I also found MTM through iTunes, but actually what I found was the Daily Boost.  On iTunes they only play Mondays though, and I got really curious about the rest of the week, so I signed up.  I have not been focusing on the Fitness side, but more the motivational.  I am American, originally from San Francisco, but I have been living for the past 10 years in Tokyo, Japan.  2 years ago I quit my job to go back to school - or rather two of them - MBA (distance learning, part time) and Japanese (to go for my advanced proficiency qualification).  Now that I am finishing these “projects” up, I need to start putting myself out there and finding what direction specifically I want to go in and get a job.  So the daily boost has been great motivation and food for thought as part of my daily life with these projects, and given me that extra reminder to stay on track and keep pushing forward one step, one action at a time.  THANKS!

Welcome to the site, Joyful! Scott does a great job of wording things just right, doesn’t he?

How long until you’re done with the schooling? From what you said, I gather its soon. Good luck!

Welcome to the MTM world! I’m a newbie myself, but I’m already convinced that this site is my best find in years!
What’s Tokyo like? How come you moved there?
That’s really great that you had the courage to quit your job and go back to school!
Good luck finding your way around the site, there’s a lot to see, read and be inspired by!

Thanks for the welcome.  Actually just finished school, as I turned in my dissertation on March 28th, and I took my qualification tests in Japanese at the end of last year.  So now I have to figure out my game plan for moving foward.  Feeling inspired by everyone’s exercise and diet plans on the site, and thinking that should be part of my life too.  Actually I have been walking a lot recently, as I am training for the upcoming OXFAM Trailwalkers event - walking 60 miles over 2 days, for a very worthwhile charity.  Definitely a good reason to get moving. smile

My major in college was Japanese Studies, so always planned to come here at some point.  Then half way through I met my husband who is Japanese, so it means staying for awhile.  smile

I have actually been a member for a few months or more, and really enjoying it.  Figured now was the time to check out the site and see if there were some other tools I could get into (now that I have a bit more time).

Fascinating, Joyful. What’s the biggest difference in living in Japan? And what was similar that you didn’t expect?

Its funny you should ask me that.  The word for surprise in Japanese is “bikkuri”.  And Japanese people often ask me what was the thing that suprised me the most.  My response has usually been the same.  There was no one big thing, but there are lots of little things.  The big things you prepare for and know about going in for the most part.  Especially in today’s global society and since I studied about Japan in school.  But lots of the daily living stuff and the stuff that people take for granted because they assume its “common sense” though it is not really common at all, especially when you go across cultures.  Even after living here for 10 years, its still like peeling back the layers of an onion - small bikkuri’s still keep popping up.

But Japan, and Tokyo especially, is a very modern city.  So many things about living in any large modern city in an industrialized nation holds true - just like living in New York City, London or Paris.  Its very expensive place to live, but its also very clean, comfortable, organized and convenient.

I have been listening to the daily boost every day on my iPod, while riding the train.  Its a great way to keep me inline with my goals.  That and I also listen to David Allen’s “Getting Things Done” and “Ready for Anything”.

Welcome!  I am “bikkuri"-shiteiru to find a fellow MTM’er from Tokyo too smile.

I completely get what you are saying.  Even after years, there are still surprises that come up from time to time.

Yeah, its great to see a fellow “Tokyoite”!  yeah!  And I see you are making fantastic headway on your 100 days.  Great work!  The weather has been miserable lately, running me in doors, but when it warms up again, I am back to walking.  I love taking long walks and checking out the city - always so much to see, and lots of little surprises.  smile Makes it not even feel like exercise.

Yeah, this isn’t the weekend to go anywhere.  I just finished watching the news.  Today was a historic record for rainfall this time of year.  And the wind blew over a crane in Chiba…

I’ll try to stay indoors this weekend as much as I can.  I’ve done my five days for the week smile.

Have a good, dry weekend.
