Many, many, many,many..... I know I feel the same way.  But we have to think of this as a lifestyle and incoporate fun movement.  I know I really like my walks and I want to find more activities I enjoy.  How about you?

Candy - I’ve been thinking about that and I have actually already looked into joining a swim club for the summer. Yah I coached the high school swim team, but I didn’t know much about it the first year I did it. I have never trained for competition, and I don’t know that I will compete, but it will be interesting to get in the water and have an experienced coach give me pointers. It won’t start until closer to the end of June, but I’ve done the leg work and I am looking at a few different clubs.
I know I haven’t done much actual walking at all recently, I’ve been focusing on different things, (weight training and bike for cardio because it is easier on my knees and I can get my HR up higher), but I’ve decided that tomorrow will be a walk after dinner.

Day 97 - CCT session at the school. Good workout with lots of stretching after. Felt good. Back is still quite sore - in a good way from Sunday’s session with my trainer, but I tried the new exercise again today (bent over dumbbell row with front delt extension), but only for one set, for the first and last sets I did the old exercise (bent over barbell row).

I have a feeling this isn’t it… but what.. have a shower first?  I was always reminding patrons to do that.

or are we talking about lane swim ediquitte - if you are slow - SWIM IN THE SLOW LANE - NOT THE FAST LANE!!!!  Which is where I will be with these swimmers!

It’s from the movie Fight Club with Brad Pitt, if I’m on the same page as Shawn.  Whatever happens in fight club stays in fight club.  You should see it.  Brad Pitt and Edward Norton....yummy!!!!

Day 98 - rest day.

This morning I had that dreaded appointment with my doctor for my yearly physical. Dreaded because of what is involved for women - not because I was expecting any bad news. It was all good news - because I am now exercising regularly there have been some important improvements beyond just my weight loss.

Today I was feeling quit low on energy because I had to be fasting for the blood work and I didn’t get to eat until after 11 am - no morning fuel in my system. I couldn’t workout today (no heavy lifting anyway), and I doubt I’d be have been very productive anyway. My left arm is sore from the booster shot my doc decided to give me.

She also gave me a new medication to try for migraines. It has been a while since I have had a prescription strength med for them, but I thought it was worth a try. Since I potentially only have insurance coverage to the end of next month I made sure to get it filled right away! At 20 bucks a pill I don’t want to be paying for them myself!!

Odd, Catherine, on another board, two different female friends reported they had blood work done this morning and had had to fast. Three of you is more than a coincidence! Maybe it means it’s time to make a doc appointment (for me I mean.) I too noticed some improvements in my overall health as well as my female health due to exercise.  There, more euphemistic than our bra discussion. smile

Glad to know you are getting that taken care of, especially taking advantage of the prescription drug coverage. Somehow I thought things were better in Canada though!

LOL Anne - very intuitive - yes some of them are “female” related.  Another improvement is better blood pressure.  It had been borderline before, but it is well within normal limits now!

Day 99 - Got two workouts in today, however the second one was completely unintentional!!

The first one was my usual CCT workout. I had planned on going to the gym after school, but they needed someone to supervise the weight room during 3rd period so I volunteered and got my own workout in at the same time. Good workout. Thought I was done for the day.

I made an appointment with a physio therapist today to get a second opinin on my knees since the treatments I’ve been getting from my chiropractor do not seem to be improving them that much. The PT confirmed the basic diagnosis that my chiro gave me, but went into much more depth on why it is happening. Basically it is because of a muscle imbalance my knee cap is being pulled outward. ** My IT band is too tight (rather than my quads which I have been focusing on stretching) and the medial head of the quad needs to be stronger. All the other ligaments and tendons of inner workings of my knees are fine - it is just the tendons on the patella that are being affected. So after he taped my knees to bring the kneecaps more medial he stuck me on the bike for 15 minutes. Usually not that big of a deal, but the resistance was quite high and my heart rate must have been way up there! I really felt in on the inner part of the thigh. I wasn’t wearing gym clothes or even runners - I did it in my sandals - but I worked up a good sweat for the second time today!! So much for the LSB - that was 15 minutes of high intensity!! After he had me balance on an air disk (1 min x 3 - each leg) and for the final part he put on the electro pads that made my knees tingle for another 15 minutes while doing legs lifts with a 5 lb sand bag hanging over my ankle (on my back - straight leg - toes out. 10 X 3 each leg).

** He showed me just how far the patella is out. He marked the middle of my patella and the two epicondyle on either side of my femur and it was easy to see that the patella was way off center. There is only supposed to be less than 0.5 cm difference and for me the distance from the medial epicondyle to the center of my patella is about 9.5 cm and the lateral side is only about 5.5 cm - about a 4 cm difference - 8x the difference of a normal knee!! He also told me I am knock kneed! I have thought that before and he confirmed it.

Plan for day 100 - morning swim.

Day 100 - I made it!!

Got my swim in as planned this morning. Did a time trial on myself to make sure I could do 100 metres in under 2 minutes. I started in the water (no dive start - since I was timing myself) and did it in 1:56 so I qualify to join the swim club! I’m glad he said 2 minutes and not 1:45.
Didn’t feel like doing a hard swim so it was just a matter of moving. Now that I understand my knee issues, I’m comfortable doing breast stroke again which is a relaxing stoke for me. As usual my swim was shorter than I’d like because my partner didn’t want to stay that long. Got about 30 minutes of continuous swimming in and another 15 “social” swim/ stretching. Should go for a walk around the block this evening but it is a bit rainy out.

Thanks Eileen - I just saw that you posted yesterday while I was composing. I missed it yesterday.

Round 2 - Day 1!!

Had my second PT session today. Another intense 15 minutes on the bike followed by leg lifts and wall squats with electrodes on my legs. He also told me how to do squats in a way that takes the pressure off my knees - makes a big difference. Time will tell if this really helps.

Headed to the gym after and did a modified CCT session - skipped the leg exercises since they already had a good workout. Did extra sets of everything else.

Welcome to Round 2.

I hope the PT helps your knees.  I know it has to be frustrating to have sore knees but you have found ways to keep moving anyways.

Hey Thanks ShawB!!  (just kidding… you’re spelling is just getting more creative.  There are 2 “e"s in my name)

It is nice to get the confirmation.

R2-D2 - (round 2 - day 2 realized that sounded like a Starwars reference!) Rest Day - wanted to go out and do some cardio, but I procrastinated all day and avioded the books so didn’t get it done.

OK - New plan for study days - light workout first (so I’m not feeling like a nap after) then study.
