Rachel, you’re doing fantastic! Sorry to hear about the tendon, I’d say do the RICE treatment. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation until it feel better. Put some heat on it before you work out at all to loosen it up.
Now another obstacle is keeping me from working out--I’m sick. I’m hoping to be over it come Monday though, it’s pretty hard looking outside at the 70 degree weather here and not being able to really enjoy it.
I finally got back onto my exercise routine yesterday after being sick all weekend, thank goodness. Unfortunately, the achilles is still bothering me, so I can’t run...I have found a class at the gym that doesn’t strain it though, it’s just hard not being able to run in the beautiful 70 degree weather.
Now I’m off to the gym for some weights and an abs and glutes class.
Good to have you back! No fun being sick when it’s nice outside… and when it’s not nice outside too.
I’m just about to climb on to my treadmill!!
Enjoy your workout.
I was really consistent with my workouts all of last week....the weekend I didn’t make it to the gym, and let the diet slack a little, but I did do a lot of walking. And today I’m off to hit the elliptical and an abs/glutes class.
Today I mixed it up a little, since i’m getting a bit bored with the elliptical: only 20 minutes on the elliptical, then 5 minutes of abs, followed by 25 minutes on the bike. The only thing that turns me off about the bike is that it apparently burns fewer calories than other machines (even though I was sweating more than ever). Either way, I feel like I got a good workout.
So all this moaning and groaning about my aches and pains gets old, but I think that the pain in my achilles tendon forced me to walk in some strange way, throwing off my alignment so that now a muscle/tendon on the side of my knee is really tight/kinda painful. So I took the day off from the gym today, and am spending the next few days in Morocco!
So what I’m hoping is that, with no real gym time but presumably a lot of walking, my leg will loosen up so I’ll be fresh for the gym next week! Plus, this is going to be an ultimate challenge to see if I can keep my diet somewhat in control while I’m on this mini-vacation, which is pretty much always an issue for me.
SO I’m going to enjoy my vacation and eat to feel good, not to indulge. Let’s check back Sunday and see if that happened! I think I can do it…
I went for a run for the first time yesterday in like a month, because I’m finally feeling confident enough that my foot pain is gone...I am sore all over today, but it was so nice to be able to do that.
I’ve been hitting the gym as hard as possible, though stress from school always seems to get in the way. I’ve got a pretty low-stress path ahead of me though, and am planning to continue with my consistent regimen. I need to get my tight abs back before I go back to the US!
Since getting back home from Spain, I’ve discovered that I have a fractured sesmoid (a small bone in my foot), for which I have to wear a large boot for a number of weeks. That also means cutting out a lot of the exercise that I’ve always enjoyed doing, including biking, running, basketball, and the elliptical. Needless to say, it’s pretty discouraging. However, I’m working a lot with weights, and trying to walk more to get some sort of cardio. Hopefully I’ll be out of this soon so I can hit my exercise regime hard once again!
