Day 10 - a third of the way to a whole month....

Am doing well this evening.  Have been pre-menstrual all day and caved in to chocolate mid afternoon (sigh) but least it wasn’t late at night, so some of it has been burned off!

I’ve just had my protein and veg snack and it definitely makes the usual evening cravings easier to resist.

We’re on a roll, Denise!  Keep it going!

‘night

Day 13......Lucky thirteen. WE sure are on a roll Gecko. I can’t tell you what a problem this night eating has been for me.  How could it be so simple after all the fretting I did over it. I beat myself up constantly with the guilt and shame of repeated failure for too long to admit to but let’s just say it’s been years. One simple tweak to the plan and I’ve taken away the horrible cravings that ruled my life for too long. I’m sure there will be ups and downs like any thing it’s fluid and in motion always needs adjusting and never static. The thing is that now I know I can do it and there is a process that works.

Have a great day tomorrow.....Denise

My weight has been steady for so long - at about 10-15lbs too high - that I find it hard to believe it’ll ever change.  That lack of belief is probably half my problem.  No matter whether I run 3-4 hrs a week or eat a lousy diet, it doesn’t seem to shift.  I don’t eat the lousy diet any more simply because I don’t feel good on it and I have far more energy and do far better workouts on the good diet.  But my weight?  Well, it doesn’t care!

I’m hoping that, like you, I can find that one little tweak that starts the ball rolling.  Drinking more water maybe or stopping the late night snacks.  Who knows?  I won’t find out if this is working until I get back home - and onto the scales - in 12 days time.  I’m looking into buying one of the Omron body fat monitors which looks as if it’s ‘suitcase friendly’ size so when I’m away (which is most of the time between now and next June) I can still keep tabs on things.

So here I am at Day 12 and the post work eating is well under control.

Hey Geko

I don’t know how many calories your are consuming(per day/week), but you may want to track it for a week (i use fitday.com)
then whatever the amount you are consuming every week, try to find a way to reduce it by 250 calories a week (something that you can live with......even with the night eating (which is not good, but it all comes down to calories).

If you do this, and nothing else changes in your exercise routine....than before.....you will lose a 1/2 lb a week.

To lose the 10-15 lbs you want to lose, it’s all a matter of how may calories you consume.....If you DO add more exercise, then you’ll be expending more calories, thus losing more lbs ...... if you do the math....a 1/2 lb a week (250 calories a day, less than your are consuming now, it will take you 4-5 months to get there....

Hopefully that kind of ‘diet’ will be substainable......

Hope this helps.....

It’s important to know that at the end of the day it’s not the medals you remember.  What you remember is the process-- what you learn about yourself by challenging yourself, the experiences you share with other people, the honesty the training demands—those are things nobody can take away from you whether you finish last or you’re an Olympic Champion.

Day 14....that’s two weeks. I started losing weight again. Down 4 pounds in the past 2 weeks. I’m at a number I haven’t hit in years.....yehah!

http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/ for anyone who needs to figure out their BMR

Keep up the great work Gecko. Do you weigh yourself in pounds or stones? I have a friend from Ireland I used to e-mail, and she used stones. Please remind me I always forget, how many pounds in a stone? I found 14 to 1 on google.

A photo I took along the coast in Carmel California.

Peaceful days and good thoughts. Think positive Gecko...see yourself 15 pounds thinner, envision yourself in the clothes you will be wearing and how you will feel. I spend at least 30 to 45 minutes a day in meditation on just what it all will be like. Believe it and you will have it!

All of these photos were taken on my walks. I have to be careful not to stop my workout and start taking too many photos. That’s why I don’t always carry my camera. The temptation is too much to bear…

My friend was in a 14 foot fishing boat a couple of weeks ago right along this part of the beach and saw a 16 foot (small one) great white shark. They feed on these fellows. This is also a hot surfing spot for a crazy few. Can you believe it????

This little guy was posing on the pier.

All found on my walks. Mostly in the deep sand it makes me the strongest.

What great photos!  It must be wonderful to be surrounded by such beauty everyday!  Such an inspiration.

Thankyou for your advice.  We tend to think in ‘stone’ in the UK, there being 14lbs to one stone.  So, at 10stone 10lbs, I am 150lbs.  It’s pretty damn easy to switch from one to the other when you are around the 10 stone mark like me!  grin

I’ve been using Fitday for a while and find it very useful, particularly the reports. It gives you a real sense of what you are doing in the longer term.

Congrats on the weight loss!

