervals either…

Can you or some of the other moderators give me some more diet advice (or point out some of the best threads in MTM land for this)?  I think that this is where I need the help right now.

Thanks,

- Tim

Hey Tim,
A rather broad question… “diet advice”

what is your daily calorie consumption
how many calories do you burn on your workouts
what kind of job do you have (active etc)
any other kind of exercise
what is your alcohol intake
age
current weight
goal weight
overall fitness expectations

I just know that to lose a lb, you have to eat 500 calories less than your eating now each day
So if you eating 2500 calories, do the same amount of exercise and eat only 2000 calories and in a week, you WILL lose a lb.

I use fitday.com to track my calories....just to keep me honest

eating healthy (things that don’t have UPC codes), watching your total fat intake, finding what you like to eat, that works within these parameters ..... that’s the key..... doing it without you feeling deprived!

I like mini goals… 5lbs here, a couple if lbs there..... do some intervals on the runs to burn a little more calories.....track how much you do, so you can see how the results come about.... those are key for me!

Hope that helps a bit!

Keep it up! your doing great!

No I haven’t heard of it, but you’ve probably already seen this website(?): http://www.restonbikeclub.org/restoncentury/

Anything outdoors and fitness related in Reston during the month of August is definitely going to be hot, humid and sweaty, in addition to being hilly!
