So sorry to hear about your friend’s sister. It’s so important to keep up with our health. I’ll be thinking of her.

Great workouts. Hopefully you’ll get your treadmill in.

Thanks, Emmi! I didn’t this morning, got three loads of laundry done before work (I’d been procrastinating), at lunch I ran and voted (Florida presidential primary), and the next chance I’ll have is tonight. But I think I won’t give up tonight, if I have any ‘juice’ left I’ll just wait and scare off those jocks!

Thanks, Emmi. I have thought about her quite a lot. On the flip side of this depressing topic, last night I talked a bit with one of our new attenders, who happens to be a two-year survivor of breast cancer, with the BEST possible attitude and vitality, and she’s throwing herself into the Jazzercise classes (6x a week, whew, I didn’t do that till after 6 months!). She was so great to talk to, and like all the newbies, she remotivates me along the way.

Tue 1/28 (Day 42): 7pm Jazzercise class. Was asked to stay after and help organize some flyers/paperwork into packets, which took about 2 hours, so didn’t hit the treadmill again. Oh, well, tonight I will. Still didn’t toddle up on the scale, but not down either. It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon.

1/29 (Day 43): my ‘free’ night, with no chiro or Jazzercise, so I hit the treadmill. Managed to coax three miles out of myself at a decent walk throughout, in just over 50 minutes (and not just UNDER 50 as I’d hoped.) Inclines throughout including about ten minutes at max. Wrist weights in the beginning and towards the end. I worked up a good sweat. Did a little weight work on the arms and quads. I need more ‘free’ evenings like this to get ahead, I guess.

Didn’t mean to respond to Emmi twice, but I thought the other post had gone missing. Sometimes when I post from home it cycles to a blank message box. Probably browser settings I haven’t figured out how to fix yet.

Great job on the treadmill.
You can respond to me as many times as you like! I don’t mind!  grin

1/31 (Day 44): I think I got off a day somewhere there. Anyway, Thursday, Jazzercise class. I finally wore this skimpy Jazzercise top with tank straps and half my back exposed. I didn’t pick the top out, but one of my instructors ordered a bunch of Jazzertogs, and this one was too big for her little frame, so I bought it from her rather than have her return it. I’ve been chicken to wear it. I kept my little cardigan on until I was warmed up.  I felt half-naked, especially being in the front of the class.  But good to get over that feeling, I guess.  I never wear stuff that revealing, partly because I’ve been overweight and partly because (at least I can imagine) you can see the top of the scar which runs along my spine, from the spinal fusion I had 30 years ago this summer.

Well, made it through class. And afterwards, one of the younger newer people told me I inspired her, partly because she’s impressed that I do the first half or so of the aerobic set with the wrist weights on. Again, the whole front-of-the-class thing, I try harder when I know people can see me.

I managed to squeeze in 20 minutes of treadmill time when I got back, before my wonderful hot shower, but I didn’t really push it. Was truly feeling tired and didn’t want to end up sore.

Fri 2/1 (Day 45): Long day at work, then chiropractor, then a real treat, a small dish of espresso gelato. Then, three miles on the treadmilll, this time in under 48 minutes, pushing it. Good music helped. Some arm and quad work. I know, that’s all I seem to do on the weight machine down there, but the one that requires pushing up with the legs seems risky on the back, and I always feel too short for the other arm one. Besides, I think the Jazzercise classes do work the other muscles pretty well, though I must remember to get out the resistance bands once in a while and work the upper back muscles some more.

Sat 2/2 (Day 46): double Jazzercise classes. Second one tough, as it was really fast-paced, and I had mild cramps going on, but I stuck it out. Note to self: maybe a cotton t-shirt is not a good idea for a double class morning. (It was a flimsy green shirt, and was soaked almost 100% over by the time I was finished.) Enjoying my grande non-fat latte with one-pump sugar-free-hazelnut syrup, hot this week as it’s on the cool side out. I want a nap, but I’ll get more done if I don’t have one till later, so I hope the coffee kicks in.  Happy Groundhog Day!

Wow, a weekend double up. Good job, Ann. How was the rest of your weekend? Did you buy some microfiber gym clothes? Those will help you stay much drier.

Yes, I hope to do the double classes as often as I can. I first did two right before Christmas, when I had the cold, only because friends showed up for the second one and we were talking, and I just stayed to be sociable. It’s actually not that hard unless something is a particularly hard muscle workout in the first one, like that overhead tricep routine we were all doing for a while. Doubling up on that is tough.

Rest of my weekend was pretty good. I got some errands done, and was going to go to a 330p movie, but it was so nice and sunny out that I threw the iPod and went for a little walk instead. It wasn’t an exercise walk so much as a relaxing experience; hadn’t done that in a while. Since I had also splurged on a hamburger and fries (budgeted into my calories, but that was a big indulgence), I was glad of the extra walking.  Didn’t buy any new workout clothes, though I would like to soon. Instead my big indulgence (other than some great fresh produce) was a new, hotter-temp flat-iron. My hair is very thick and coarse and gets curlier as it’s been going grayer, and this one gets the job done so much more efficiently than the old one. I do wear it curly some days, and wouldn’t want to iron it every day, especially with working out so often.

