Has anyone ever tried hypnosis to control appetite and behavior to lose weight?

I was thinking of giving it a try as an additional tool to help me along the way.  I exercise regularly and like healthy foods but I am not consistent with my eating habits and am an emotional eater; good one day and bad the next.  I know this isn’t a quick fix but was thinking/hoping it might give me a little boost.

Any advice on this subject?

Hi Sweetea,

I’ve never been a huge fan of hypnosis, but if it works for you, go for it!

Some techniques used by hypnotists, like putting in anchors and altering your reactions, could probably be done consciously.  For example, if you focus on the good feeling you get when you’re eating healthy food, and the energy you experience afterwards, you’ll probably start eating even more healthy food, because you’re focusing on the positive.

But, like they say, if it works for you, do it!

Cheers,
Julie

Thanks Julie.  It sounds like you had a bad experience with it.  Have you ever been hypnotized for any reason?

I’ve never been hypnotized so I have no idea whether it would work or not.  I was curious if anyone else has ever tried it and what their experience was, good or bad.  I have not made my decision yet and was hoping to gather some information about it before I sign up.

No, I’ve never had a bad experience.  On the other hand, I’ve never tried it, for the same reason I rarely drink and don’t use drugs: I like being in control of my own mind and actions.

Though I know you’re not planning on using the hypnotism for therapy, I’ve heard horror stories about people who “remember” events (usually abusive) that never actually happened, because they’ve been prompted into it by the hypnotist.  For the subject, the events seem absolutely real, despite being products of their own mind.

I’m just saying that if you’re planning on doing this, to be careful and use someone reputable. (As with anything, I suppose.)

Cheers,
Julie

Yikes!  I never thought of that.  Thanks for the information.  I’ll check into it thoroughly before even considering it.
