These are all running related…

“Every morning in Africa a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must move faster than the lion or it will not survive. Every morning a lion wakes up and it knows it must move faster than the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn’t matter if you are the lion or the gazelle, when the sun comes up, you better be running.”

“There are clubs you can’t belong to, neighborhoods you can’t live in, schools you can’t get into, but the roads are always open.”

“If you start to feel good during a marathon, don’t worry you will get over it.”

“You have to forget your last marathon before you try another. Your mind can’t know what’s coming.”

“I always loved running...it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs.” - Jesse Owens

Hello everyone,

These are a few of my favorites.

“We create our own destiny with our choices and decisions. We can base these decisions upon the awareness of our inner truth or we can base them on reactions to outer circumstances. This power always belongs to us. No one can take it from us.”
Gail Pursell Elliott

If you develop the absolute sense of certainty that powerful beliefs prove, then you can get yourself to accomplish virtually anything, including those things that other people are certain are impossible.
Anthony Robbins

“Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off the goal.”
Henry Ford

We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake . . . by an infinite expectation of the dawn, which does not forsake us in our soundest sleep. I know of no more encouraging fact than the unquestionable ability of man to elevate his life by a conscious endeavor.
-Henry David Thoreau

I was reviewing my goals values and mission statement today and decided to make this my mission in life.  It’s actually an adaptation from a birthday card I received several years ago:

I Promise

To be so strong that nothing can disturb my peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person I meet.
To make all my friends feel that there is something in them.
To look at the sunny side of everything and make my optimism come true.
To think only of the best, to work only for the best and expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as I am about my own.
To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature I meet a smile.
To give so much time to the improvement of myself that I have no time to criticize others
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

You know, my favourite quote is the one from Chateaubriand that Tom uses in his signature. It took me a long time to realise that the only measure I have to live with day by day is my judgement on how well I have lived up to my own idea of excellence. That allows me to set achievable goals in both short and long term, to be tolerant of failure so long as I’m honestly trying, and to just climb back on that wagon if I’ve fallen off.

Thanks, Tom smile

Nicky.

I don’t run away from a challenge because I am afraid. Instead, I run toward it because the only way to escape fear is to trample it beneath your feet.- Nadia Comaneci

I am building a fire, and every day I train, I add more fuel. At just the right moment, I light the match. - Mia Hamm

It is one of the strange ironies of this strange life that those who work the hardest, who subject themselves to the strictest discipline, who give up certain pleasurable things in order to achieve a goal, are the happiest men. When you see 20 or 30 men line up for a distance race in some meet, don’t pity them, don’t feel sorry for them. Better envy them instead. - Brutus Hamilton

cool smile Hi all:

It’s Thanksgiving in Canada ... and I looked around and found these ... more on gratitude; have a look at the last one ... there’s a success principle there.

“Gratitude is born in hearts that take time to count up past mercies.” - Charles E. Jefferson (1860 - 1937)

“Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.” - Cicero (106 BC - 43 BC)

“Gratitude is merely the secret hope of further favors.” - Francois de La Rochefoucauld (1613 - 1680) hmmm cool hmm  cool smile

“Gratitude is the most exquisite form of courtesy.” - Jacques Maritain (1882 - 1973)

“There but for the grace of God go [I].” - John Bradford

“It’s a sign of mediocrity when you demonstrate gratitude with moderation.” - Roberto Benigni (1952 - )

I have these all over the place on post-its (favorites are bolded):

**Ability is what you’re capable of doing… Motivation determines what you do… Attitude determines how well you do it.

**All the so-called “secrets of success” will not work unless you do.

**Challenges can be stepping stones or stumbling blocks. It’s just a matter of how you view them.

**Conviction is worthless unless it is converted into conduct. (Thomas Carlyle)

**Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says...I’ll try again tommorrow.

**Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Louis Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo DaVinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.

**"Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “PRESS ON” has solved and will always solve the problems of the human race."- Israel Regardie

**"Both tears and sweat are salty, but they render a different result. Tears will get you sympathy; sweat will get you change."-Jesse Jackson

**The 7 “P’s” - Proper Prior Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance - IrishAngel40

**The leading cause of failure is giving up what we want most for what we want at the moment.

I really love Zig Zigler’s quotes myself as you can see red face but my favorite one is by Helen Keller…

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.
-Helen Keller

Very motivational in its own special way…

cool smile Here’s a couple of new ones I’ve found.

“Idealists, foolish enough to throw caution to the winds, have advanced mankind and have enriched the world.” - Emma Goldman

“If people never did silly things, nothing intelligent would ever get done.” - Ludwig Wittgenstein

“No pessimists ever discovered the secret of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit.” - Helen Keller