Hope your weekend was great, Emmi! I did miss my weekend afternoon naps, but kept myself busy and resisted the urge. smile

I would imagine that doubling up on weights would be hard. Don’t hurt yourself, okay? Sounds like you got lots of moving in this weekend. Good for you! I love my hair iron. I use it at least 2x/week. I hope you have a great rest of the week.

Thanks! I’m pretty careful about overstraining with the weights. Especially now that I use the wrist weights (only 2lb each, but WOW with the arm movements we do, they get the heart rate up faster) in class, I don’t always go for the heavier weights anymore, and on double-class mornings, I back down to what I can handle.

Yes, this was a pretty active weekend, though I took Sunday as a rest day. I’d intended to do the treadmill during the Super Bowl, but my calves were feeling a little sore, so I had a warm bath and then watched Jane Austen on PBS instead.

Hope your week is great too, Emmi!

Mon 2/4 (Day 48): 7pm Jazzercise class. Actually, arrived early enough to do some of the stretching and toning at the end of the 5:30 class, mostly just to warm up as the room was chilly.

Wed 2/5: rest evening. After a good chiro visit, I went to a movie, on a weeknight yet. Felt weird. The evening just flew by.

Thu 2/6 (Day 51): Jazzercise class, 7pm. I got there early enough that I did the stretching/toning routines of the 5:30p class to warm up gently. I feel like the 2lb wrist weights are helping, not only to get my heart rate up, but also gently toning my arms along with the dumbbell work. I’m really putting on some delt muscles, which with my small shoulders looks good, frame more in proportion.I have to get back to working the upper back muscles more regularly with the resistance band.

You’ve been doing a great job of being consistent with your exercising.

I agree with Emmi about the gym clothes. I have a feeling you’ll get to them eventually. The microfibers are great and it’s just so much better wearing clothes that move as you’re trying to move. Back when I was doing Jazzercise we were wearing tights and leotards (and at that point I didn’t have gray hair). The only good part about that outfit was that the sweat could evaporate off the exposed parts of the upper body.

Thanks, Joan! I think being the support person for the 7pm classes helps, but it also helps that I enjoy Jazzercise. The treadmill nights, the non-class nights, I tend to be a little less consistent. I’d like to have done the treadmill every night I didn’t do the class, but that doesn’t always happen.

Yes, I would like to get some new workout clothes. I’m a bit of a tightwad, and so I wear what I have most of the time, but I’d like to have a few things that really fit and look good as well as feel good. Most of my dresses from last summer are a bit baggy, and one or two I am now ‘altering’ by way of a ponytail band and a bunch of fabric (classy, but on the inside so no one sees really.) I haven’t seen that much that looks “different” in the stores, but I haven’t looked much either.

I read your threads and your doing awesome with your activities. Very Motivating! Living in Michigan I had to learn to like my treadmill and its an ongoing quest for me; I prefer walking outside in the fresh air. Brrrrr, thinking Spring! Thank goodness for video’s....

I’m so sorry to read about the lady with the Breast Cancer, hopefully they caught it in time. Keep us posted okay?

Until then, its so very nice to meet you.

Thanks, Suzzy! Nice to ‘meet’ you too. I feel like journaling about exercise has made me more positive about it. I too love my iPod (Shuffle).

I haven’t heard much about Mary’s sister since the initial news. Perhaps on Saturday.

Saturday, February 9 (Day 53, already? How is that possible?)

-- Jazzercise classes at 8a and 915a

Two good sessions. Plus, the shoe order came in and I got my new Ryka Mary Janes (black, identical to the pair I’ve been wearing out but wow do they feel different!). And today was the last big push to get us to donate to the Komen “for the Cure” fundraiser. My original idea was to donate on my one-year anniversary, but it seems that was mid-January, not the end of January as I’d thought, so instead I wrote a check this morning for one dollar for every pound I’ve lost. Technically, I probably lost 30 or so just by dieting before I started working out, but I gave the $70. Told Cherie if I hadn’t had a “fat morning” she’d have gotten $3 more, and I was back down those three pounds by the time I got home.

Had my nonfat latte on the way home, showered, changed, and roamed around St. Augustine this afternoon. It was leisure-walking, but such a nice Florida day. I wore a polka-dot skirt and black top, not really overdressed but not tacky-tourist either. I felt like a Breck girl. Well, a bit short for a Breck girl, they were all gorgeous Amazons, weren’t they? Truth is, I really need to buy slacks and jeans again, and the skirts are the things that fit me best at the moment. I looked at some clothes on the way home but didn’t buy any outerwear, just some new undies (a second Champion sports bra, and some BarelyThere microfiber boyshorts, which are good for workouts, and yet more socks).

Monday, February 11 (Day 55): Jazzercise class, 7pm. Good workout as usual. I picked up the eight-pound dumbbells, which I hadn’t done lately. Have to step it back up to get used to working with them. I took them home with me (been keeping them at the center) and will take them to the office to use on little breaks.

Tried to be pretty buttoned-up on the eating today, especially as I was hungrier from eating somewhat more over the weekend, I guess. Will have to try to sustain the smaller, more frequent meals over the weekend next time.
