On the suggestion of other runners on this site, I started to listen to the Phedippidations podcast by Steve Runner. He started something called the world wide half marathon. It’s a free event, run wherever you want to on a specific weekend. There is also a 5K event, for the same weekend. http://www.worldwidehalf.com/cgi-bin/wwhalf/home
I know better than thinking I could do a half marathon right now, but I could do a 5k, and Tom has been asking me when I was going to sign up for one. My options are limited in my rural setting, but this is perfect! I’ll be running with hundreds of other people from around the world, all of us doing so just to do it. Shawn has joined me, and we have a team: Team MTM.
So, October 13 or 14 (either day is great) please join us for our 5K with others from everywhere. You can do this.
Hi Bree,
I listen to Steve Runner too (really cool podcast!)....and am going to do a 5K for that weekend or the later weekend....(maybe I’ll try 13 miles.....but that seems a little much for me just yet too!)
I love hearing him during the podcast....breathing and talking about how it is to run, and life in general.
so you and Shawn are doing team MTM?....we should send it in to Steve!
2 years ago on my 32nd birthday (Oct 15) I ran in the USATF Oklahoma State Championship Half Marathon in Madill, OK. I don’t remember the circumstances around it but I remember it was an unusually small field and I ran a great race. Well, long story short, I finished 10th overall and got my name in the official 2005 USATF record books (they list the top 10 in every state). Funny thing is, I live in TX.
Well, unfortunately I wasn’t able to go back the next year to try to repeat the effort. But it just so happens that the race this year falls on Oct 13th. So, pending an injury, I will be at the starting line this year representing TEAM MTM.
Kevin, that’s awesome to have placed 10th! Way cool.
Tom, we’ve created our team on the site, but it would be cool to e-mail Steve and let him know what an impact he’s had on this community. I just started listening, so you should do the honors.
Yay! Phedippidations is the bomb! I would really like to train for a half but I don’t have time right now! Still cool though! I’m so excited for you all!
Wow, Bree and Shawn, I’m pretty sure everyone on the site will hear about this now thanks to your signatures. Very subtle! I’ll have to go check this out.
I just signed up for the 5k! I’m 796, creativetheorist. I have been listening to Phedip all this time and I can’t believe i had no intentions of joining this race! I going to run on my school track to that I’ll know my time!
I’m registered for the World Wide Half, runner number 322.
My training schedule has me running 24 miles Sunday Oct 14. We do have a nearby 20K (about 12 miles) in Georgia, I’m debating weather to alter my training schedule, or just go ahead and measure out the half marathon distance around home here. Not sure what I’m going to do.
Glad to be on TEAM_MTM with all you wonderful people.
