I guess I should have introduced myself and told you a bit about me.
I just found MTM on ITunes recently and after listening several times to each podcast times I headed to the website to find out how to get more.  So when the incentive check came in I signed up.  I started 121 days ago on my journey to lose weight and get fit.  I started at 227.5lbs, I am now at 193.5.  I have been trying to hit the treadmill as much as possible and keep my eating on track.  Have support at work from friends and started the “Straight and Skinny” club.  We keep saying we need to stay on the straight and skinny road to succeed.  I need all the motivation I can get to work out, I can handle the eating, but working out is hard.  I have asthma and arthritis in my knees, so I hurt a lot at times, but really trying to keep moving.  Any help I can get would be appreciated and I will give all the support I can to everyone too.  if anyone wants to know anything else about me, just ask.  Be happy to talk!

Hey there Bree,

I swear I wouldn’t be this far if it wasn’t for the support I’ve gotten.  Glad you like the club name.  I like walking on the treadmill, at least till I can’t catch my breath!  I am about to join a kick boxing class that a friend from work, KayTie, is going to be teaching.  I have visions of dying in the middle of class, but I’m going to give it my best.  I like Yoga, but can’t do some of the moves as my legs are too heavy to bend backwards yet.  I will get there though!!

Sure do love Scott’s podcasts, they have gotten me going and thinking for sure.

Have fun kickboxing! I used to do Tae Bo all the time and just love it! Right now its all about yoga (knee injury), what’s amazing about that is how much you can improve in your flexibility day to day. And you can always just do the moves to your level (thank God).  I love Inhale (yoga program) on Oxygen. My kids call it crazy man yoga, its on at 5am, but I tivo it.

Let us know how the kickboxing goes! Are you planning on starting a thread in the 100 days challenge?

Hi Lynda. Welcome to MTM. Congrats on the weight loss so far. Have you set a goal weight?
Kickboxing sounds like fun. I’ve always wanted to try it. Are you going to join the 100 Days Challenge?

Wow, I hadn’t thought about the 100 days challenge.  I will look into that and let you all know.

My goal weight is 134lbs, but I am hoping to have lost a total of 50lbs by July 25th.  A long time friend who is my age, 58, is getting married for the very first time and I want to look good for the wedding.  I only have 16lbs to go and so I’m looking into the 7 pounds in 7days to maiybe give me a boost.

I am very excited about the class.  a good friend, Kaytie will be teaching and she understands my limitations and wants to help me get better toned and flexible.  It’s actually called Cardio Kick, has a lot of cardio, kicking, boxing and all kinds of arm, abs and leg work.  I most likely will die by the end of the first class, LOL!!  I start on May 20th and she will be giving the class three times a week.  Maybe I will check out the 100 day challenge tonight.  Thanks for all the compliments and support.  I truly love this site!!

Hi Catherine,

I love this site.  Happened into it by accident.  got an ipod shuffle for christmas from my youngest son and discovered the free podcasts, downloaded Motivation to Move and decided I had to have more.

I’ve been doing great on my diet and decided that this time there would be no yo-yo, I’m focused and I’m going to make it to my goal weight.

Thanks for replying.  I would love to make some friends out here and his is a great start.  tell me more about you and your journey.  Anyone else reading this please tell me about your journey and about yourself.

Ask me anything you might want to know, be happy to talk.

Hi Lynda

I came upon this site in much the same way you did. I am just a bit below where you started in your weight loss journey. I started at 247 lbs in January and am now down to 222. One of my goals is to get rid of all the 2’s associated with my weight (size 20, 2X and below 200lbs - likely in that order). I just made my first 10% mini goal. (of course it is ALL 2’s!!)! My very next hurdle is to get below 220!

I’ve had a thread going in the 100 Days of Exercise Challenge since February and I have accumulated 14 pages to date. That would take a while to read through (and maybe be too much info!) so maybe read the first few pages to hear how and why I got started and then skip to the end to see how I am doing now.

I have been having knee issues too. Actually many of us have knee issues (among other ailments!) but we all strive to work around them and keep moving the best we can.

Welcome to MTM land and I encourage you to start your own thread in the Exercise Challenge!!

thanks to everyone who has replied to me on this site.  Thanks for all the support and I have to tell you I’m going to be relying on MTM and the great people out here as I got laid off this week from a job I really loved.  I am going to need all the support and focus I can get to stay on course.

