Yesterday was a bit tougher, BUT I DID IT! I FIT IN 70 MINUTES on the treadmill.  I was facing a day that was “off schedule"--doctor’s appointments, meetings at work, etc., but I came home from my afternoon meeting and instead of sitting and relaxing, I got on the treadmill and did my time. Still I was 2000 steps short of my daily 10,000 goal, but I headed off to church for play practice for my host son (German foreign exchange student) and while he was at practice I walked to a restaurant for dinner.  I ate a veggie sandwich on flatbread, and drank iced tea, then walked back to the church. Needless to say, I ended up over my 10,000 goal and was overjoyed.

Will fill you in on today in another post. Thanks for reading!

OK, I have yesterday and today to cover.  I went to the park for my 70+ minute walk yesterday. It was funny--I checked my pedometer after my workout and after 4 laps around the park (the post says they are 1 mile each, but I think they’re actually shorter) my pedometer showed a measly 5000+ steps.  My all or nothing thinking kicked in--am I going to make my 10,000 steps? Did my pedometer malfunction? What’s up with this?  For a moment I was feeling defeated. And then it was like one of those V8 commercials. Hey Kris, you just walked for 70+ minutes!!!! What are you defeated about?  This quick change of view was new to me; I need to remember to keep everything in perspective. Move everyday. Keep moving. Slow and steady wins the race!

These have been beautiful days in Eastern PA.  I just got back from a 75 minute walk around the park. It is a beautiful morning with the temps around 62, blue skies, and gentle breezes. What a great day!  At the conclusion of this walk my pedometer shows over 9000 steps.  Not too shabby for 9:30AM! I’m guaranteed to meet both my 10,000+ goal and my 60-75 minute goal is done. Check.

Good eating is the next goal to be met for today, and I’m off to a good start.
Off to the dentist for my checkup....see you all later.

THE SCALE MOVED AGAIN!  The click is an amazing thing. Having changed my eating and begun exercising, I’m feeling more energized and focused.  I am going out to an English Pub for lunch with my husband and two good friends this afternoon.  I’m going to be “more gooder than badder” and keep in mind how I want to feel as I walk out of the pub.  It is not all or nothing! I can do this!

More later.

So I had a great day yesterday. I kept my eating under control, enjoyed good, healthy food for my main meal at the pub, a treat or two (a pint of Strongbow and sticky toffee pudding), and never felt full.  I went to a banquet last night; everything was served family style so I had total control of my choices and portions.  I walked over 12,000 steps, and woke up this morning feeling really good. The scale showed steady, which I was pleased to see after enjoying my special meal at the pub.

One thing Scott said on a podcast I listened to yesterday that really rang true with me.  That is how difficult it is to “begin again.” Getting started is the hardest part.  I’ve started, and by golly, I’m not going to stop, even after I get what I want. I know this is a total life change, and I’m happy to be in it for the duration!

My husband and I will be going to the mall to walk today.  It’s a very humid day outside with thunderstorms likely, and the treadmill doesn’t offer the “change of scenery” that my psyche needs today.  Observe and adapt....this is good.

Off to get my day started. More later.
Thanks for reading!

Thanks, Cleda. It will for you too!

A funny story: My Mom is ALWAYS aware of my eating, my weight, etc. She always liked to say “Kristen was always a big girl.” (I loved that!.) confused

Last night at a banquet (it was a church “Mother and Daughter” banquet) she started by saying that she needed to go shopping, that she had gained some weight and needed to buy some nice clothes for dressing up for occasions such as this. I said “sure, let’s make a date to go out and do some shopping for you.” A few minutes later, as the food was being passed around (family style) she noticed that I passed on the rolls and butter.  Then she noticed my portion sizes. She looked over at me and said, “wow, you really ARE being good.” I just smiled.

I hadn’t told her that I’m exercising, or eating differently; I’m just doing it. I don’t need her looking over my shoulder at everything I eat (although she already does), but if I tell her what I’m “up to” the comments definitely won’t stop.  I’m sure there will be a running commentary when the weight loss begins to show, but I’ll be so proud of myself, I won’t even care!

Just keepin’ on keepin’ on!

:: insert Rollerblading Snoopy doing his little happy dance ::

YEAH Kris!!!  So glad the scale is moving for you.

And interesting on the mother/daughter banquet.  In reading my “mindless eating” book, it’s amazing the food cues we take (both externally and internally) and this is what I’m working on. Not letting emotions and other people set me off on an eating binge with the “oh forget about it ... I have too much to lose anyway, I’ll start tomorrow.” .....  Those cues are more MY reactions to them and not actually them. I MUST DEAL WITH IT ... I must be the accountable one!  Responsible for me .....

Portion control is HUGE (no pun intended) ..... and gives us many visual cues.  Glad you did well and you’re right, when the weight loss shows, then people will notice. It won’t happen overnight, but sometimes the drop (of weight) feels that way!!!!

Yes, portion control is a big one, and making my food choices based on the guidelines I have set for myself: 1) no fast food, 2) at least 80% non-processed food each day, 3) at least 4-5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day, and 4) at least 2-4 whole grains per day.  If I think of these guidelines every time I eat, I am more likely to stay on track.

So this evening, after we finished dinner, my husband said to me: “if you buy me a pedometer, I’ll start walking with you.” I’m heading to Walmart as soon as I sign off the computer!  Cool, huh?! LOL

I’m signing off with 14,851 steps on my pedometer so far.  I’m sure to add a couple more with my run to Walmart!

Way to go on motivating hubby!!! You may want to get yourself a new one, too. Sounds like you’re about to wear out the current one! wink
