I am new to all of this and for the first week I was on track and ready to roll.  This week has been a different story I have been snowed/iced in with my girls for the past 3 days and today is the first day back to work, needless to say I bombed on working out instead I just ate and ate and ate.  I feel like I have failed but I know I need to pick myself back up.  I am just lost right now.  Help!!

Hi Chantal.

I hear ya.

Please don’t beat yourself up. You can use this as a learning experience. It takes time, and “the click” can be very elusive, to say the least. Just keep moving. Reflect on the fun you had being home ‘round the holidays’, or the cleaning you got caught up on, or something else emotionally uplifting.

If you don’t quit, you can’t fail.

Smiles & Hugs,
Frank

It is really easy to get into a funk.  All you can do is take one day at a time and think about what you want, why you want it, and how you are going to get it.  Perhaps if you focus on taking one day at a time and try to do one good thing for your health each day, whether it is a 20 minute walk, or subbing out chips for a salad.  Keep it simple and you should be fine.  Also, keep us posted, frequent posting can be an accountability thing too!!

Frank, Thank you for that but not sure what you mean by “the click” I’ve heard that numerous times on the Daily Boost with Scott but not sure what that means.  Thanks for the uplifitng message I am going to look at it a different way not that I didn’t work out but I spent quality time with my girls and that is a plus.

Thanks again,
Chantal

Sorry to here that and we all can go through those times.  What helps me workout when I’d rather do anything else is to tell myself I will only do ten minutes.  I have several dvd’s with ten minute segments you can program to your specification.  I may put in ten minutes of pilates or abs, etc. and I find once that is done I’m feeling better and energized and go on to do more.  If it is in the am and I need to get to work well at least I have ten minutes in.  It is amazing how much you can do in ten minutes with dumbbells, a fitness ball, etc.

Ten Minute Solutions is a great series and they even carry them at Walmart so easy to find plus I just bought some Tamilee Webb and others t hat I haven’t used yet - an early holiday gift to myself.

Good luck we all backslide, heck I regained 10 lbs of 60 I lost but know it will come off again and more with just some attention, I’ve been working out but not as strict on food/supplements so I do know what it takes for me to be successful.  I get down on myself when I can’t breathe in some slacks, etc. but you know sh*t happens and sometimes the road to good health is not a linear path, they’ll be bumps along the way.

Happiness is an attitude. We either make ourselves miserable, or happy and strong. The amount of work is the same.

Hi Chantal,

First, welcome to MTM-land, because I don’t think I’ve welcomed you before.  It’s great to have you here.

Second, don’t worry!  Minor road blocks are just that, minor.  If you had a bad three days, make it up by having a good four days.  I know it’s tough being snowed in (I’m in Montreal and we’re in the middle of a major snowfall—35 cm / 14”!): not fun!  On the other hand, there’s lots of stuff you can do at home, and once the snow settles, there’s lots of stuff you can do outside, too.  If you’re stuck inside, try to find things to take your mind off the tedium (and kitchen!), and you may find you eat less and enjoy yourself more.

Finally, “the click.” Scott talks about it a lot, but it may seem strange to those who haven’t heard it before.  You may also know it as “the lightbulb moment.” Think of cartoons: it’s that moment when a character suddenly gets a breakthrough thought and a lightbulb pops up over his head.  That’s “the click”: that moment of epiphany when suddenly everything makes sense.  It might be a long time in coming, but suddenly one day you look up and realize, “I understand how this all works!” It’s a wonderful moment.  (It doesn’t mean, of course, that you won’t backslide a bit after “the click,” but it does mean that at least you’ll really understand what you’re doing.)

I hope this helps!  Please keep coming back and telling us how things are going.  You may want to start a thread on the “Journal of Your Journey” forum to keep us all updated.

Cheers,
Julie
