Today is Day 1 of my 100 days of exercise. Current weight: 203lbs.
Hello, my name is Jenna. I’m 23 years old and live in Brockville, Ontario. I am also a first year nursing student and now feel that taking better care of my body is an investment in my future in a job that can sometimes be physically demanding. I’ve just returned from a 30 min swim at the pool and feel great. I think the only thing to do now is keep moving.
I have been listening to Scott’s podcasts since last January and I find the ‘long slow burn’ part of my exercise breezes by with him coaching me through it. And so...I have also purchased the Master Vault and look forward to going through the archived podcasts during my 100 days of exercise.
My current goal for my 100 days of exercise is to loose one dress size (which may be the equivalent of 15-20 lbs lost.) I will know I’ve acheived this goal when I can fit back into my favourite pair of pants because I feel that taking body measurements all the time is just too complicated. It is also my goal to feel more energetic overall.
Congradualations to all of the forum members who are finding success through this challenge. You posts motivate me everyday.
Welcome to the group...keep up the press and you’ll make your goal...we all know what your going through with the job that kills all your time, and all have had to make some consessions as to how we do our workouts. You’ll figure it out and before long you’ll be in those pants.
Welcome Jenna! You really enjoy all of those podcasts. I think in the begining hearing Scott was the only thing that got me up and moving. It looks like we’re about the same weight. Don’t you hate hovering around the 200 mark? Good luck! Keep doing it!
I was really feeling sore after my swim yesterday morning, but the good kind of sore.
Thank you for the encouraging comments. Yes, it’s awful hanging around the 200 mark. When I noticed that I had crossed into the 200’s (for the second time in my life) well...it almost felt like I’d gained 100 lbs all at once. But you know, that number on the scale is partly what propelled me into action.
Oh and one other thing as well...I just found out two days ago that my father will need triple bipass surgery. Maybe that event has made me take a closer look at my lifestyle choices too.
Hi Jenna, welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your Dad. It is so true, as Scott says, that Dr’s are the motivators of last resort. Hope all goes well with your father.
I was active today because I was on my feet for 8 hours at my nursing placement, but to be honest to this exercise challenge, I would have to call today a day of rest because there was no ‘intentional’ exercise.
I have a membership at one of our local gyms and tomorrow will be my first day back since Christmas. I’ve missed it actually. I’ve missed the routine of going to the gym.
It was one of those days where the opportunity to exercise just presented itself.
I woke up to a small blizzard outside, and by 10:00am 25cm of snow was lying on the driveway. As I struggled to start our snowblower, I thought to myself, what am I doing? I put the snowblower away and returned with my shovel. The driveway to 5X longer to clear (1 hour), but did I raise my heart rate? Yes!
I’ve taken up a dog-sitting job (a labrador retriever). Let me just say, that dog didn’t care if I was tired; she pulled me right along. Eventually, she slowed down a little and we enjoyed a 30 minute walk together.
I think ‘dog people’ must be in better health in general, all that walking and all that fresh air, and of course, the unconditional love, too.
Hi Jenna. I think it’s cool how you make everyday activities part of your exercise. Sometimes that’s the best way to get yourself going again. Shoveling snow, walking dogs, etc.... these activities will really help you get to your goal when you incorporate it with the gym. You’re doing great! Keep it up!
Hi Jenna, welcome to the 100 day challenge. As you can see from my avatar I am a dog person. Unfortunately I am not fit. Scratch that. I am not as fit as I want to be (but I am fitter than I was). I have two chocolate labradors and they are my babies. Both mad as a brush but very, very loving.
It sounds like you are off to a great start. Like Emmi said, it is about making moving a part of your life. Just keep on keepin’ on.
Yesterday, when the wind was too cold for my tolerance levels, I finally made it to the gym (which is open until 10:00 p.m. now, by the way.) Scott mentioned that morning exercisers tend to be more fit than evening exercisers. Well, I sure hope I can be an exception to that rule, because my gym doesn’t open until 8:00 a.m. and I often need to be at school for 8:30.
I’d like to find a time that I can go to the gym consistently so that it can also become a part of my regular life. Right now that time seems to be 8:00 p.m.. Maybe I will sleep more soundly after evening exercise.
You have to do what works for you. If your schedule allows a workout in the evenings then do it in the evenings. Just as long as you keep on moving is what is truly important.
