Caloric Intake

Hey everyone, been a while since I posted here, and it’s good to be back.  I have been trying to hone in on my diet along with getting in that much needed cardio.

I have been working with an online fitness and diet tracking tool called Gyminee: http://www.gyminee.com
and it auto calculates what calorie intake you need to maintain.  Mine came up to 2500 - 3000 per day and I have been shooting for 1500 - 1700 with pretty good success.

I have checked on other calculators as well and they give similar results.  Doesn’t this seem really high for weight loss.

I am a 27 year old male.  214 lbs, 5’11’’.

Hey Kyle, I think what you said about having “great succes” is one of the keys to knowing what you are doing is right.  Everyone is very different and the calculators are flawed to some degree.  It sounds like 2500-3000 would be more of a maintenance intake if you continue working out daily.  Keep doing what works and makes you feel good.

Hi Kyle,

I’d say, go with what works for you!  I’ve you’re eating the wrong amount (whether too much or too little), your body won’t lose the weight.  It’s generally that simple.  So long as things are working out, go with that and not with what some computer online says!

I think you guys are reflecting my thoughts on the situation… it’s working so why not do it.  And as I listen to Scott each show and he is always saying usually somewhere around 1500 calories a day, I thought that was super high.

Hey Kyle -

Just picked up on this so I thought I would pop in.

You seem to have found the calorie intake that works for you and that’s the biggest part of success.  I say keep it up.

Personally - my BMR requires about 1700 per day - although I find I lose best around 1500 per day. 

Now, since I’ve reached my weight goals I have returned to a normal calorie intake of around 3000 per day.  I should note, this is with continued workouts.  If I were to reduce the workouts I would drop to 2500 to maintain my weight.

Good job on figuring what works best for you - that’s the true secret to success.

I looked at that site you posted, looks very impressive and I’m thrilled that it works for you.  I’m still in the learning process when it comes to Calorie Counting and Tracking my workouts...lol I use a Calorie Counting Book, note book/tracker, and pencil.  Die Hard Weight Watcher here who is learning to look at my Food Points vs Calories.  Hey before I forget CONGRATS on the Big 42 pound weight loss!!
