um...well...not really smile

Ok - so I asked Scott for help. I was stuck at 145lbs, eatin’ 1300 calories/day, doin’ lots of cardio, not nearly enough strength training.

So starting last week Monday, I up’d my calorie intake to 1400. Then I measured my chest, natural waist, lower abdomen (any woman out there that has had a kid(s) knows what I am talking about), upper thighs, above knees, calves and biceps.

Starting that Monday night, for six days, I focused purely on strength/weight training. Then today I measured my progress…

6.75” Gone! Poof! Disappeared!

I have not weighed myself and I did not use my Omron body fat analyzer. That’s next Monday.

Boo-Yah!

Carrie - very scientific! Now we can point people to this post when we need to convince them that giving your body enough fuel and adding strength training is the way to go.

I had a similar, but not as scientific, experience last summer. For a few weeks I was focusing a lot on weight training and hiking up the steep hills near my house. My scale wasn’t moving but my clothes were getting looser and my coworkers kept asking if I was losing weight.  Of course that was before I bought my Omron body fat tester, but it was easy to see what was happening.

It really is perplexing how people still don’t embracing strength training. It really is remarkable.

Congratulations on the progess and results, Carrie!

What lies ahead next? How are you going to continue using strength training to change your body?

I completely agree with you Wendy but as I told Scott - I was (and still am to a certain extent) fixated on the calories. Mathmatically I should have been losing weight but Scott mentioned I probably stalled myself which I would suspect is true.

What lies ahead? More strength training! I complete about 20 minutes of cardio and then 40 minutes of strength training with cool down stretching. I am focusing on sexier shoulders lol! But in all seriousness more defined muscle tone all over - I’m not afraid to look strong smile

Guess I better update myself wink

I haven’t stepped on the scale however I used my OMRON body fat analyzer http://MTM-Plug.notlong.com and I am down 1.25% to a flat 19%!!!! I thought I would never see below 20% with my stubborn genes.

I have come a long way in strength training. For instance when I first started - completing sets of push-ups I was doin’ them girly style: knees bent at 2 sets of 10. Now I have to challenge myself with having my feet elevated slightly higher than my hips completing 3 sets of 13. With the addition of raising my feet, I have really tuned into my breathing which results in a much slower rep rate. OW....IE! = HUGE transformations!

I have some good itune podcast video clips for ideas at “Video Fitnesscast with Mike Causadias” and I have utilized a book that is very simplistic but teaches a visual person such as myself how to train visually called; Teach Yourself Visually Weight Training and can be found at http://weightlifting.notlong.com.

I’m gearing up for my outdoor cycling *finally*. I have been spinning indoors and creating that “callous” for those long rides ahead.

As a reward for the changes I worked so hard for - I got myself a heart rate monitor as I can be quite obsessed with numbers. It’s coming today and I can’t wait to get my hands on it! It will be perfect for all the cycling/exercising I do: http://polar.notlong.com I got the female version “Blue Glow”.

And if you’re a cyclist this is dangerously tempting: http://www.polarusa.com/Products/Consumer/S725x.asp

*whew* This is fun tongue rolleye
