I am committed to moving 100 consecutive days!

Today I hiked with my doggies over snow and ice for 45 minutes and then I did strength-focused yoga for 30 minutes! YAY. I’m so excited to be here and MOVING! Thank you for the inspiration

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

Bree, Thanks for the welcoming words.

I have a HUGE, loving Great Dane (who is a lap dog of course); the sweetest and cutest little Beagle in the entire world (Westminster Dog Show included); and.... well....  then there’s Maggie: the fur-covered demon dog ... there’s always one *ahem* ‘problem’ child, isn’t there?  I figure that I will do one workout for/with them in the morning and then do another for myself later in the day. Looking forward to 100 days cheese

Ah, I have a beagle too! His name is Shiloh and he thinks he’s people. Then there’s Foxy, my demon dog, also covered in fur. She thinks its her job to jump on the back of your knee and bring you down so she can lick you. I can only imagine a Great Dane lap dog, bet it keeps you nice and warm!

Look forward to seeing you in the 100 days!

Welcome Aimee,

Strength forcused yoga? What kind? I do yoga most days myself.

3 dogs or children. Great you can walk with them and get a workout. Mine are cool down dogs. I have 3 also and Maggie, the silky terrior is a terror. She’s 6 lbs. of trouble. Colin, toy poodle and Elle, mini pinsher (a garbage disposal). All are lap dogs, which translates to being neck dogs when on a couch.

Good luck with your 100 days.

Days 2 and 3 and Strength-focused yoga

Day 2: I had to get up at O’dark 30 (read that as 5:AM) to take my doggies for their hike… I had to fly down to Las Vegas for the day and this was the only time I could ‘get moving’. However, I feel pretty smug and pleased with myself that I did it. hee hee

Day 3 (today) I woke up to snow… and more snow!!! It was tough to hit the trail this morning (7:AM). But, we (me and the doggies) did it. all I can say is, “Whew!!!” Glad that’s over. I enjoy powdery light snow much more than the wet gloppy snow that was falling (really hard) this morning.

Okay… Josie, Strength-focused yoga: Works the body core and large muscle groups.  This type of asana progression includes a lot of standing postures and body core strengtheners. It’s part of a method I am currently developing specifically for Westerners who are interested in delving deeper into a yoga practice than what their gym currently may offer.

I love the show INHALE for yoga....Steve Ross is good at making me help stay more flexible...and I sweat everytime!

Welcome to the forum Aimee!  I like your idea about walking your dog every morning, 45 minutes has to be one intense work out.  Does he pull you along the ice?  I’m from Michigan, land of snow and ice, have a Medium sized Shepard/Terrier, and loving this idea of yours…

Cant wait to read more!

THANK YOU so very much for all the encouraging words!!! THANK YOU! And big hugs to the doggie lovers (Suzie with your Shepard/Terrier; Josie and your three - Collin, Elle and (demon dog) Maggie; and another hug to the yoga practicers - Josie and Tom.

Day 4.... it was a ‘blistering’ 26 degrees in Reno at 6:30 this morning when the doggies and I took our hike.  Only 30 minutes today, but a memory full of colours that is forever painted on my mind’s canvas:

My majestic black Great Dane, ChenPo and his companion, the 4-Legged Lucifer, Maggie - also black - standing together like two canine punctuation marks, exclaming their excited presence on the side of the white snow covered hill…

the new orange sun just topping the ridge line to the east… throwing brilliant red rays of dawn all across the snow covered mountains to the west ...

today’s black blue sky, yawning and struggling to wake up ...

salmony-pink fresh morning shadows playing on the trail’s crispy white snows…

The colours were so incredibly vibrant and vivid. I am grateful to have been out there today with my iPod, listening to the Daily Motivation podcast. So grateful to be alive and working on day 4!  Again, thanks for all the encouragment!

Day 5. Another beautiful day in paradise. *sigh* We don’t usually get snow AND fog at the same time. On the trail, it makes it staying upright quite interesting. But, me and the doggies did it… 45 minutes today at a brisk pace on a day where night simply lightened to a morning grey.  (Last night I even managed to sneak in 30 minutes of yoga to work my core muscles)

Tom, I have to do my asanas after my doggies are asleep… otherwise there are pawprints all over my mat! Maybe they are trying to tell me they want their own mats… I have noticed them practicing updog and downdog rather a lot lately...hhhmmmmmm

Looks like you did wonderful for your Friday workout, and I just love how you work around your babies.  LOL @ wanting their own mats… they just might!

Have a great evening!

Day 6: Another scorcher here in delightful suburban Reno… a whopping 16 degrees, this morning. I learned to appreciate the cold as a great motivation to move really fast or freeze! Consequently, we covered a whole lot of trail in 45 minutes.

Later this evening, I’ve got some upper body yoga asanas planned. Right now, though, I’m just watching it snow!

Great job, Aimee! There’s no way you’d find me out there in those temps, I love your commitment. I bet the doggies do, too!

*whew* has life been trying to de-motivate me or what?!?

Well, HA! I’m committed to this not merely interested in it!

So, I have’t taken a day off yet. I tried to explain the whole “rest day” but the doggies simply could not grasp that concept so, despite the snow (1½ feet) and the temps, and especially despite all the crazy short fuses on all the bombs that have been landing at my feet, I have moved a minimum of 45 minutes a day for days 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 - we all took a hike and on days 9 and 11 we did pushups. Okay, I did the pushups. ouch. My upper body is just not used to that!
YAY!

Rest days are important...or at least not working as hard as you usually do....less heartrate and all…

and pushups...what a GREAT exercise! ...but you do get sore!  Just keep em up....your body does adapt (then you just get to more!)

Keep going, and have fun!
