I saw a story on this man the other day on the local news. I’ve searched for a link to the story and can’t find it but here’s a brief description:
Bill Heryford conquers globe on Saturday
Bill Heryford, a great friend and an inspiration to runners in Amador and Calaveras Countie, completes his “World Run” 7 a.m. Saturday at Amador High School’s track. He started running when he retired and has logged every mile. On Saturday he will have “run around the world” - 24,911 miles. The public is invited to come celebrate.
He started running when he retired. He ran 5 miles a day on his local track (got out there at 4:30 in the morning). He’s tracked his miles, including times for each of the miles he ran. When he was a few years into the process, a friend asked him what his goal was, and he really didn’t know. The friend suggested he “run around the world”. He had a globe that he tracked his process on.
The journey took him 18 years, and he’s now 78. The news showed the group of runners he had accompaning him on his last mile to get to his goal.
He was quoted on the news program that he may “sleep in until 5:30 or 6 am now”.
Too cool!
It was inspiring to me!
