Hi Guys!

I am so excited to be here. I LOVE the pod-casts from Scott and feel so blessed to have found them. I have learned that what I feed my mind… grows, and Scott’s message is sure to help me in my growth!! I am a former group fitness instructor, nutrition consultant and trainer at a local gym who almost competed in a figure show not to long ago (ok...awhile ago) and remembers that phenomenal feeling of being in the best shape of my life…

I occasionally make excuses for myself and Scott’s messages put some “real” perspective on my whining. I have gained 15 lbs since then, and would like to see some of that melt back off....but more than that....i want to feel vibrant again. I want to NOT hit that 3pm wall....but keep on going.

I still run at least 2 times a week, and own a gym quality elliptical (which i don’t use) and alot of weights and an incline bench (also with dust) and a stability ball....so no “I can’t make it to the gym” just .... lazy.

I am going to rebound! Right here ...right now. One step at a time....then repeat.

Scott....I don’t know if you read these...but you are about to help me change my direction....you already have. Thank-you. My kids without knowing it will thank you, my husband who notices that I am happier when I am active thanks you without knowing it smile And I thank you....

Looking forward to the journey!

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

To tri is to risk failure, not to tri is to guarantee it!

Welcome, Jenn! What a vibrant introduction.  You sound like you’re on the right track already!

That 3pm wall.... sounds familiar. My issues were never getting enough sleep, and relying on caffeine, sugars, and starchy foods to give me quick energy (or just taste good), and they’d all leave me hanging in the late afternoon.  My diet’s improved, my carbs are contained, I’m getting regular exercise, and the sleep thing… just took care of itself (except for off days like this past Sunday!) I still ‘do’ caffeine, but way less Diet Coke than before, and since I now drink my coffee with a good bit of nonfat milk instead of flavored, sweetened creamer, it’s got to be weaker.  These might not be your issues but I thought I’d share. What mom gets enough sleep these days? None of my friends seem to.

Have you started a thread in the 100 days of Exercise section? I encourage you to do so; it was a great way for me to get started/invested on the site, even though my ‘click’ happened over a year before I signed on. I like having the ‘accountability’ about writing about my exercise. Makes skipping harder!

Even though you have great equipment at home, I’m wondering whether you miss the group fitness environment and that would be a good direction for you. Does that fit into your life? I think it helps if you can do what you like doing. Maybe some fresh music would inspire you to ‘ride’ that elliptical more.

How’s the weather in B.C.?

Peace and joy,

Ann

Hi, and thanks for the welcomes, guys!

Kilroyscarnival, you seem to know all the right questions! Yes...I have let my diet ... go (far far away) LOL and have way too many refined sugars and definately NOT enough protien. I know that is the key… Sometimes, since I know what should be done… I end up making these big elaborite plans (simular to my precontest diet LOL) and then leave it on paper because it doesn’t appeal to me. I have taken afew lessons from here to reground myself (granny gear / eat like a thin person / focus on the present, not the future) and have decided that this is going to happen one healthy meal at a time right now...and that is going to start with simply picking my protien before my carb at every meal. I know it will grow from there. So...for lunch, I pick fish. I’ll think about dinner while I’m eating fish…

I am also a caffine junky...man do I love coffee. I do occasionally sub for green tea...but coffee is my naughty habit. I do know that the more water I drink....the less coffee I drink. I usually drink 3 mugs a day…

I am going to join the 100 day Challenge today. I am guessing that you have as well. I look forward to reading your journey if its up!

As far as the gym...YES...I aboslutely miss the gym. I love the motivation and determination around me as I pump out each set. It does things that staying at home to work out can’t. At the moment the only time i could do this is in the early morning (5am) which i HAVE done for a year before, but have let go...to get that extra quiet time in with the hubby (3 small kids at home) I need to balance out,....and know that eventually (there is that future word!!) I will end up there. For now...home will do. I told Joel (hubby) that I would like to start working out with him at night as our “time together” He is interested. (He is a bit of a bodybuilder himself and we met at a gym. hehehe)

Weather in BC is...ugh rainy....but seems to be looking up finally. Hopefully summer will decide to show its face soon...The one good thing about cool and wet is that it is easy to run in...i don’t get too too hot yet.

How is Jacksonville? Wow...you picked a great place to be! Have you been there your whole life?

