Hi there!  I have been “lurking” on this site for a while now, having joined a few months ago.  Now it is time for me to take a more active role.  I determined when I turned 50 (more than a year ago) that it was time for me to get fit.  I first had to lose some weight - at 5’5” I was over 220 lbs; I’m now down below 170 and heading to 150, thanks to diet and exercise.  This summer I joined a gym for the first time ever, and have had several sessions with a personal trainer to learn how to use all of the equipment.  Today was my last session, now I have to motivate myself.  What better way than this challenge?!

Day 1 - Monday, August 13, 2007
- Gym - 10 min warm-up on the treadmill; half an hour doing weights with personal trainer; stretching
- Home - treadmill - LSB for an hour (3.2 miles), listening to SMSM Day 1 and the Daily Boost; stretching

Hi Sandy and welcome

I’m glad you’ve delurked.  Congratulations for making the decision to get fit.  It’s never too late.  I’m also over 50, and it’s amazing how good it feels to be active.

Great workout for day 1.  You are so lucky to have a treadmill at home.  I wish I had room for one.

Hi Sandy!

What perfect timing for you to start your challenge just as your personal training sessions end.  I’ll bet you’ll be amazed at how much progress you’ll make just by moving one day at a time.  You’ll reach Day 100 before you know it.

P.S.  I’m in training to be 50 in just over a year.  LOL

Welcome, Sandy! I hear 50 is amazing, so I’m going to train for the next 20 years to try and attain that level of brilliance.  wink Great job so far!

Welcome, Sandy. It’s great that you’ve joined us.

I’m in training to be 60 so I’m a bit ahead of you. When people ask what I’m doing, I tell them that being an old lady isn’t enough for me. I want to be a fit old lady. After all, I don’t have any control over my age but I do have something to say about the shape I’m in!

I’m happy to hear there are a few of us at this end of the age spectrum.  And with such enthusiasm!  I do like the way it feels to be active - it’s when I stop moving, and then start up again, that I feel a little creaky! rolleyes

Day 3 - Wednesday, August 15, 2007
- Gym - 10 min warm-up on the treadmill; resistance (chest and back, abs); elliptical - 20 minutes (1.46 miles); stretching
- Home - treadmill - LSB for an hour (3.17 miles), listening to SMSM Day 3 and the Daily Boost; stretching

Great job with your exercise. People of all ages are enthusiastic here on the forum. And they are real about the ups and downs. However, as Scott says, we just have to keep moving to have success.

Obviously you’re keeping track of what you are doing as far as exercise goes because you are able to post it later. Keep up the good work.

Yes, I track my weight, exercise, etc.  Not so good lately about tracking what I eat (and suspect I am eating too much as a result!) and need to get back to that.  But posting all of this takes my accountability to a whole new level!

Day 18 - Thursday, August 30, 2007
- Golf - 9 holes, walking ~ before it was too cold and wet to continue (I’m a fair weather golfer)
- Home - treadmill - LSB for an hour (3.16 miles), listening to SMSM Day 15 and the Daily Boost; stretching