I am so thrilled that I am part of this community of friends and family.  It has gotten me through and given me ideas of how to keep moving forward.

thanks again to all of you!!

Hey Lynda… so glad to see you back here.  Have you been listening to Scott’s podcasts and moving all along?

Sorry to hear about the job situation… I am in a similar one.  I have a week left in my current job and am being laid off too.  There is a possibility of being recalled, but I’m actually hopping that doesn’t happen.  This is the kick in the pants I need to go out and get the job I am now qualified for, but have been too chichen to go after.  The bonus to getting laid off is that I qualify for EI while I am job hunting.  I am trying not to think about the end of something that I have enjoyed for the last 4 years.  I am good friends with some of the women I work with and will miss them.  I owe my start on this weight loss journey to one very inspirational woman.

Welcome once again and keep us posted on your progress.

Catherine,

Yeah, I’m back.  Actually haven’t really left, LOL Of course I’ve been listening to Scott, can’t get by a day without his words of wisdom.

I’m not really all that down about the lay off even though I have to admit I really loved the job and all the people there.  I made a great friend there and she has now gotten me into a Cardio Kick class.  Last night was the first time for me to attend and while I wasn’t very co-ordinated I had a great time and got a good workout.  Loved punching the bags, got a lot of stress out, I highly recommend it.  I am looking forward to taking a bit of time off this summer and getting a lot of things done while I look for a new job.  They won’t recall us and most likely there will be more layoffs till they eventually close the office, sad for the people there that have worked many years there.

sorry to hear about your layoff too.  What job have you wanted that you were too chicken to try for?  Great to have friends that are an inspiration.  What is EI?  is that some kind of training or classes?  I will get unemployment and some severance pay, so I should be all right, hope you will be too.  Rockford has the highest unemployment rate in the state so I am not too hopeful of a quick hire.  Sorry I tend to rattle on and on when I talk or write, LOL!!

Heading over to the 100 day challenge and get started.  Hope to hear from you again soon and good luck!!

Already found your 100 days thread and posted there!  Good job for making the move.

I am qualified as an elementary Teacher in Ontario, but the job market is not very good for teachers right now.  I may get stuck doing supply or temp positions for a few years.  EI = Employment Insurance.  It used to be called UI.  Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be getting any severence pay.  Currently I work as support staff in a high school - teaching the aquatic program.

My last day is the sixth.  That would have been my last day anyway for the summer. I am taking my second Additional Qualification course right now so I’ll have lots of time to focus on it once I am done at the high school.  I also plan to get some volunteer classroom time in at one of the elementary school I have already spent a few days with, before summer starts for them.  And of course I’ll step up my training again.  My next mini goal is to get below 200 by my birthday in late August.  I am just completing my first 100 Days tomorrow!  On to the second round!

Looks like we’re going to be unemployed about the same time.  My last day is the 5th.  I do get severance, but have no idea when it will get here, not good when you need to budget rent.

There is not much in the way of employment here in Rockford, Il either.  Lots of companies have been laying off and I’m not real hopeful about getting anything including temp work anytime soon.  It will work out though one way or another, thank goodness I will get unemployment checks.

I’m going to take this time to get a lot of my quilting done and set up the work out.  Tomorrow morning I have class -Butts, Guts and Thighs.  Still sore from Wednesdays Cardio Kick class, but moving seems to help that.  Figured if I got into the 100 day challenge it would keep me going.

I have always wanted to travel to Canada, but have never gotten the chance.  Wonder how different life is there from down here where I live.  I like Yoga too and wonder which needle arts you are into.  I love to cross stitch, quilt, and knit.  congrats on making your first 100 days!!  You can do it, lose enough to be at 200lbs by your birthday.  I have goals like that too, first one was to get below 200lbs and I was so excited when I got there.  Felt like I had won the lottery, LOL Next goal is to lose a total of 50lbs, which I would like to do by July 25th.  I’m going to a wedding then and would love to feel like I looked great.  I think I can do it, especially with the classes 3x a week.

So glad to be out here talking to people who are going through the same things I am.  I love making new friends so talk to you soon.  Have a great evening!!