Jenn, hopefully you *like* fish. I was just thinking, making my lunch (big spinach salad with vinegar as the dressing, steamed veggies, three chicken strips) that I’m no longer really eating this solely to lose weight, it’s also what I like. I also like donuts, but you get the point. smile I think eating healthy foods that you like, not forcing foods you can tolerate, is key to making it work. Ditto with exercise that you enjoy, or done in an enjoyable way.

Jacksonville—today, warm and sunny. The other day a huge rainstorm. It’ll be stifling hot soon so I’m getting all the outdoor time in now, including lunch on the lawn at work. I’ve been here eight years, almot 14 in Orlando before that, but I grew up and went to college in Pennsylvania.  The winters are nice but the summers are sure humid… and part of me misses having mountains to look up to, a change of seasons, etc. On the other hand, I am finally taking advantage of being so close to the beach, when I can.  It’s great to walk the shoreline. And try not to get sunburn!

Peace and joy,

Ann

Welcome, Jenn! You share a name with my workout buddy, too cool! It’s great that your hubby will work out with you, extra incentive to keep going. How old are your kids?

Hello smile Thanks for the continued welcome....

Kilroyscarnival...yes, I absolutely love fish, and doughnuts too! But luckily I am never around those! My big problem is nighttime munching...not so much with icecream etc, since i try not to buy it (or i will eat it in 3 days!) but alot of naughty things like a soda cracker here and a banana there...a peanut butter piece of toast or two...and then i go to bed. That and I really need to stop “buying the kids” bagels....because they always land as a nice layer of fat on my butt instead! I am definately a carb junkie. Right now it is 7 and I know that i am going to want to start snacking soon...but NO...I am going to allow my body to eat my fat instead! LOL Well...I do plan to have one glass of wine! whoops!!!

Bree...I agree...I am so lucky that Joel (my hubby) is active as well. It movtivates me to be around him. He is in better shape than me and he works hard. He never tells me that...but i see him doing it and keeping his results year after year. Its inspiring...and its also nice that he will talk about all this stuff with me instead of sabotaging or rolling his eyes. I have 3 boys. One will be 11 in July, one is seven and the little guy is 3. They are all really active too...and i need some energy to keep up!! How about yourself? How old are your kids? Wow...youve been with MTM for quite awhile. That is nice to see…

Jenn, I can relate to the late night snacking urge. I live alone, so when I was starting my diet, I would simply go to bed early sometimes to avoid eating. I also all but completely gave up TV, partly due to working out in the evenings and partly because TV induces snacking in Annworld.

Hi Jenn,
Just want to add my belated welcome to MTM. You really have a very positive attitude and it sounds like your are doing pretty well so far. As far as night time munching goes I try to curb the urge by either brushing my teeth, because I’d hate to ruin my fresh mouth or chewing on a piece of sugarless gum. Sometimes that little bit of sweetness is all I need.
I look forward to reading more about your journey. Welcome!

Yup...good idea. I will do this tonight. Thanks for the welcome.

Kilroyscarnival...LOL weird you should mention TV. I cancelled the cable a week ago, so that the kids had more motivation to go play...but I am finding that it helps with so much more. That is a nother PRO to no TV for sure.

So I pulled out my scale from a packed box (we are moving) and UGH the batteries were dead....so I am off to buy some new ones… then I can post my before wieght....i think I am about 150 atm. Goal is 138 for now...135 for later. Mainly I want to get my running up, practice my good eating, and wear that bathing suit i put away...and a cute little size 6 pair of jeans. I refuse to say good bye to them forever.

I have 2 girls, one is 12 (Skeeter) and the other is 6 (Mouse). Well, those are the nicknames. Skeeter because she talks so fast it sounds like a mosquito in your ear and never stops going, and Mouse because she’s shy and loves cheese.

Do you have the size 6 pants, or do you have a pair in mind for when you get there?

Hello Scott! I must admit I am a little honoured (ok, a lot!) that you would post and say hello! Thank you smile Congradulations to you and Joi on your wedding! I’ve seen the pictures you posted smile It looks very beautiful and intimate…

I love the personal connection that I am recieving from the site and the podcasts! I haven’t felt this eager and excited to get the cardio on in quite some time....today was the first day in a long time that I was “dying” to get on my eliptical! (no babysitter...so no run today...usually in this case i would have done nothing...)

Looking forward to the book and all of the exciting things that seem to sprout forth from MTM! I’ll be here for a while! You kidding! I know a good thing when I see it!!
