Smoothies and almonds

Since October, I’ve been having a handful of almonds to munch on during the morning has been a great way to avoid a muffin or some other not so great food. Not only can they be munched on raw but adding toasted almonds to a salad gives the salad a great bite, crunch and flovour hit.

The other recipe I’ve been using recently is smoothies for breakfast. I struggle to eat lots for breakfast so 2 mins making a great healthy smoothie that goes down well works wonders. I got this idea from the Abs Diet book.

Smoothie Recipe

Throw a handful or rolled oats into the blender, add some warm water not quite to cover them and allow to soak for 1 min. Add yogurt, protein powder, a bit of juice and a banana (or berries or other fruit) if you like. If you want it cooler then add some ice as well.

Blend for 30secs and drink!!

Very healthy and keeps me going through a workout and the start of the day.

Hey Ben.  Congrats!  You’re the first to find the new Motivation To Move Community and post.  You must have been watching me.  As soon as it went live you jumped right in.  BTW - great idea about the smoothie - I’ve done that myself many times - it’s one of my favorites.

My wife and I make a smoothie that is very filling.  We actually got this one from our fitness club juice bar.  They call it the energizer.

1 Serving of Lite O.J.
1 Serving of fresh strawberries
1 Banana
1 Cup of Ice
2 scoop of Vanilla Whey Protein

Blend and Drink

It is very filling and satisfies the need to snack at night.

Hope this helps,
Stu

Hey
I posted in another thread before I found this one “the Smoothies thread!”

I am a vegetarian, and since starting my new years fitness campaign I have been living on Smoothies (home made)
consisting of anything and everything:
Here my favourite recipe so far:
Yogurt Probitoic drink
Spinach
Beetroot
Oranges
Raspberries
Blackberries
Kiwi fruit
Strawberries
Banana
and Pears

Feel great and energized since having this one every day the spinach works wonders!

Tahini also makes a great twist to make a smoothie really smooth

Does anyone else mix vegetables and fruit when making smoothies?

Or do you make all Vegetable juice smoothies vs all fruit smoothies

Smoothies rule.... as long as you watch out for the sugar.  But since you’re making them yourself you’re OK.

What’s great about a smoothie is you can hide all kinds of things in them and they still taste great!

And yes - Popeye had it right - Spinach works wonders… even in Smoothies.

Yep my spinach is well hidden under all that fruit!

Have been chucking in some dried fruits like Prunes and Apricots recently.
I think I may try rubarb next that might be interesting.

Spinach also seems to have an added benefit for the ladies if anyone is interested I shall let you know.....

Hi there again CARRIE

OK I dont know if this is just a coincidence but since adding loads of spinach to the diet I have found this month it really helped with the painful monthly agony (you know what I mean?!)
I reckon all the iron maybe made a difference, so Spinach is now on my weekly shopping list.
It works for me!

Howdy Y’all from Texas,
I’ve been making the following breakfast drink for over 6 months and it really keeps up my energy for the entire morning. Plenty of calories early in the day, but easy to make and swallow.

1 Cup Soy Milk - 100 calories (I had been using skim cow’s milk, but when I switched to soy I find I have less congestion, I use regular but light works just as well)
2 TBSP Flax Seed - 60 Calories (I’ve become a flax believer, it helps with daily eliminations and adds a nutty flavor)
2 TBSP Flax Oil - 240 Calories (I was skeptical at first on adding FAT to my smoothie, but I’ve found that flax oil is a good thing, I can’t quite add it to a salad and I am taking it on faith that it is necessary to have good fats in our diets.)
1 Scoop Protein Powder - 120 Calories (Currently I am using the brand du jour from Sam’s Club, as long as the calories are under 130 and the protein is around 22g then I am ok. I personally like chocolate)
1/2 Cup Frozen Fruit ~ 50 Calories - (I’ve been using frozen strawberries from Sam’s and Dole had a great mixed frozen fruit Salad mix I got at Sam’s until my last trip)
1 Dash of Cinnamon - 0 Calories

Total ~ 570 Calories, I could reduce that if I used Light Soy and some fruits are lower in calories than others, but the beauty of this shake is that it carries me all the way to lunch time without any hunger pangs or pains. The frozen fruit makes it feel like a milk shake and the chocolate tastes great (once you get used to it).

Let me know what you think of this.

I enjoy drinking 8 - 10 glasses of water every day. It satisfies my thirst like no other beverage and it builds a healthy body as it flushes away fat and impurities.
