Day 21

60 minutes LSB

30 minutes Bowflex

Another first today - I maxed out my Bowflex (210 pounds) with my leg extensions, squats, and deadlifts. I never thought I would do that! Now I have to think about getting the extra 100 pound rods! Cool!

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

Nothing wrong with pulling back after a hard workout!

You sound like your pushing yourself, which is good, and you know when to pull back, which is good.

So much we can learn from you Deb!

Thanks!

Way to push it, Deb! The cold weather has me sleeping more lately, could that be what’s up for you? Like a natural hibernation thing. Is the scale still behaving? Mine appears to be stuck, still. Logged my food and figured out why. I’m eating a ton! Seems like too much or too little is so much easier than just right.

Way to go with the Bowflex, Deb. Now it seems like you’re finding some other accomplishments to enjoy.

Day 24

60 minutes LSB

30 minutes yoga

Thanks Tom...it’s funny I didn’t think of it quite that way. I pushed that weight and barely made one rep, and thought, uh, maybe I’d better lighten that just a bit, I’ll never make 12 reps at that weight!

Thanks Bree ... and since you’re too polite to come right out and ask...the scale is being quite stubborn. I think I’m eating too much too; Scott had me cut my workouts practically in half, and add calories too...It just seems like too much. I think I’m going to try cycling my calories; 1700 on Bowflex days, 1500 the non Bowflex days, and see if I can’t just jar things loose...After all, Scott’s Loose 7 pounds in 7 days says don’t go over 1600 calories…

Thanks Joan...accomplishments other than the dreaded S-C-A-L-E you mean? Yes… My grandson Elijah heard I maxed out the Bowflex. I’m not sure he understood “maxed out”, but he did say, “I’ll bet you can lift me now Gramma, now that you’re strong!”

Yes, I did mean other than the “s c a l e.” I find if I switch my focus it’s easier to keep going. I’ve been stuck in the same place for so long that I was getting disgusted before Christmas--but not disgusted enough to figure out what to do about it. When I get home, I’ll check out Scott’s, “Lose 7 pounds in 7 days” info although I’d be happy to lose 7 pounds in 7 weeks. I have found that working towards the bench press competition gave me something else to focus on which is good. My progress there has kept me motivated and your triumph over the Bowflex could do the same for you.

Day 25

60 minutes LSB

30 minutes Bowflex

I don’t know how long you’ve been stuck, Joan, I’ve been since August… so I do understand the frustration… I listened to Scott’s 7 pounds in 7 days, and it sounded an awfully lot like what I was doing since August, until he cut me back from working that hard...argh...very frustrated…

My Bowflex took longer than usual today because apparently Elijah was more impressed with “maxing out” the Bowflex than I first thought. First he asked if it was as much as him, and I told him it was more than his papa, almost as much as me. He was properly impressed! Then of course, he had to try it out too. He did the leg extension first at 5 pounds, but that was too easy, then at 20 pounds, but thought that was a bit hard, 10 pounds seemed just right to him.

Day 27

Scheduled Rest Day

We went door shopping today. A couple of years ago a trip to Home Depot was a very exhausting experience; not so any more. Ah, the simple pleasures!  grin

Day 28

60 minutes LSB

30 minutes Bowflex

and we all know the first three letters in FUNctional, right Joan!  cheese

It is kind of fun inspiring Elijah Bree! Although his papa (my son, Jacob) takes good care of himself -yoga, hiking, roller blading, etc… Elijah was getting good enough on his bike last fall that he was just starting to go out with Jacob on his roller blade excursions. Jacob is thin, well, to be honest, he’s a bit skinny! I often wondered how he could grow up thin having parents who both weighed over 300. Before they moved in with us, I’d probably have said, “Oh, he’s just naturally thin.” But I’ve been observing him since they moved in. I watch what he eats, I watch how much he exercises...he seems to self regulate. If he eats a bit more than usual, the next meal he eats a bit less than usual. And I now understand Scott when he talks about Joi who’s never gained more than a couple of pounds. I’m sure people have called her “naturally thin” too. I’ve come to the conclusion that “naturally thin” just means they don’t have a “relationship” with food. Jacob eats ice cream when it’s in the house, and he enjoys it. But a bowl is enough, it doesn’t call to him to eat more and more. Well, I don’t know that for a fact, but if it does call him, he is the one in control, not the ice cream… Anyway, that’s my thoughts on “naturally thin”! But I’m not in a position to know...yet…
