Hi! I’m officially starting tomorrow. Today is all about planning and preparation.  red face There really is no good reason to wait until tomorrow...feeling a bit scattered and disorganized....hence the excuse “Today is all about planning and preparation!”
I found the Scott’s podcast on iTunes and have been listening on and off for a couple of months - I recently became a premium member.
My history includes being very overweight for most of my adult life, currently 125 pounds heavier than I should be. Lost 50 pounds on Medifast 10 years ago...gained it back and some extra. Lost 60 pounds on NutriSystem 8 years ago...gained it all back and some extra. Lost 60 pounds on Jenny Craig 5 years ago...gained it all back and some extra. Lost 100 pounds two years ago on weight watchers...gained it all back and some extra. Ouch! that one really hurt. I walked a half marathon (4 hours) and a whole marathon (8 hours) last year in my quest to lose weight. Survived them both but hung on to the weight. I recently signed up for the Komen 60 mile/3 day in San Diego in November. My plan is to train and eat healthy between now and then....hopefully learn a few life lessons along the way and figure why I don’t want to keep the weight off.

Things I’ve learned along the way....journal everything I eat, exercise at least every other day, stay hydrated, eat quality foods as close to their natural state as possible (the more processed the less healthy), don’t give up - keep trying.

I’m envisioning a long and bumpy road and looking for some travel mates to keep me on the right path and moving in the right direction!!

Hi Cathy -

Welcome to the forum!  I think it is good to take a planning day and figure out what you’re going to eat, how you’re going to work out, reflecting on what you have learned in the past.  And good that you are starting tomorrow and not waiting for the new year!

You are right, it is a bumpy journey.  We all fall off the wagon from time to time.  It’s all about climbing back on, and learning how to stay on.  So you’ll have lots of friends here to keep you company, encouraging you and cheering you on.

Welcome Cathy! A day for planning and prep is a good idea. What area are you focusing on first?

Hi Laura, Hi Bree
Thanks for the welcome!!!
Tomorrows focus (yeah I know that’s a little narrow but for now it’s one day at a time) is to move with purpose (exercise) and eat with thought (pay attention to what I am eating and why I am eating).
I have listened to the coaching calls and the orientation for SMSM and I will listen to Keep the Vision along with several other of Scott’s podcast that I had downloaded but haven’t listened to yet while I walk around the neighborhood tomorrow. I plotted a nice three mile stroll with minor hills using MapMyRun.com.  My plan is to slowly but steadily decrease the amount of time it takes me to complete the stroll until the point where I can start stop calling it a stroll and start calling it my workout.  MapMyRun.com shows altitude along with distance so I hope to steadily increase the challenge of the walk as well. But that’s looking too far ahead right now. cheese

Great plan! Small attainable goals will get you farther than trying everything at once (took me 6 times to figure that out). Have a wonderful stroll!