Day 15...good mornin’ folks.....hey Tom love the new avatar. Well I did really well yesterday with the food. Had my last little meal at 11:30pm. Just under 200 calories, chicken and broccoli. I was up till 3am. Around 2am I got a craving but instead of my usual pattern of eating 3 bowls of cheerios and a bagel or a piece of meat loaf, or nuts an peanut butter I had less than a half of a bagel with a bit of Laughing Cow lite cheese. It was less than 150 calories and it hit the spot keeping me from going on. I clearly would rather not eat at all after 11:30 but if I had to do it, this was a very healthy compromise. It showed me that I could make healthy choices without blowing my success of the day.

Have you ever done that? You work hard all day with diet and exercise, and do really great, and then it all goes down the tubes at night. Well that’s what I’m working on and it’s a work in progress. Feeling strong about the changes I’ve been able to make in 15 days.

Gecko.....I believe I would prefer to weigh myself in stones; I would be just about 15 stones. That sounds really good to someone who usually thinks in pounds...heheh. I’m working towards 11 stones. To the untrained mind to lose around 4 stones sounds a whole lot better than to lose 60 pounds.

The daily meditation really helps. I’ve been doing it every day for a while now and it’s to the point that the minute I start, I visualize my ideal body image right down to the clothes and how my hair is. I become that person in my mind sitting there cross-legged and smiling through the whole 30 minutes. I imagine everything from jumping out of bed in the morning and slipping on my favorite jeans that I have sitting at the end of my bed so I never forget what I am on the way to being. I envision myself running down the beach rather than trudging. I feel light and happy, no pain in my feet or back. Every day I am that person for 30 minutes or more and I’m to the point that I can’t wait to sit down and start listening to my meditation podcast, which is more like a hypnosis session. It’s called Neurolinguistic Psychology Podcast and the one that works the best for me is “Ideal Body”. It is the perfect adjunct to my MTM podcasts and family.

Have a great day ....Denise

Oh, Hi Tom!  I didn’t realise it was you who’d offered that advice yesterday, not Denise.  Shows how much attention I was paying online!  I tend to do this stuff when I get home from work at 11.30pm… a poor excuse I know!

Fitday shows me I’m eating a pretty consistent 1400-1600 calories a day.  It also says I’m burning around 2800.....  Well, I understand the simple arithmetic of weight loss and I’m not sure this makes sense!  I’ve checked all my settings and everything looks right.  But I don’t believe for a moment that I’m more than 1000 cal per day in deficit.  I talked to a nutritionist friend a year ago and he suggested I might not be eating enough, but I don’t believe for a moment that I should be eating 2800 cal a day!  If anyone can explain this to me I’d be grateful!

grin Glad you like the idea of ‘stone’ Denise!  Believe me though, if you turned round and said ‘oh yeah, I lost two stone’ or something of that nature, that would be pretty impressive.  Small number, big quantity!

Take care

Day 16.....I didn’t so as well as I would like tonight I tangoed with a container of broccoli beef and the beef won. Too much too late and no more chinese food as my last meal of the evening. I learned something at least. I don’t like how I felt when I got up. I vow to never feel like that again if I can help it.

Gecko...so I lost 1 stone so far. It was a big stone though...more like a boulder....heheh. Have a great day girlfriend.

LOL  well that cheered me up no end....  what an image!

You know, in itself broccoli beef sounds quite innocuous.  What was so bad?  Was it loaded with nasties?  Or was it just the quantity you ate?  I guess if it made you feel bad that is an excellent reason not to do it again!  Good lesson.

Well today is Day 13 for me, which makes tomorrow Two Whole Weeks!  <big grin> In only one more week I’ll see if it’s making any difference weight-wise but, to be honest, even if my weight hasn’t changed, I will carry on with this late-night-veggies-and-protein thing.  I feel better when I wake up and I have the energy to go and work out.  It’s a good thing

ciao

Day 17.....Wow, making some permanent changes here. Not even in the mood to eat late. Gecko....Glad to hear you are doing well. Speaking of boulders, I’m chipping away at my second one. I do choose healthy food when I over eat but it’s usually too much of it. I had eaten my alloted amount of beef and broccoli at 11:30pm as planned, then doubled the amount by chomping down another meal of it around 2am.......tsk tsk tsk. I know it’s all about choices. I have to admit, in all of the 17 days I’ve only had 2 nights that were less than my expectations. Not bad when you look at the percentages, and if I were a math aficionado I would throw that number right out there.  Alas it’s late and my brain has partially shut down. Have a great day...I bet your weight will be down when you weigh in. Your typing is somehow a bit thinner, probably caused by lighter fingers tapping on the keyboard.

Think positive, you’re on to bigger and better things!
